Enhance redstone with block breakers. I already posted the block placers here, but both machines in conjunction are way cooler to show than just one.
Drop a diamond pickaxe on top of any dispenser and it becomes a block breaker. Destroying it will drop the pickaxe again.
While powered, the block breaker will destroy any block next to its dispenser face excluding bedrock. It can be used in conjunction with the block placers and pistons to make some really cool redstone mechanisms.
Up next is OpenBlocks's vacuum hopper with command blocks, which should enhance redstone even more.

Awesome! So glad you did this.
I'm seriously looking forward to the vacuum hopper. It's such a great idea and it would fit in perfectly if it was added as an official feature of the game. Fortunately, we have command blocks to replicate what it would look like in vanilla.

This block breaker is lossless and automatic, though. You could still make a wither cage, but wither cages are pretty complicated and expensive.
