The way they saw it Christianity was too soft and failed to keep degeneracy at bay ... but Islam isn't soft and will put the degenerates in their place.

He undeniably saw Arabs and other primarily Islamic peoples as inferior, but his views on Islam as a religion were more positive. He saw Islam as a religion which promoted heroism and a warrior culture, as opposed to Christianity.

I'm not an expert on North African history but I'm quite certain that genetically these people are still mostly the same as when Carthage ruled the region. On conquest usually the 1% elite is replaced and the peasants slowly adopt a new culture.
North Africa saw a lot of cultural influxes throughout its history. During late antiquity Germanic kingdoms from migrating Vandal tribes were formed in modern Libyia, Tunisia, and Algeria. This is on top of centuries of Romanization/colonization all of which occurred prior to Arab conquests/migration. Though you're probably right in that most people retained traditional North African genes, it has certainly been a melting pot like a lot of Mediterranean peoples.

Border disputes usually happen because some territory is in country A while the inhabitants are ethnically from country B. Country B then claims the area.
Granted, they sometimes happen if countries lay claim on an area their people no longer inhabit because that area bears a historical significance. Not nearly as common, though. One example is probably Mount Ararat between Armenia and Turkey and it hasn’t escalated into a bigger conflict.

I mean you put it in quotes, but really, it isn't restorative justice if it's retributive in nature and you can tell based on the language that people are using. Is it about correcting the wrongs of the past, and finding a path that everyone can move forward together with? Or is it about punishing people for doing something bad? If it's the latter, it's not restorative justice.
I believe it is possible for restorative justice to work its course after such horrible things as genocide, colonization, enslavement, etc., though. The people of Europe, including Jewish people, largely forgive the people of Germany for WWII, and Germany did work hard to make amends after the war. Reparations were paid, attitudes changed, apologies were made. Europeans in countries terrorized by Nazi Germany now consider Germany as part of Europe just the same, as an ally.
Germany still pays reparations as cash payments to Israel as it has been doing for 60 years, and I don't think it'll end any time soon. (in 2009 they even asked for more to be paid) When should they stop paying? Originally they (Israel) calculated that 1.5 billion (14 billion in today's money) was what was owed (calculating lost property cost and resettling the displaced population etc.). 60 years later and Germany has payed them almost 90 billion dollars and is still writing checks.

Well, let's go back to Zimbabwe for a second. The government of Rhodesia occupied land and gave it to white colonizers. Now let's pretend that none of the people who directly suffered because of that are still around, and none of the people who directly stole the land are still around either. It's in the past, but it's still a wrong that was committed that dramatically affected the society and ensures poor outcomes for black people even in the case where a racist, authoritarian government is replaced by a more egalitarian government without any measures to make up for the past.
There is a need to correct the wrongs of the past and that doesn't necessarily mean taking all of the land from the white Zimbabwean descendants of colonizers, but redistributing things in such a way that society can move forward with justice, without unduly punishing people who had very little to do with the past.
Building off the other person's reply to your comment, honestly, "restorative justice" is potentially a very toxic thing, especially when accounting for historical wrongs that have no survivors on either side, meaning you would basically be shifting the burden of historical guilt on innocent people who happened to be tangentially related. One individual or group that victimized another individual or group then helping to make sure that everyone can thrive in the future. The focus is on apology and making up the difference and definitely not on punitive actions.

An example that is currently a problem is favoring black students over white students through affirmative action. The point I'm making is that either eventually or even now, this idea of reparations either will be or already is obsolete and will do more harm than good. Better to get back to striving towards actual egalitarian values rather than trying to simply move the favoring of one group to instead favor another. No one group should be favored. That's the goal, and restorative justice is only a distraction (and in the worst case, a self inflicted roadblock) towards that goal.

