Or he could just set up a clock at spawn that constantly teleports all non-hostile mobs down to the void. Spawn is a chunk that is constantly loaded, so the clock would get rid of everything before his cart even gets to it.

Where did you get the information that he is doing it for a new PC? That is entirely inaccurate. He accepted donations to recoup his hardware upgrade costs for the project and after that is sending the money to Child's Play.
Yeah, this stream definitely isn't a typical stream. I'm not sure how familiar you are with JL and the Zipkrowd, but the group is filled with minecrafters who push the game to it's limits. They were the ones responsible for that nether TNT video a few weeks back. IMO, it's interesting to see the person who constantly pushes the game to its limits finally break the game. It also puts the numbers into perspective; reading that it takes 17 days to travel to the end of minecraft via minecart is interesting, but watching it happen in real time actually gives a feel for the amount of time 17 days actually is. The C148 music is also awesome!

Made me download the shader. I was on my pirate ship today watching the giant waves. The safe zone seems to be 16 blocks, which means if I stand at one end of the ship the other end is bending. Very odd looking.
