Electron is a stripped down version of Chromium (which is basically Chrome with less Google branding and some plug-ins) that people can use to write desktop apps that are basically websites running on the user's machine. It's very RAM intensive, and is somewhat frowned upon because it's inefficient and uses JavaScript.

The answer is probably that the Java program wouldn't run in a browser, while the other do and that's saving time.

I just now am browsing Reddit using Chrome with a total of 10 tabs open. Besides, I also have Skype, Plex, HexChat, & the remaining background stuff open. All in all, I'm currently at 9,4 GB RAM. Just a couple of years ago I was glad when I could allocate 3 GB RAM to Minecraft, now I allocate 3 GB RAM for my browser alone. Oh, how the times have changed...

I wanted to be a programmer but failed tf out of my 101 class. I understand most of the jokes here because they’re usually just dumb long or something but I usually just float around here. I’ve been subbed since I made this account last year

Since this one is serious, I'll keep it as a separate comment. I "failed" my high school CS class and retook it. Going through the boring stuff I'd seen before gave me more time to experiment and play around with new things through class. Somewhere along that, something clicked and I was able to think through making those programs that I couldn't think through before. After the bigger phase of doing stupid, but cool things with the Windows API (which never completely ended), I decided improving my C++ was a fair priority. A lot of self-study and keeping up to date later, programming is both a job and a hobby.

While I can't say how things would have turned out had I not "failed" that course, a case can be made that the failure was beneficial to me. If you have your own reason for learning, the extra time you put in out of interest really adds up.
