More Portal stuff, episode 8.

With the riseheh of 1.9's levitation, I decided to make a smooth excursion funnel. It can go in any of the 6 typical directions (NSEWUD), and holds you in place just like in the real game. The upward one pulls you up, the downward one slowly drifts you down.

It's really as simple as that. Aside from the super basic particles, I'd say it looks and feels pretty nice.

If you run this command in your world, you can try it out. Use the "Create Funnel Start" armor stand to define the starting point, then do a /scoreboard players set @e[name=FunnelStart,c=1] funneldir X, where X is the direction it should go. 1-2 is +-X, 5-6 is +-Z, 7-8 is +-Y. It will travel until it hits a wall, and then your funnel will be done.

I was wondering when someone would make a system for Excursion Funnels. Now I just need to make something similar to this to work with my current portals. nice job!

Yeah, the main issue is that in this system funnels can't go through portals at all because they're static, but with some work it could be fixed.

It would be simple in theory. You could have a armor stand to mark where the start of the funnel is and then from the start armor stand you could teleport the funnel armor stand in the direction you need it to go. For the portals you would have to adjust the direction the armor stands are teleporting based on the direction the portal is facing.

Yep, that's very similar to how I handled light bridges in some of my old Portal stuff.

Nothing wrong with the blocks themselves, but the fact that you rely on xyz order using them exclusively makes me shudder.

Yes, in fact that's trivial to add. I could even do those buttons that dynamically switch the color on the fly.

The reason they aren't in this system is that I forgot about them ;P

Does the command compactor work with chain command blocks being in it?

It builds the main system out of blue ones, but if you type "con" before a command it will make it a conditional chain command block.

It will also reposition chain blocks to always work as intended by the user, even if they would have been placed at the front of the system.

Is it possible to make the one that pulls you into the funnel have orange particles and the one that pushes you away have blue particles, just like the game?

This could make for a great way to get around in a server hub; like a rail system but without having to use tons of minecarts. It's slower, but the one-directional nature of it offers unique design opportunities that would prevent player interference (like jumping out of a minecart and clogging up the track when other players collide). Would be good as a method to put players into an arena: they could be raised up from below like an elevator and then have a door shut beneath them, or be ejected from a wall opening that's too high to reach.

Edit: yes, I know that in a command-block server you could just use the teleportation commands to accomplish the same results, but to me, that always feels like taking the easy way out, and breaking player immersion. If you have to ride a "transport tube" to your destination, it makes it a bit more magical; use the effects to work with the lore of your server environment.

A little too fast imo. If you want to stay. Accurate to the game I think you should make them slower. Pretty neat though!

The gfy was sped up slightly to fit the time limit, so it appears faster than it is. Also, it needs to be fast enough so that the player can't fight back, which isn't affected by slowness.
