Do you have a picture of the aunt by chance ? Face, body, build, whatever.

Either OP or his mom are messing with us, or that's one of the best ghost photos out there.

Assuming the photo is real and the person on it is dead, then you have something that might be of immense spiritual and theological value. The capacity for a deceased person to appear with such a defined human form near your mother might indicate a lot of things we don't know about the paranormal, for example why some photos (supposedly real too) or sightings of ghosts look like they are no longer human and other ones like this look like they are still alive.

Even though we lack proper scientific research methods, someone interested in this could try to see how possible communicating with your aunt is, or what other non natural stuff like the string can happen.

Personally if I was you and your mom I would pray (doesn't matter ur religion) for her soul to rest in peace and hope she may be better wherever she may be

I've scrolled these comments pretty far and I haven't seen anyone mention that perhaps this is a real person in your mother's house. It's as legitimate a theory as any, and if true, important to take a few security measures. Because that IS a very clear figure, and I believe you that there is a figure, but I also just want to make sure your mom is safe.

I do not know if OP is being honest about the person in this photo being deceased, but the aunt she posted in the comments and the person in the OP photograph are the same person.

the string alone standing up by itself is odd enough… if the person in back really is a ghost, you got the best photo of one in the history of ever.

This makes me wish my mom would appear to me. Her twin brother who died suddenly in 1998 visited me in a dream about a month before my mom died suddenly. It was a lucid dream where I was a child again at my grandmother's house where my uncle lived due to his severe epilepsy. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw him and asked him, "What are you doing here?!? You died a long time ago!" He looked at me and said, "I'm just checking in to make sure you're okay and going to be okay with what's to come." I didn't understand it, so I googled furiously the next day about "visitation dreams." I didn't understand what it meant until my mom died suddenly weeks later.

My uncle was warning me of hardship to come. When my mom died, I suffered PTSD dreams for years reliving the night of her death and fighting for her life with CPR and EMS/hospital defibrillator stuff. Some dreams, I would be in the house where it happened and my mom would be alive and healthy. My lucid dreaming ability made me say, "Mom! Don't go anywhere!!! This is a dream and you're dead in real life. Please stay and* spend time with me!" My mom would start crying and run away most of the time. I would go searching for her in the house and call out to her, but she wouldn't reappear.

I made sure she was buried with her twin bro / my godfather. Losing both of them has broken my heart, but my dreams definitely give me some weird hope that they are together again somewhere in afterlife.

The way the figure is framed checks out and is how someone would be framed in shot without the person taking the picture realising they're there. I saw hundreds of photos of ghosts that were not visible with the naked eye clearly framed for the "ghost". The string levitating is very strange on its own and is centered in frame which is how most people would frame it. This is probably the closest I came to really believing in this stuff.

This is what I got when I edited the original photo… I feel like Occam’s Razer says that most likely this is what happened:

Person 1 saw string floating from static. Person 1 called Person 2 in to look at skyward bound noodle. Person 1 took a photo of string with flash. OP found photo and made a story.

What I do find interesting is the lack of shadow of Person 2. If flash was used. Would there not be a shadow behind the person in the doorway, if they were indeed flesh and blood?

Either way, it’s an interesting photo but we’re at the mercy of believing or not believing OP’s context.

What made her look at the photo 3 months later?

Also, and it could be an angle thing, but the figures left arm appears to be noticeably longer than the right. The right shoulder could be lifted a bit but something seems weird about this.

I’m curious about the Winnie the Pooh reference. Was your aunt a fan or did she have a shirt she always wore? I see why you think that image is there but it’s difficult enough to make out that I’m wondering if it could be like pareidolia.

When I witnessed my first paranormal experience in my 30s it changed everything in my life . I had read stories and perused the internet for true encounters but my mind would not allow me to believe , I’d tell myself that the storyteller was dreaming , lying etc and I’m sure that there are plenty of people who either think they’re seeing a ghost or are straight up lying but seeing my wife’s little brother who died roughly twenty years before my experience made me Realise that some of these stories are very true and also forced me to rethink reality , life after death and what else was out there not necessarily ghostly but still paranormal that could also be real …

How old was she when she passed ? Has your mother noticed strange sounds or felt like she wasn’t alone recently or has it always been this way since her sister passed ?