An example that is currently a problem is favoring black students over white students through affirmative action. While to some this seems like a small recompense for past wrongdoings, what it has ended up being is a legislated bias towards one race over another when we most likely don't need it anymore.
Black people are still disadvantaged, particularly economically. It may not be in the letter of the law anymore, but black communities are still often underfunded, lacking good schools, clean air and water, etc. which leads to intergenerational disadvantages because children grow up in these conditions and then struggle to access higher education and well-paying jobs.
Even if you don't accept that, it should be clear that one of the largest groups of people who get to skip merit-based university admissions (and therefore get a potentially undeserved leg up in the economy) are legacy admissions; people who had family members who went to the same school. White people are overrepresented in legacy admissions just as white people are overrepresented in just about any preexisting advantaged group.
Now you might bring up economic disparities and the like, but legislating a bias off of purely racial lines is NOT the way to fix that.
How should you fix it? We're talking about correcting for a historically legislated bias and presently socially enforced bias that is along racial lines. Are you suggesting, for example, that we should say that people who have been long-term residents of neighborhoods with X% below national average in some statistic should receive the affirmative action instead, just so that we can avoid the impression of 'giving things to black people'?
I don't think that would be all that bad necessarily, but it is attacking something that is very clearly and directly based on race with something that is indirect, and I don't know that there's a good reason to do that.

I think this is exactly the scenario where you don't try to find "balance" between these things, because the goal of "restorative justice" is a harmful one to pursue in the first place. It will never end, because once you finally tip the balance the other way, everyone else will ask for "reparations".

Well look at that! You came up with a MUCH better alternative, because it gets to the root of the problem for ALL poor people: they can't afford higher education, and thus can't escape their situation, and need some assistance to get them out of the chain. No matter what race, that is what the goal should be, to make poorer kids able to escape their situation, get better jobs, and hopefully give back to the community just enough so that the next time around, it becomes easier and easier. Of course, that's very idealistic, but current affirmative action isn't going to help as much.

Well honestly, I don't even know where I stand in terms of a compass test. I'm pretty fluid politically depending on the situation. Like here, I'm taking a more libertarian right stance, but if we were talking about worker rights, I'd be libertarian left. While with government assistance, I'd take a more authoritarian left position. Really the only quadrant I never get along with on pretty much any issue is authoritarian right. True, it's something that's delicate and requires constant communication. I would hope that tensions relieve eventually and I think history has shown that they generally do. Israel maybe abuses WWII every so often to get extra stuff from Germany, but overall there's not a lot of hostility there. Japan is an example of a country that has been irresponsible in committing to restorative justice since they have been shaky at best about acknowledging the past, but they have paid reparations and they do generally keep relatively friendly relations with China and South Korea, aside from the occasional skirmishes that tend to be about unrelated underlying issues anyway. Japan is one of only a few countries that gets visa-free access to China (for 7 days only, but it's still something) - so that tells you how much they cooperate in reality.

I totally agree with that and at the same time I think it's important to address historical inequalities for what they are, even if only because it makes the historically wronged party feel that they have been compensated, but also because it targets the source of the problem a lot more clearly.
Obviously I'm all for dissolving class disparities no matter what the situation, though. I wouldn't be a very good leftist otherwise!

I think you're overanalyzing what was said in that question. It's obviously racist and bringing up those two choices in your first sentence makes no sense because the sentence is only referring to one: "Black people should hold power because X is a black majority country".
The very structure of the sentence has many red flags. The word "should", the "because they are a black majority country", the combination of the two; it's pretty darn obvious.
If the idea of statistics simply dictating that more black people will be in power based on population figures, then the sentence that would best get that across is "Black people will most likely be the majority in power because X is a black majority country", which is decidedly not racist.

I think personhood should be broadly defined as anything whose own thoughts or emotions are in some way detectable. This would of course include most animals, and it excludes some humans (specifically, those who are braindead with no chance of recovery, and those who don't have brains yet), but I think it's the only definition that takes into account the thoughts and feelings of creatures that, while they can't express their thoughts and feelings verbally, have complex thoughts and feelings nonetheless.
Sounds to me like our main difference is ability to communicate so effectively combined with the dexterity of our limbs and fingers. It's entirely possible that some animals could be close to as intelligent as us, but since they can't communicate very well, they're confined to ideas they can think of on their own, and can't start a little bit more knowledgeable than the ones before them. And even if they could think of a concept, they couldn't physically manifest it since their physiology prevents it. Chances are most animals are less intelligent than us, but take dolphins for example. They're quite intelligent, and possibly even able to communicate effectively, but they can't do much with either of those besides swim around and tell other dolphins where food is or how to get high on pufferfish venom

