Why not, honestly? It's something I've always enjoyed about the game because it's silly and adds a tad of fantasy, fits Minecraft a lot imo. But that's just what I think.

whether he needs it or not right now doesn't matter. To me i would think he would need a blade, and shears or a sword are the only two that look similar to knives people actually use.
it could also be that crafting the carved version spits out 1-2 pumpkin seeds in front of you, similar to crafting things and not having room.
Eh. I'm not a huge fan. The bottom of the zombie's shirt kind of sticks out, and the new pumpkin face just isn't as good as the original. Maybe if the pumpkin face was the same? I like the shading on the pumpkin, though.
What's with that line on the zombie's shirt? Pumpkin textures are fine but I don't like the new face at all, the old one was something iconic whilst this one just looks... sad.

Well I never knew the reason. Even if I did, the art style not being coherent is still just a matter of opinion. So I still don't understand Mojang because in my opinion there is nothing wrong with the original textures.
I respect your opinion, but it's not hard to see what's objectively 'wrong' with the current textures. They look decent, but for a game that's in the top three of best selling games ever, they're hilariously mediocre. The current textures have become iconic to the playerbase so everyone loves them, but the fact is still that the art style is all over the place. Jeb explained that this is because the textures were made by several different developers who each had their own style.
I can agree with that reason but I don't understand how it can extend to this pumpkin texture. As far as I can tell the only thing that changed was the face and that doesn't make the texture any more or less coherent, only different.
Even though the current pumpkin face is pretty iconic, I really like this new face. It makes the pumpkin look rounder. Iโm not sure about the curves on the side though, it would lo l really off if looked straight at. I also hope the bottom of the pumpkin was changed to look different, and not a copy of the top.

Pumpkins in Minecraft universe are actually non-mobile animals like corals, so they have a face.

I've got to say, I've been happy or neutral with most of these changes, but the pumpkin face is just far too iconic to change.
Change the shading, change the orange part, but I can't stand to see anything other than that pixel-perfect pumpkin we've had for so long.

Pumpkins shouldn't have faces--it's always bugged me. Jack o'lanterns yes, pumpkins no. It makes no sense for pumpkins to grow pre-carved.

Steve doesn't need shears to craft a face out of a pumpkin, but maybe they can't really change the recipe to give you both the pumpkin and seeds.
