/u/Cubehamster unintentionally inspired me to make shulkers as well. They're a bit different from /u/samasaurus6's, but still neat.
You can /give yourself any spawn egg and add {shulk:1} to the data tag and it will spawn shulkers. They are closed until a player is nearby, then they spin open. They spin closed when you walk away. While open, they fire special projectiles.
Projectiles first travel along the X axis until aligned with the player, then the Z axis, then the Y axis. Upon contact, you get (glitchily) levitated for a couple seconds. If the projectile can't hit you for ten seconds, it bursts and dies.
Kill the shulker to get XP and an ender shard. Put five of them on obsidian and light it on fire to spawn and ender crystal. That's basically it, I'd say it looks really nice.
The whole system is compressed into a instant-install command I made with a program I made. Here are the links:
Looks awesome! The animation is very nice. How does it detect the nbt tag?

You can assign players a scoreboard of holding an item, in which you can give nbt. What I normally do is have a someone hold an item with NBT, and if they are, they have a countdown score of 2 ticks. Then every tick every person is removed 1 point from that scoreboard.

scoreboard players set @a shulk 1 {SelectedItem:{tag:{shulk:1}}}
Oh, didn't know you could do this! So even if they aren't real nbt tags, the item stores them as data? Cool

Why is it an anvil?

It was supposed to be a cauldron on a slab, because that matches the actual shulker pretty well, but cauldrons don't render on armor stands, so I switched it to this.

That's awesome! Though different, yours is just as good as Samasaurus's.

Why does your sword have a white tip on the inventory item?