He had quite a positive view of Iran since he saw them as also belonging to the aryan people (though slightly less "clean" due to arab mixing, Iranians before that were a different ethnic group). Iran means "land of the aryans". Iranians were declared immune to the Nuremberg laws.
The Nazis actually had radio broadcasts in the middle east where they promoted antisemitism. The middle east wasn't super tolerant of jews before that but it was more the second class citizen culture where jews, christians and other beliefs were obviously wrong and had to pay a tax but weren't open to constant persecution.
Nazi influence definitely did its part in stoking antisemitism and the establishment of Israel by the allied forces only furthered and confirmed those views in the eyes of many middle easterners.

This is a common fake 'fact', sexuality in a modern sense wasn't a concept in the pre-christian period. It's incorrect to refer to the Greeks as 'gay' or 'straight', rather they pursued anyone who they had an interest in regardless of sex (usually someone young, such as an adolescent). There were laws about sleeping with freemen, but that was more a class thing.
Greece and Rome have a lot to admire. The schools of Philosophy they created, the technical achievements in infrastructure and engineering, their tactics in warfare ETC. Well to be fair, before Islamisfication of certain regions there was a kind of greater Mediterranean culture. There were trade routes around that sea that stretched back to times immemorial.
Islamic Kingdoms threw a wrench in that when it took control over most of the near east, Spain, and eventually the balkans. They would not trade with Christian Europe, and blocked many of the trade routes to China (that’s why Columbus, Cabot, Cartier etc. went West, the silk road was dangerous, and the Muslims wouldn’t let them through without a massive fee).
The whole Christian/Muslim divide is totally manmade and was just a way to justify holy wars whether it was the Islamic conquests of Spain, the Balkans, and almost Tours or the Christian conquests of Acre and Jerusalem. There has obviously been a lot of arabisation over the last millennium. But a nation is its attitudes, tendencies, way of viewing the world, and identity, and changing your religion or even your language doesn’t completely change these things.

the whole "irish and italians weren't always white" is a complete myth made to try and deconstruct whiteness. (whiteness as a concept is pretty recent and kind of an American construct, but it's still perfectly valid as a homonym for european, the same way we call africans blacks) it was based on what amounts to political satire cartoons calling them barbaric and comparing them to 'negroes', but nobody would actually ever look at an irishman and an african slave and be like "wow I can't tell the difference!!" i think you'll notice that, when talking heads are doing something like, say, discussing someone who did something unscrupulous they have NO problem identifying a white man as white, however, when it comes to someone arguing in favor of white identity or an explicitly pro-white sentiment, suddenly the waters are so muddy. they'll say, "what is white? how do you determine what is white? so Indians are white because they're caucasian right??" see the interview of jared taylor by fareed zakariah for this, he literally pilpuls for a half hour just trying to stir the waters on a matter that, in any other context, he would have zero issues navigating quickly and simply. I believe it was CBS who did another unaired interview of him, and if you watch the unedited footage that Jared literally had to record himself to stop them from completely owning and crafting their own narrative, the interviewer does the same thing where she gishgallops over and around all about how suddenly, she forgot what a white person looks like and how maybe white people never existed and, oh, on this technicality, indians could maybe possibly be considered white even though in any other context the conversation wouldn't happen.
The entire line of thought is designed to divide and waste time with inconsequential nonsense. it's like saying communism is immoral because "how would you ever implement it?" the subject is not the implementation of it, the subject is of whether or not it's a moral and/or effective system of governance, and based on that answer, THEN the implementation of it can be discussed.

What? 90% of Natives were exterminated in the first decade after colonization and after that they were greatly outnumbered by the colonists. From those 10% almost all lived in the woods for a very long time, before moving closer to the cities.
Only a small percentage of White Americans (we are talking about US, right?) have any Native ancestry.
By the way, don't believe those Ancestry.org or 24andMe results. They are known for intentionally adding 1-3% of fake African or Native heritage to every pure White, in order "own" the racists. Instead they gave free Nword passes.