The hardest part when witnessing a ghost is getting past the “oh shit “ moment and the mind numbing fear that can accompany it … once I realized it was a family member and a child who was simply reaching out and exploring his sisters new apartment things got a bit better - I’m guessing she’s simply reaching out and wanting to let someone know she’s present and substantial and still important … wanting to be around her family like anyone would be in situations where we feel completely disconnected at times …

Also try not to be shaken up by her attempts at letting you all know she’s there and aware of the situation. Many people are baffled when the non corporeal repeatedly do things such as move the same objects over and over , walk in the same area repeatedly, open things etc they are trying to show you that it’s not a random thing that’s happening but that there is an intelligence behind what’s happening…

The sincerity of this post is interesting. Its also made me realize how pointless these kinds of subs are. OP could be telling the truth but we'd never be able to know for sure. The only way to truly know is to experience first hand. I hope I have the opportunity one day.

Everything I’ve seen personally has been a solid black or solid whitish mass. All the evidence I’ve seen others have supported it. I instantly toss out anything that has ghosts in clothes because why would clothing be part of a “spirit” of a human?

Does our closet full of old clothes come back to haunt us? It seems like a strange thing I’ve never understood as making any sense unless it’s possible for an environment to just “record” us or somehow have some sort of a time ripple where things are a bit out of place.

It looks like the figure is holding something in its right hand. Reminds me of an old cordless phone with an extendable antenna. Also, the left arm looks significantly longer than the right. Abnormally long.

In the first shot, you can see a hard figure in the dark. I think there's a dark shape added over the first image to hide the person and it's been darkened, second image is the original image and it's probably not been altered idk what the fuck I'm talking about source is me saying that.

I am skeptical. In the more exposed version of the photograph, you can see the bed's shadow from the phone's camera flash is present everywhere EXCEPT the immediate vicinity of the "ghost". After increasing the exposure on the original dark image the same is also true there. This indicates to me that the figure MAY have been added to the scene afterwards, and while the artist took care to ensure the resolution of the figure's image matched the graininess of the photograph, they forgot to blend the bed's shadow back in underneath.

I would truly like to believe - as this would carry with it a lot of other spiritual aspects.

It would be tricky to fake the string like it’s shown, which itself raises a lot of questions. Imagine you wanted to make string appear like this ? You couldn’t just suspend it from the top - it would sag, this appears to be actively supported by something at multiple points.

The string seems to be real as we see it’s shadow on wall in flash.

Now for the entity, appears to be middle aged woman. Hard to see if there’s any shadows but it looks solid to me. Just like someone standing there.

I guess this is either a well accomplished fake, with the string being particularly well done - or it’s genuine.

If genuine then I have to wonder why a relative who can manipulate string could not for example use a pencil, draw on a mirror, write in flour or indeed just speak. The energy required to lift the string is enough energy to manipulate something else to convey a message.

For that reason, alone I suspect this is “fake” by which I mean there’s maybe other things going on here. Because if it’s as it’s presented then this is an open channel of communication.

Interesting, I have a few explanations for the string but what that is NOT in the background is a ghost. That is a house guest wearing a Sherpa and dark denims.

We are already two spaces removed from the ground truth here, meaning the mothers’ account and OP’s account are in contention. There isn’t any video so we have only one frame to go on, and like come on, that’s clearly a whole ass human being right there.

I could engineer a photo like this in 15 minutes and ask my sister to stand in the doorway in the dark and have a ton of you being like “wow I can’t believe it, this is possibly the most real evidence yet” whilst telling you it’s absolutely genuine I swear.

If anyone is seeing this on your PC and confused as to why its so significant, look at it on your phone. Saw this on my monitor and was like, how did op miss this for three months, the figure is literally right there. Looked at it again on my phone (how they would have seen it) and yeah its kinda crazy, the figure its just a black shadow that blends in with the background. So this is a summary of my idiot self's experience as a mobile app user:

Stares at the (zoomed-in) picture of a floating string for like 5 minutes

The idea of a passed family member just standing there staring at me from the dark is way too spooky for me to handle lmao my mother loved anything paranormal, so knowing her she's lurking hahaha

So... ran photo through one program to see if anything was added to the first photo and the only thing added is the red circle. I then took it into photoshop to adjust and yep got the same results. Although I don't know OP if no one was standing there, something was definitely there and the arms are kinda off in length (Unless that's how she was).

