I saw a post on Facebook I think about someone who insisted that the moon and the sun was the same thing. Sun during the day and moon at night because they’d never seen the moon during the day time.
I saw the moon this morning about 8am, and it was in the west sky and the sun was in the east.
Just when you think you’ve found the bottom of the idiot hole, someone decides to start digging.
Nope. There are science classes that often tie in astronomy or astronomical phenomena, but astronomy in and of itself isn't a requirement in many places.
This is really stupid on all parties involved. I don’t think that image is correct. The earth would have a gradient of day to night which this doesn’t have. However all the dumbasses in the comments are still stupid.
Alright so I in no way am trying to insult your intelligence or any of the people commenting to you, but I gotta say that the moon in no way affects night time, night is caused by the Earth facing away from the sun, and yes there's a gradiant in that situation but it's not super noticable from space.
I meant when you look at the moon being partially illuminated, you don’t really see a gradient. I didn’t mean to imply that the moon was casting a shadow.
The part where they said “I wonder what it’d be like to live on the border” really amazed me. Do they not realize that they also experience both day and night?
I fear for humanity, it's a deep palpable fear that shivers me to my very core. A fear that renders my soul nearly hopeless and my spirit nearly broken. The last vestiges of hope that I feverishly cling to is that by their own hands and their own shortcomings they render themselves rare and endangered and alas become extinct due to their unwillingness or inability to think and/or act above a kindergarten level.

Yep, that was part of my "almost everywhere" caveat about day / night changes upthread. Suffice it to say that we don't have populations as large as the chunk of Europe shown living above the Arctic Circle.

this is the worst photoshop i’ve ever seen. if you’re going to fake the comments, at least make it good. On facebook (i’m pretty sure that’s where this screenshot is from, but i could be wrong), they don’t let the words go on top of the comment details (when it was posted, etc) like the first comment on the top left corner. It Clearly the font doesn’t fit the screenshot. the actual comments are too clear compared to the shit quality of the actual post/ actual comment section. At least try to make a fake post seem real.

I think the gradient might just be obscured by the scale. You can see some gradient in the image, and that gradient would cover hundreds of miles.
