It may not be likely that the person using it actually knows the exact meaning. However, it is possible or likely that s/he had heard it being used in a similar context by their pastor, who is probably well-versed in the history of the bible and the meaning of it. So they might have been just echoing what they had heard from the authority.

That's just the literal translation of the name Satan. No one, including pastors, uses Satan in that manner. I garuntee you he was implying that Lucifer himself possessed this man.

I swear, no matter how private a person I am, I find I'm constantly introduced as 'he vegan'. 'Hey, everyone! This guy's not in our in-group!' Well. There actually is partial possession (according to those who believe). Three stages to demonic possession. Manifestation, where the victim usually hears bumps in the night or shadows on the corner of your eye, meant to unnerve you. Second is Infestation, where victim begins to actually see an entity, hear voices, etc. Meant to mentally exhaust and frighten. And third, full possession.
I know this is usually a joke sub, but I actually knew something relevant for once.
I don't believe this shit, but I do love good ghost stories.
I don't know much about psychology but this sounds like a very archaic interpretation of different levels of schizophrenia. I wonder if the "possessed" people that these sorts of beliefs are based on would nowadays just be classified as schizophrenic.
I actually have the same hypothesis myself, and (based on what I've seen on TV and Documentaries) a lot of specialists as well.
If you look at the symptoms of "possession" many fall in line with numerous mental illnesses ranging from paranoia, and depression to full blown psychosis and schizophrenia.

Holy shit! I know who did this- it was my uncle. I know I sound crazy, but he's done this before, and has admitted it to us. He always talks about how evil Christmas lights are, and spends his time making these weird pamphlets. So when we saw a similar headline on the news, my dad inquired him about it. He said he was surprised they only covered the letters in just one city, because there were many others. He's disappeared for a year now, and told us that he would go to DC. I showed the picture to my grandma, and she said "yup, that's definitely Bob ". What is the source for this article OP? I need to know.

Well. There actually is partial possession (according to those who believe). Three stages to demonic possession. Manifestation, where the victim usually hears bumps in the night or shadows on the corner of your eye, meant to unnerve you. Second is Infestation, where victim begins to actually see an entity, hear voices, etc. Meant to mentally exhaust and frighten. And third, full possession.

I actually have the same hypothesis myself, and (based on what I've seen on TV and Documentaries) a lot of specialists as well.
If you look at the symptoms of "possession" many fall in line with numerous mental illnesses ranging from paranoia, and depression to full blown psychosis and schizophrenia.

Holy shit! I know who did this- it was my uncle. I know I sound crazy, but he's done this before, and has admitted it to us.