Pixels seem to match up as well in the darkened areas and the lighter areas. I didn't do a super deep dive but this is nice. I've only seen and even if I have my camera because of my skill level no one would ever believe it's real lol

Its just a thought in the back of my mind when I see photos of people that poster claims that its a "ghost". Let's assume that ghosts are real, what are ghosts? Soul of a human after the body dies right?

So if the soul, which is just energy (or a form of it), then this energy (which scientifically can't be destroyed) must look like a mist or something like a blob (really don't know). If this energy or the "ghost" still retains shape and form of their body, then how do they retain clothes?

I mean... if the energy (soul) leaves the body, then it leaves everything physical behind, all the belongings and the clothes on the body as well.

Then how does a soul or ghost "render" clothes in its apparition? All it should be a blob of mist or something if not a disfigured naked human.

Just a random thought I sometimes get when I see these photos. Hell, I've seen some ghost photos of soldiers at ancient battlegrounds and people show apparitions holding musket rifles. Now a ghost that can shoot? That's scary!

Join a psychic medium subreddit. It’s interesting how they speak about the afterlife. I’m personally interested in past life theory and reincarnation. And it’s not necessarily the reincarnation part and the multiple lives that’s interesting. It’s a theory that we map out our physical lives as spirits/energy. Sometimes we don’t choose to reincarnate right away bc there are souls (family/friends) still living in the physical world that we can check in on and watch over and wait to rejoin us.

You need to post a full body photo of your aunt for us to compare if the likeliness is of her or not.

Even without bumping the exposure, you can still see the silhouette there. I have trouble believing it's anything but a real person, as it's so clear.

if you look closely at the second picture you can see your aunt smirking a little bit. i see it as a sign that she is indeed messing with your mother. and not to mention that in the first picture, your aunts body is visible with an even darker shade of black which would be a little unusual since your mother took the photo with flash on so if it was tangible person there they should be visible. and the fact that the photo is perfectly cut off at half her face so that you cant see her eyes is like magic

Horses and zebras and all that. If you see a picture of a normal looking person standing at the door why would your first guess would be that it's a ghost? The normal thing to think would be that it's a picture of a normal looking person at the door. Things that are very hard to believe need very hard evidence and the circumstances of this picture are not verifiable, we can't go back in time to see if there was really nobody there.

You said you think she passed about 13 years ago. Can you confirm that? When was the photo taken? Was it taken on a phone? Digital camera? Is there any Metadata or detailed digital data that can confirm when the photo was taken, what device took it, etc.? On the off chance it was taken on regular film, is the negative still available?

That’s not your mom’s reflection somewhere is it? It does look like Winnie the pooh on the sweater but it could also be a hand holding a phone to take a picture.

My father was Ill for years before he crossed over. He was past mid 70’s I lived in an apartment that had been converted in an old house. He appeared to me the way he looked in his 30-40’s. In his khaki work clothes. I’ll always cherish that memory of him. Of him appearing and letting me know he was okay.

If your mom was home alone, it's genuinely more feasible that a mentally ill person had gotten into her house somehow and was just standing there as this photo was taken. Not to scare you, but that's just the reality of it. The person is just too well-defined in my opinion for them to be of the spirit world.

Alright, if everything you said is true, I am impressed. However, that's where the problem lies. I have zero reasons to believe that this is anything other than simply a real human being standing in the doorway.

Now, that doesn't mean I think you are lying. You/your mother could simply be misremembering/misinterpreting things. There could have been someone over at your mother's house and she simply forgot. You can't see enough of this person's face to accurately identify them. In your own comments you aren't completely sure it's your aunt.

The floating string, could be done with friction electricity (correct me if I'm wrong), but looking at how big it is, I have no idea how much would be needed to do that.

Regarding the figure in the back, OP could be trolling us, but then again, we know nothing about the otherside, if we do know something we barely scratched the surface. So the figure, if it's OPs aunt then she may be just messing with OPs mom, like what OP said, and she's basically saying like "I've one up'd you sis."

One good way to know if the spirit is good or evil is the smell, your aunt has her signature scent, be a cologne, food that she knows everyone loves to eat, etc...but if you start to smell sulfur/brimstone, rotting corpse, etc...then becareful.

