Internet went out for about an hour, decided to try animating again for the first time in forever... Not sure if I regret it yet.

Never seen an YouTube intro in this style, I only see ones like a bunch of chaotically rotating words in a void with particles, all shaking to the stupid dubstep or progressive house beat. All over the internet. Especially brazilian.

I didn't even notice that! Was going for the hand held effect, now it looks cheap and quickly thrown together. (like it totally wasn't already :P)

It's actually a piece of the block that wouldn't move. So I just swapped the texture for a transparent texture, copied the piece, scaled it down, rotated it a bit, and now it looks like a real diamond (with the internal reflections)! :D

Just a little fun fact. This animation made itself along the way, I just wanted to test motion blurs, and little by little, this beauty came out. :)

Thanks, this was mainly testing motion blur without using post. I think it turned out exactly how I wanted it. :D

Yeah, that wasn't my main goal, so I didn't really priortize that. Tried getting a hand held look. Again, only had an hour for this, so it is very rough. Getting the motion blur down was all I cared about.

Yeah I agree wholeheartedly. Everything besisdes the block breaking was very half assed and last minute. So it's bound to look cheesy. Even still, the block still looks half assed, it's just the motion blur I was worried about :P

Lol, I know what I'm doing, been doing it for nearly a decade now, but thanks for the help anyways. :)

The reason why it looks so half assed and cheesy, is because it is. I only spent 10-15 minutes on the animation. The rest was staging, simulation, lighting, and motion blur testing. The animation was never intended to be there. It was just a last minute idea. :P

Not sure why that happens, but I can't bring myself to kill them. They are so cute!

Oh lord, that would be difficult. I would really just have to model the entire block, pixel by pixel, which is 4096 pixels. Not really worth it. :/

I agree, I just had a discussion with a friend (who is also an animator) that there is a lot of lost potential in Minecraft animations, as it makes it really easy for young animators to not think of creative ideas. It doesn't teach them how to make complex designs, or learn curves, or detailed lighting, and it's not original. The characters aren't original, the assets arent, really everything about it is not original.

I only made this cause I used to (attempt to) make Minecraft animations, and have a tonne of assets and rigs. Another point, and why I did this so quickly, is because it's easy. This was not challenging at all in the slightest for me to make.

But if I did this with a high polygonal rock, with lots of curves and indentations, and with a human charcter, with lots of skin creases and expressions, and detailed poses, it's A LOT harder.

People just take the easy way, and most of them do it for youtube views, not for the skill they will learn.

If you're going to do a Minecraft animation, it needs to be about Minecraft. There's a reason why Slamacow is my favorite, and one of the best out there. He follows the lore of minecraft, and very barely breaks it for the sake of entertainment. Notice how all of animations are just about minecraft, and the adventures you have and experience? And bluemonkey and DigBuildLive are about crazy ideas and things that have nothing to do with Minecraft story?

Don't get me wrong, they are all amazing animators, but not all of them follow the story. Thags what usually makes it "cringey".
