How does the falling sand entity know when it hits water with command blocks? Does it just wait until it hits y=64 or whatever sea level is?

/execute has a detect argument that you can pass in to make it only execute from entities that detect a certain block in a certain position relative to them, so it's most certainly using that to check for water at the falling sand.

/execute <entity> ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~ ~ <block> <data value, put * or -1 to ignore> <command to execute if detect is successful>
Detect is a special kind of "command" that can only be used when ran with an execute command.

Minor change: you don't need
/executefor the last one because/killhas a selector you can use already:Ersatz_77 ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 05:18:09 on February 3, 2017 ยท (Permalink)
Thanks for pointing that out, I just threw these commands together quickly.

no animation, just command block wizardry. He basically made an upcoming 1.12 feature with command blocks in 1.11