It is sad then, that you are so naive. Whiteness doesn't exist necessarily in skin, hair, or eye colour. There is something more... fundamental to it, something spiritual. The man I linked above "checks" all of the boxes, but anyone could tell he is not white, and you can tell this from the way that his face is constructed. There is something vaguely asiatic about his features. But whatever, identifying races and ethnicities is a skill, something you can train with practise.

I'm not an expert on North African history but I'm quite certain that genetically these people are still mostly the same as when Carthage ruled the region. On conquest usually the 1% elite is replaced and the peasants slowly adopt a new culture.

North Africa saw a lot of cultural influxes throughout its history. During late antiquity Germanic kingdoms from migrating Vandal tribes were formed in modern Libyia, Tunisia, and Algeria. This is on top of centuries of Romanization/colonization all of which occurred prior to Arab conquests/migration. Though you're probably right in that most people retained traditional North African genes, it has certainly been a melting pot like a lot of Mediterranean peoples.

Does no one on this sub understand how the political compass actually works? The left/right axis of the compass has nothing to do with racism. It has to do with economics, far right being laissez-faire capitalist the far left being communist or some other kind of planned economy. Racism is on a separate cultural axis that is not shown on the compass, that’s her ally expressed as “Traditionalist vs Progressive”. It’s kinda a broad term. Fascism tends to describe a militaristic dictatorial leadership and regimentation of society. They also tend to believe significantly in hierarchy, none of these are compatible with anarchism. The “racist” part of fascism is the nationalism. Which is the part that is somewhat compatible with anarchism if you view nationalism as more of an ethnic ideal as oppose to a national identity.

There is no evidence to suggest you cannot have an anarchist society without people forming into ethnic groups. I mean racism is inherently hierarchical. Historically Auth Right or Authoritarian ideologies in general have been nationalistic or racist. That’s just because they rely so much on hierarchy and a strong sense of identity. Left or right. The reason right tends to be more racist is because, like I said, the left tends to focus on egalitarianism which is suppose to mean that, no matter the race, all are treated equally.

Your examples are actually proving the point of people who claim that.
If every nationality had their own country filled with their own peoples, you would avoid a lot, and I mean A LOT of bloodshed. That was actually the policy taken after WW1, but it was extremely poorly executed and therefore failed.
The examples that you’ve provided are all coming from multicultural countries that oppose that nationalist narrative.

Israelis and Palestinians both want Jerusalem among other things. Kurds are split between at least 4 separate countries now, good luck trying to negotiate that.

Border disputes usually happen because some territory is in country A while the inhabitants are ethnically from country B. Country B then claims the area.
Granted, they sometimes happen if countries lay claim on an area their people no longer inhabit because that area bears a historical significance. Not nearly as common, though. One example is probably Mount Ararat between Armenia and Turkey and it hasn’t escalated into a bigger conflict.
As for your point about Israelis and Palestinians - they do, but you’re not targetting that narrative itself with your arguments. You’re trying to disprove the functionality of that idea by pointing out that it’s difficult to make it happen, which it is, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to achieve it and it doesn’t invalidate it whatsoever. As a matter of fact, the more homogeneous society the smaller the chance of a conflict happening is.
But that literally is the reason why some people want a country for every nationality.

Racists don't necessarily have to believe that some races are inherently better than others, they can also believe that some deserve to have power over others because of their race.
Just as sexists don't have to believe that men are inherently better, they might believe that men should be in charge, and they would still be sexist.
If you believe that, I'm assuming, white people should be in charge in your own country because yours is a "white" country, that's still a racist power structure and therefore a racist belief.

Black people should hold power, or only black people should hold power? That's the key distinction. As long as the white people living in Zimbabwe get (proportional) representation, that's not racist. Now if Zimbabwe is still hostile toward white people who've grown up there and call Zimbabwe home, that's a new racist power structure. But it's not racist to assert that a racist power structure should be turned around to represent and make reparations for people who have been colonized and had their land stripped from them in the past.

