For how hard heads are to get, I agree with others that this should be an actual effect. Really cool concept.

Out of curiosity, would it still work if 2+ players wore the same head at once?

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 22 points ยท Posted at 03:47:12 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Yep! If a command creation isn't multiplayer-friendly, I won't post it.

SuperSMT ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 15:11:46 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

And give the heads durability, so they don't last forever

AlternateMew ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 03:19:00 on August 1, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Unless you make some crazy farm or use /give, you're not going to get heads like a piece of diamond armor or something. I think their rarity justifies infinite durability.

NightOmegaX ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:46:58 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

That's a bit harder than just setting teams.

[deleted] ยท 18 points ยท Posted at 00:33:52 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

It would be cool if this got in the game! You sacrify armor for immnunity to 1 mob

[deleted] ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 02:43:48 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Sure would make the nether a hell of a lot easier. I hate those damn wither skeletons.

[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:02:56 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Wither skeletons would need to be the exception to that, the heads are far too easy to get :p Maybe wither skeleton heads obtained via a large creeper explosion could be different than the normal ones though

GarishSpoon ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 14:42:43 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Wither skeleton heads are still pretty hard to get. I think it would be balanced fairly.

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:06:53 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

So if you get one no skeletons attack you anymore? Farming them would be way to easy then.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 15:52:37 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah, I do want to change it in the future so that attacking a friendly mob temporarily removes the effect, so you can't slaughter everything with no consequences.

To clarify, though, the wither skull only makes wither skeletons passive, not normal ones.

GarishSpoon ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 16:09:42 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

You should seriously suggest this to mojang. When you think about it, pumpkins almost already do this for endermen, although wearing pumpkins suck because you can barely see. But if you hit the endermen they will attack you. So if mob heads just made that specific mob neutral to you that would work very well and would make sense. And it basically already exists with pumpkins and endermen.

DrRobotNinja ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 18:15:20 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

sacrify

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 19:19:22 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

?

DrRobotNinja ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 19:43:29 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

The word you want is "sacrifice"

The8BitMonkey ยท 16 points ยท Posted at 00:23:32 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

going to guess you're using teams to prevent the player from being attacked?

Very nice concept, makes it compatible for Multiplayer as well, which is always a bonus :)

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 00:25:21 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)*

Yep! As soon as I saw this post, that was the first idea I had.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 00:12:22 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)*

Simple command block creation that actually gives a use to mob heads. It works with zombie, skeleton, creeper, and wither skeleton heads. Even mobs wearing a given head will be friendly with that mob in the event of a conflict.

Pretty cool effect, I'd say. My next goal is to make endermen and other mobs drop their heads, and have them work with the system as well. Next next goal is to make it so damaging a mob temporarily suspends the effect.

Here's a pastebin link to the command:

Evtema3 ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 16:18:58 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Could it work with Dragon Heads too? :D

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 21:20:37 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Just tested it. As usual, Ender Dragon AI is funky and inconsistent with everything. It doesn't work.

Evtema3 ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 21:35:42 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Thought so. That's why I phrased my question "Could" - the Ender Dragon's AI is seriously messed up.

ULiopleurodon ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 13:31:00 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

This is gonna be amazing.

sdb2754 ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 10:27:58 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

I like it. I'd like to see it in vanilla...

It seems balanced since they are so hard to get.

[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 10:58:05 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

I've always wanted this to be an actual feature.

EDIT: Would it be possible to make them neutral instead of passive? So that if you attacked one, they'd fight back.

Skylinerw ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 00:39:26 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Should be noted that this isn't restricted to 1.9 because this feature was introduced in a 1.8 snapshot.

A difference with 1.9 is the Shulker being unique, as they will target non-teammates if they are placed into a team. This doesn't occur with other mobs (yet).

And one other thing is the ability to create a mob that is placed into a team automatically with the "Team" tag:

/summon Creeper ~ ~1 ~ {Team:"TeamName"}

That data is only read from, not stored onto the entity, so it can't be tested for directly after-the-fact (minus the use of target selectors and the 'team' parameter).

NightOmegaX ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:49:20 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Come back to YouTube I miss you

Skylinerw ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 05:15:05 on August 1, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Sadly recording is currently difficult. Don't have a computer capable of recording and running Minecraft at the same time. Otherwise I definitely would've liked to get some info out from the snapshots, but I'm sure most of it's been covered by now.

Darkiceflame ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 19:28:23 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

So if you put on the Ender Dragon's head...

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 21:21:53 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Nothing happens because dragon AI doesn't interact with teams the same way as other mobs :(

Avgars ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 00:10:42 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

That's every interesting.

MapleJava ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 06:22:43 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

And what if you wear that notch head?

the_singular_anyone ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 09:26:50 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

If I wear Notch's head, will Notch finally be my friend? ;_;

deleted What is this?

MapleJava ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 06:52:02 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

"I am Notch. I am God"

Kruithne ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 12:22:42 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

This would be AWESOME to have in the game.

GarishSpoon ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:43:35 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Wearing a zombie skull in minecraft is the equivalent to wearing zombie flesh in the walking dead.

GarishSpoon ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 16:11:01 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

I'm sure we're gonna get a lot more zombie servers now that actually let you play as a zombie now, that will be awesome.

Haephestus ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 15:50:34 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Would be interesting if this worked with the Ender Dragon too!

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ tryashtar ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 21:21:23 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

I tested it, and I'm afraid the dragon AI ignores the "don't attack teammates" thing, as I expected.

ClarkTheCat ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 16:57:07 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

I would like to say that this can help in hunger games or hide and seek. Sometimes mapmakers ignore dark areas and make them hiding spots. Googlies spawn in dark areas though so its perfect for multiplayer games. In hunger games, you can probably hold nothing while hiding behind tall grass so that you can fool someone into thinking you're a mob. Pretty Cheeky, don't you think?

xmaxjj28 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 19:39:49 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

soooooooooo. Wearing a player head makes that player unable to hurt you?

Srmingus ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 01:01:58 on July 31, 2015 ยท (Permalink)

Wow, this is such a small but genious feature
