People ask me why I stay up late and this is what I tell them. I work at home without a set schedule and I'm usually up from 10-3am. I love going to the gym, going grocery shopping, and doing my chores around midnight. The world is too loud. When I lived in the country I had a more normal schedule because it's much quieter during the day.

Before morning there are birds. They start chirping. I dunno. Their presence made me feel perverse. I worked night shift for three years. There is something about being notched behind the normal world. There's a sweet spot between 12-4 one can occupy that is like what you describe, but transgressing it just feels weird.

I just started a new job working on news productions. I'm working the morning shifts 4 days a week, and my sleep schedule has evolved so that I sleep in the afternoon and and up all night until I go in at 4 or 5 am. It's been taxing on my body to get used to, but for the reasons you described it's nice to have a reason to be up during those hours.

That's why I loved the night when I was a kid. I'd walk out of the house because nobody was awake to ask where I was going. I could walk around or sit by the river or go do whatever. I'm not much of a night person, so this is exactly why I get up super early some days -- only problem is that getting up early allows for less spontaneity than deciding to stay up late.

This is why I stayed out late in high school. Wait for my dad to go to bed, then grab a car and go meet up with some friends who are all thinking the same way. The only people out at the time were other kids, and a few cops.

My favourite thing when I finish up a bar shift at 3am is to sit on my roof with a bottle of wine for a couple hours just with my own thoughts or some music. It's a new thing I've been doing but it's super relaxing and helps me sleep.

One of the few awesome perks of insomnia. I am a dad of a seven year old and a three year old. This is exactly why no matter how long I stay up my brain wakes me up at four thirty every day. Four thirty to six thirty is that time you describe for me every day.

I've always been a night owl. When I was a teenager in the summer time, I'd read all night. Wait for my parents to go to sleep, and sit outside and read with a blanket. The one thing I miss about condo living. Something relaxing about the cool crisp air that time of day. I love being in the mountains and getting up early.

As far as preference is concerned, I'm a night owl (have been most of my teenage years). Due to lack of sleep though, I started to feel tired, so I went back to what would be considered a "normal" sleep schedule. That said, when I feel rested, I like to just have a white night. Not only is it so quiet and peaceful, but it's downright beautiful to see the sun come up in the early hours of the day. Also, yes, nobody expects anything from me. That times 1000.

As someone who has kids 13, 9, and 5 who become a raging scream tornado and pepper me with 47,000 questions from 6:45 a.m. to 7:50 when it's time for school, I enjoy getting up at 4-4:30 and enjoying the tranquility.