I mean you put it in quotes, but really, it isn't restorative justice if it's retributive in nature and you can tell based on the language that people are using. Is it about correcting the wrongs of the past, and finding a path that everyone can move forward together with? Or is it about punishing people for doing something bad? If it's the latter, it's not restorative justice.
I believe it is possible for restorative justice to work its course after such horrible things as genocide, colonization, enslavement, etc., though. The people of Europe, including Jewish people, largely forgive the people of Germany for WWII, and Germany did work hard to make amends after the war. Reparations were paid, attitudes changed, apologies were made. Europeans in countries terrorized by Nazi Germany now consider Germany as part of Europe just the same, as an ally.

Germany still pays reparations as cash payments to Israel as it has been doing for 60 years, and I don't think it'll end any time soon. (in 2009 they even asked for more to be paid) When should they stop paying? Originally they (Israel) calculated that 1.5 billion (14 billion in today's money) was what was owed (calculating lost property cost and resettling the displaced population etc.). 60 years later and Germany has payed them almost 90 billion dollars and is still writing checks.
and what restorative justice could be done in the case of Colonialism and Enslavement? there are no surviving victims of these events so what can be "restored"?

Well, let's go back to Zimbabwe for a second. The government of Rhodesia occupied land and gave it to white colonizers. Now let's pretend that none of the people who directly suffered because of that are still around, and none of the people who directly stole the land are still around either. It's in the past, but it's still a wrong that was committed that dramatically affected the society and ensures poor outcomes for black people even in the case where a racist, authoritarian government is replaced by a more egalitarian government without any measures to make up for the past.
There is a need to correct the wrongs of the past and that doesn't necessarily mean taking all of the land from the white Zimbabwean descendants of colonizers, but redistributing things in such a way that society can move forward with justice, without unduly punishing people who had very little to do with the past.

Building off the other person's reply to your comment, honestly, "restorative justice" is potentially a very toxic thing, especially when accounting for historical wrongs that have no survivors on either side, meaning you would basically be shifting the burden of historical guilt on innocent people who happened to be tangentially related. Conversely, you'll be paying reparations to people who don't deserve them in the current time. Overall it's a stupid idea.
Why don't we deal with what is actually happening NOW, in the present, rather than trying to get some nebulous sense of justice from the many wrongdoings of dead ancestors for the suffering of still dead ancestors? Their time has past. Let us deal with the here and now and look to the future.

Responsibility is a complicated thing. Individuals may no longer have any responsibility for what happened in the past if they weren't ever involved in it, but the society still does. The idea of restorative justice, in principle, is not what you describe, I think. The point is to find a solution for everyone to move on and make up for the wrongs of the past by making a better future. One individual or group that victimized another individual or group then helping to make sure that everyone can thrive in the future. The focus is on apology and making up the difference and definitely not on punitive actions.

But what exactly is the "society" supposed to pay up with? Because no matter what you do, it's going to go down to the individual level. Are you talking about legislation? Cause I think the idea of having some legislation that gives out "reparations" for some time in the future is not a great plan, because now you have to wonder exactly how long it's going to be in effect.
An example that is currently a problem is favoring black students over white students through affirmative action. While to some this seems like a small recompense for past wrongdoings, what it has ended up being is a legislated bias towards one race over another when we most likely don't need it anymore.
Now you might bring up economic disparities and the like, but legislating a bias off of purely racial lines is NOT the way to fix that.
The point I'm making is that either eventually or even now, this idea of reparations either will be or already is obsolete and will do more harm than good. Better to get back to striving towards actual egalitarian values rather than trying to simply move the favoring of one group to instead favor another. No one group should be favored. That's the goal, and restorative justice is only a distraction (and in the worst case, a self inflicted roadblock) towards that goal.
But why tho? I feel like all it's going to do is cause assumptions.

