Turned Netherrack into Basalt. The Nether feels like an entirely different place.

I would feel uncomfortable if i was in the nether and the walls weren't bleeding.

Natura adds many biomes to the nether that all make sense and flow with vanilla. It also adds more Nether Mobs to extend off vanilla. The Nether looks WAY more complete and is MUCH harder as well. If a fraction of this stuff were added to vanilla it would be an improvement.

Kraken__Lord · 7 points · Posted at 02:37:34 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Natura doesn't add biomes to the nether, just plants and mobs. I think your mixing it up with Biomes O Plenty.

JesseKomm · 37 points · Posted at 11:02:01 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

I think that looks far better than the eye-abusing Netherrack. The Nether could certainly do with new blocks to break things up a bit.

Completely agree... I'd do it myself but I like to keep things vanilla. I hope they add a bunch of new blocks to the Nether, basalt looks great in there(Almost like the inside of a volcano). Doesn't have to all be replaced, just needs to be broken up.

WildBluntHickok · 2 points · Posted at 02:08:57 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Texture Packs are vanilla. But that's just semantics of course, we know what you meant.

A16BitHero · 1 points · Posted at 04:09:27 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Once I get a texture pack I like, I can't go back to default. Sphax is basically my default at this point. They even have texture packs for some mods, like pixelmon

Bravo_6 · 1 points · Posted at 12:15:33 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

yeah even the netherrack item in my inventory hurts my eyes. Luckily, Im using a 32-bit version of vanilla texture pack (Vattic's faithful) and its a lot more comfortable.

Timmiegun · 6 points · Posted at 11:16:39 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

We need this ingame! Maybe as just a big biome or so but this is something I would love to explore

[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 21:33:20 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

I'd put this below the bedrock layer, kinda like a Deep Earth biome that contains a new levelset of ore, mobs and loot. Accessible only from a new Stronghold type structure that works in a similar way.

Would make a great prelude to the Nether, but considering that the Nether is easier to reach first, perhaps the Nether could contain items and ores to help prepare you for the Deep Earth.

Spitballing and wishing, but I like the idea.

rydellpc · 1 points · Posted at 00:34:25 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

That would be pretty cool tbh, Only problem would be accessing Deep Earth

SactEnumbra · 2 points · Posted at 02:18:53 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Maybe the strongholds "bypass" the bedrock, kinda like a staircase or something, then access.

WildBluntHickok · 1 points · Posted at 02:06:15 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Can't put anything below the bedrock layer. Of course they could just raise the bedrock layer and put something under it because the real limitation is "can't put any block below y0".

I like the idea of something even deeper in the nether. Maybe change portal physics so portals made below y16 in the overworld make a destination portal above y16. Just like how portals above y127 in the overworld lead to nether-side portals below y122.

[deleted] · 1 points · Posted at 02:29:49 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

I don't think it should be lower than the Nether as it doesn't look as deep and hellish. But definitely fits some deeper than lava look. Also would be a different way to set the difficulty where the middle of the earth is harder than the bottom or top. Just to be different.

Timmiegun · 1 points · Posted at 06:34:55 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Yep and in DeepEarth you have scorched netherbricks and stuff. Besides potions the nether should have more reason to go to. Such as a passage to a new dimention. (Portal can be found inside a fortress? or a new sortof dungeon?

Mojang has implemented so many things but there's too much of it that's just unfinished. It's a shame, because the game would benefit tremendously from more completed content.

Freduccini · 5 points · Posted at 14:54:02 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

Have any thing in mind that would complete what they've started?

Serbaayuu · 16 points · Posted at 18:02:22 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

Making villages generate in a way that doesn't make them feel like they're still in alpha would be good.

Of course, that's hard.

WildBluntHickok · 3 points · Posted at 02:07:49 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

Honestly I think they've gone as far as they can in that direction. Players relaxing their standards are the only way to go further. Mojang relaxing the whole "well that building failed because the ground was too rough" mechanic and players being ok with the more derpy looking stuff that creates.

Serbaayuu · 6 points · Posted at 02:29:38 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

I don't think it's an unrealistic standard to expect 100% of buildings to actually be accessible by the NPCs in the village.

WildBluntHickok · 1 points · Posted at 06:05:59 on September 23, 2016 · (Permalink)

We don't even have that now. Houses with doorways 2-5 blocks above the road aren't that rare. Even in plains you get the 2 block ones.

Serbaayuu · 1 points · Posted at 10:35:40 on September 23, 2016 · (Permalink)

That's precisely my point. Villages are unfinished content.

I would love to see biomes be added to the nether. This game has a large exploration aspect to it, dammit.

As for stairs, slabs, and block variants. I think the system that Carpenters Blocks has would satisfy both Mojang and the players. Having "frames" for blocks that give the shape but then texturing them with what ever block we would like them to be.

Silver_David · 5 points · Posted at 12:01:24 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

Oh that's definitely a nice look. It has more contrast, which makes the lava pop out and appear to glow more.

trevormine · 3 points · Posted at 18:29:53 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)*

Looked pretty nice, made an alternate textures using the redpower basalt textures as a base to re-create it myself and created this. The smooth basalt texture seems to help with how open the nether is.

simpson409 · 3 points · Posted at 12:18:20 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

i like that alot, it adds contrast to the usually bland nether. to not get rid of netherrack completely they could put it 2-3 blocks under basalt, this way they could keep netherrack and make the nether look better. Please Mojang, let this happen.

i rather have it the other way around, make this the majority of the nether and the one we have right now a small biome

Capn_Cornflake · 2 points · Posted at 15:45:54 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

Looks like the inside of a volcano.

Can I have a download? I honestly really like this look.

jptplays · 2 points · Posted at 21:03:39 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

I did this as a bit of an experiment with the current resource pack I'm developing. (Also applied it to quartz, sandstone and nether brick.) Glad to see someone else thinking along the same lines. BTW... dark netherrack with shaders makes the Nether a really spooky and dangerous place.

LGBTreecko · 1 points · Posted at 12:02:54 on September 17, 2016 · (Permalink)

Resource pack?

That looks really nice. Reminds me of the underworld from Terraria. I think with a little more tweaking and the sliiighest of reddish hues it'd be golden.

idonthaveacoolname13 · 1 points · Posted at 01:31:45 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

wait, there's basalt now?

WildBluntHickok · 1 points · Posted at 01:59:55 on September 18, 2016 · (Permalink)

I once made a resource pack that traded prismarine blocks for nether blocks. It even traded water and lava, although lava-that-looks-like-water is still a light source. The effect is that the water looks like it might be radioactive. It's a good subconscious reminder not to trust it.

In my proper resource pack netherrack is still red but a slightly more pink red. It's a photo-based pack so it's got that real world "started off red but then got faded by the sun" look. Does the effect better than the default red clay texture.

now thats what i call hell! i love this!

Meh looks awful imo, makes it look just like any normal underground cavern with lava pools. The nether is supposed to look like hell and imo it's the BEST look place in vanilla minecraft, bar none. Netherrack is my favorite block as well.
