Identify Items in Vanilla Minecraft
It appears I have found a chest in this dungeon I totally didn't build thirty seconds ago. Let's open it!

Oh, a sword! It kind of sucks, though, only doing 3 damage and all. But I can identify it! If only I had something to identify it with!

Sweet! That pathetic sword was actually a legendary item! It's a lot stronger and has a special ability!

Command Blocks
I don't want to delve to deep into them, but these basically detect when you throw the identity scroll and display the message. Using the trick I found earlier with custom NBT lists, it only works for papers with the text "scroll" in an "identify" list.

These command blocks detect when you throw a diamond sword with "diamond_sword" in the identify list. They kill it and give you an identified one. The middle command block with the redstone ore in front gives you the originality sword every time, but you could hook it up to something else.

Yeah. I'm sure there are several games with something like this in it, but I based it on Fate.

In my opinion this should be in the game already as a standard thing. Not with command blocks or a mod. because to be honest.. I hate command blocks.

I still can't stand that making a mod with command blocks is called "vanilla minecraft."