It's all very complicated, naturally, because we're talking about relationships between human beings both at an individual level and also at a political level. It's hard to say what's right and where the balance falls. I don't think I can offer any particular solution to that problem other than to suggest that these things are much more likely to work out favorably to both parties with constant, level-headed communication.
Black people are still disadvantaged, particularly economically. It may not be in the letter of the law anymore, but black communities are still often underfunded, lacking good schools, clean air and water, etc. which leads to intergenerational disadvantages because children grow up in these conditions and then struggle to access higher education and well-paying jobs.
Even if you don't accept that, it should be clear that one of the largest groups of people who get to skip merit-based university admissions (and therefore get a potentially undeserved leg up in the economy) are legacy admissions; people who had family members who went to the same school. White people are overrepresented in legacy admissions just as white people are overrepresented in just about any preexisting advantaged group.
How should you fix it? We're talking about correcting for a historically legislated bias and presently socially enforced bias that is along racial lines. Are you suggesting, for example, that we should say that people who have been long-term residents of neighborhoods with X% below national average in some statistic should receive the affirmative action instead, just so that we can avoid the impression of 'giving things to black people'?
I don't think that would be all that bad necessarily, but it is attacking something that is very clearly and directly based on race with something that is indirect, and I don't know that there's a good reason to do that.
It's just kind of the fun of this sub. It also helps to have some idea of what points I should focus on to make the biggest impact.

I think this is exactly the scenario where you don't try to find "balance" between these things, because the goal of "restorative justice" is a harmful one to pursue in the first place. It will never end, because once you finally tip the balance the other way, everyone else will ask for "reparations".
I am aware of all of this, and it's definitely a problem. A problem that should be fixed based not on racial lines, but financial ones. You know? The thing that ACTUALLY matters.
But here's the thing. I am half black and half white, and I've seen economic disparity between the two halves of my family. The surprising thing to most people is that... my black half of the family is WAY better off than my white half. I will admit it has made me disillusioned to what seems to be the more common "poor black, richer white" that happens in America at least, but if there's one thing it's taught me, it's that, black or white, we are all truly measured by the wealth we have (whether that's a good or bad thing is irrelevant here).
As such, gallivanting the races of the people who are struggling has always, to me, seemed like a non-sequitur and completely misses the point, because through racial legislation, all it would do for my families is make the economic disparity between them GROW, not shrink; my black side would get more money because they happened to be born black, while my white side of the family would get nothing because they happened to be born white. Doesn't seem very fair to me.
Well look at that! You came up with a MUCH better alternative, because it gets to the root of the problem for ALL poor people: they can't afford higher education, and thus can't escape their situation, and need some assistance to get them out of the chain. No matter what race, that is what the goal should be, to make poorer kids able to escape their situation, get better jobs, and hopefully give back to the community just enough so that the next time around, it becomes easier and easier. Of course, that's very idealistic, but current affirmative action isn't going to help as much.
Well honestly, I don't even know where I stand in terms of a compass test. I'm pretty fluid politically depending on the situation. Like here, I'm taking a more libertarian right stance, but if we were talking about worker rights, I'd be libertarian left. While with government assistance, I'd take a more authoritarian left position. Really the only quadrant I never get along with on pretty much any issue is authoritarian right. So I guess I'm "everything but auth right".

True, it's something that's delicate and requires constant communication. I would hope that tensions relieve eventually and I think history has shown that they generally do. Israel maybe abuses WWII every so often to get extra stuff from Germany, but overall there's not a lot of hostility there. Japan is an example of a country that has been irresponsible in committing to restorative justice since they have been shaky at best about acknowledging the past, but they have paid reparations and they do generally keep relatively friendly relations with China and South Korea, aside from the occasional skirmishes that tend to be about unrelated underlying issues anyway. Japan is one of only a few countries that gets visa-free access to China (for 7 days only, but it's still something) - so that tells you how much they cooperate in reality.
What do you see the alternative as? Refuse to take any responsibility for the past, even if that means ongoing hostilities pretty much forever?
I totally agree with that and at the same time I think it's important to address historical inequalities for what they are, even if only because it makes the historically wronged party feel that they have been compensated, but also because it targets the source of the problem a lot more clearly.
Obviously I'm all for dissolving class disparities no matter what the situation, though. I wouldn't be a very good leftist otherwise!
Your situation is different from many and I understand that it would feel unfair to you. But correcting issues in society is not only about you - sometimes it will directly benefit you, and sometimes it will only benefit you indirectly.
I'm not against also doing that - I suggested it as an alternative because it makes a lot of sense. But I don't think it should be used as an alternative, but in addition. I think it's still important to have programs that are much more targeted for reasons I mentioned already - it helps heal the past.
I understand. I actually don't really believe in the compass at all; I think it's flawed and pushes people to identify more strongly with a quadrant when their politics are more varied than that. The individual points of policy are more important than the sum of all of it.
I sympathize the most with other people who would fall into libleft, so I chose that.