Also check if what you're experiencing is an intelligent haunting (spirit knows they're dead and is aware of their surroundings).

I do hope you and your mom are okay OP. Also I do hope your aunt is at peace.

I hate to be the one trying to debunk this and I really want to believe and have experienced things too. What is interesting is the string has a shadow but I don’t see any near the person I think from the position it would be to her left , if this is real this is the best one I’ve ever seen in my life and I’ve seen a couple that look like fog or mist in the form of humans more than anything.

I was going to make a joke about changing a baby boys diaper (moms of baby boys will get it) didn’t realize the lady in the background wasn’t meant to be there. Holy cow, that’s as clear as they come. Good catch!!

My great aunt came to visit my mom when I was a baby. She did so for 3 days, and a priest told my very terrified mother it was her way of saying goodbye. They prayed for her soul and the “haunting” stopped. The first day was pots and pan sounds at 3am in the kitchen. The second day was our piano playing her favorite song by itself. The third was the manual window in their early 90s Beamer rolling down by itself on the highway. My mom nearly crashed from fear, then went straight to the church after that incident. And yea, you bet your ass we got rid of the piano. But after that, it was nothing. And was sort of sweet that she came to say goodbye after passing suddenly.

This could be it. You should take this to professionals and have them look at the photo so they can confirm is not doctored and maybe this could be the proof we all were looking for

I know probably no one will read this comment but what made me definitely believe there is something more out there was when my can of bear just moved, clear as day, a few centimeters across the table. I only drank half of it by the time it was moved so I wasn't drunk or anything. It was my first night moving into a new place. Something like this happened to you too it seems but the only difference is that you got a chance to take a photo of it.

My uncle is still with us, after passing he decided it would be fun to mess with my mom I guess and he created what was like a sparkler going off, sparks of electricity in mid air. Then it just kind of fizzled away.

Playing pranks on your siblings obviously doesn't get old once you die, it just gets more entertaining.

I know this is many hours later but today is the 7 year anniversary of my mom’s passing from pancreatic cancer. She was my whole world and I feel so homesick for her still …and today has been really rough. My mom was a prankster just like the aunt in the photo. and we talked often about what happens when you cross over. I feel like I get signs from her all the time but am always second guessing if it’s just me wanting to see signs in things. I genuinely hope she is with me, with her personality and the pranks and everything (but not trapped here) and this photo and a lot of these comments are immensely comforting to me at this moment when I really needed it. I mean… maybe she somehow orchestrated me opening Reddit at work and seeing this right away. Either way, Thank you for sharing. ❤️

Her long arm is...interesting and lends more credibility this isn't natural, in my opinion. That's such an easy detail to not think about when you want to fake a picture of a spirit.

Obligatory, "if this is real" (sorry!) It honestly seems like your aunt is there to tell your mom (her sister?) that she's still with her. If you look at other cases of "friendly" hauntings, they do things that don't make sense to us. But, it's not like they can sit down and tell us that they're still with us. So my guess is this is/was her way of trying to tell your mom that she's still there.

It does look like your Aunt for sure. You said she died fairly young, 30-40 and thats what I would guess she looks in the photo. She also looks happy and almost like she’s looking at the string too. Since you said she used to pull pranks on your mom I would think that’s exactly what she’s doing here. It feels positive to me. :)

• You and your mother both confused this photo, taken with her, for a photo the two of you remember taking alone

I really wish I could believe you but it's too clear almost. The floating item looks like a metal wire or solder. It's clearly connected to the comforter.

As a designer i can assure this picture is 100% fake, there is no software capable of retrieving this amount of color and details out of black pixels, don't belive me? Try it for yourself, take a picture in a dark place with an object in dark and then try to enhance the picture

If that is indeed picture of a deceased loved one, then that is terrifyingly amazing capture. I see it as a kind reminder that though she is passed she is still there in spirit.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. There's no doubt in my mind you caught something paranormal in this picture.

My problem with this is that it wasn't a gentle way of letting your mom know your aunt was okay or that she was there. Your mother was scared and rightfully so. What type of relationship did your aunt and mother have?

Edited to add I see it's been several months since the photo was taken. Has anything else happened and how's your mom doing?