I think you're overanalyzing what was said in that question. It's obviously racist and bringing up those two choices in your first sentence makes no sense because the sentence is only referring to one: "Black people should hold power because X is a black majority country".
The very structure of the sentence has many red flags. The word "should", the "because they are a black majority country", the combination of the two; it's pretty darn obvious.
If the idea of statistics simply dictating that more black people will be in power based on population figures, then the sentence that would best get that across is "Black people will most likely be the majority in power because X is a black majority country", which is decidedly not racist.

Hm, I think it would need more context, personally; I disagree.
I might not be winning any arguments here depending on how you feel about it but it's sort of like "black lives matter" - nobody is saying that only black lives matter; it's merely an assertion that black lives also matter, without saying anything about any other kind of lives. Similarly I feel that you can say "black people should have power in a majority black country" without having to add qualifiers, and it really would depend on the context.
Also, to say "black people will most likely be the majority in power" is not good enough if you're trying to make an assertion about what ought to be the case rather than an observation. "Black people should have the majority of power in a black majority country" or even "should not have the minority of power" would be much better.

No for the most part Sub Saharan Africa has always been mostly stateless due to a myriad of factors, the three main ones being disease and difficulty farming and storing food.
African 'countries' werent a thing in the Sub Sahara, that's part of why Europeans drawing national lines was so harmful; it politically intertwined distinct and often antagonistic tribes.
Sub Saharan tribe based existence is what we would call 'non functional by western standards' before, during and after colonisation.

Slavery was thought to be an abolished institution by the early 1800s, because it was simply not profitable. The Founding Fathers thought that the free market would eventually filter out slavery, so they didn't write in the Constitution that slaves had the right to freedom due to fears of a disloyal South. The cost of keeping slaves, even when treating them like literal animals, couldn't turn a profit with low amounts of cash cops they'd yield. That all changed when the cotton gin was invented, and so slave owners could now make a bunch of cotton in a year, which caused alot of wealth. But a lot of early abolitionists would argue that slavery was impractical and immoral, even when they cotton gin was invented, they argued that the South didn't need slavery as people could make sufficient cotton on their own. Also keep in mind that alot of American progressives and liberals used to be Libright, since the world was more cultural right back then.

Isn't this position essentially just saying "humans are different from animals because humans have souls, and animals don't have souls because they aren't human?" That makes it just as flawed as the tautology you pointed out before it.
I think personhood should be broadly defined as anything whose own thoughts or emotions are in some way detectable. This would of course include most animals, and it excludes some humans (specifically, those who are braindead with no chance of recovery, and those who don't have brains yet), but I think it's the only definition that takes into account the thoughts and feelings of creatures that, while they can't express their thoughts and feelings verbally, have complex thoughts and feelings nonetheless.

Sounds to me like our main difference is ability to communicate so effectively combined with the dexterity of our limbs and fingers. It's entirely possible that some animals could be close to as intelligent as us, but since they can't communicate very well, they're confined to ideas they can think of on their own, and can't start a little bit more knowledgeable than the ones before them. And even if they could think of a concept, they couldn't physically manifest it since their physiology prevents it. Chances are most animals are less intelligent than us, but take dolphins for example. They're quite intelligent, and possibly even able to communicate effectively, but they can't do much with either of those besides swim around and tell other dolphins where food is or how to get high on pufferfish venom
No, the question wouldn't be are they fully human but are they fully a person? They're absolutely still human. If you say that being sentient is the bar to being a person, then the vast majority of animals, including humans (severely handicapped too), fall into that category. Let go of the idea of human supremacy and you'll see that that's ok, just like it's ok that some unknown species of animal could be more intelligent and/or better at communicating than us.

Of course you can do that if you like, I certainly can't stop you from believing whatever you like.
But it's definitely something I'd think on for some time if it was me. If you didn't build a belief from reason or upon other beliefs whose roots you can also trace back through reason, where did it come from? Where and when did you get it? Why do you still have it after this realisation, and would it be possible to imagine holding a different, contrary belief for exactly the same reasons?
