Well it's not quite so ridiculous. It just comes formatted in the mac format (which name has completely vanished from my mind) and will come with the utilities for mac. As someone competent with tech it may seem like useless features, but some people may find those valuable.
The ridiculous point comes with the 25% price gouge they do by sticking the for mac label on it

Eh, I generally don't like any video reviews of any piece of hardware component (as opposed to a whole device with custom software like a phone or a prebuilt PC or something), unless it's like 3 minutes of nothing but dry facts and benchmark. Anything more than that seems like a waste of time to me, I just happen to know about that guy's channel. That's why I generally opt for either automated comparison/benchmark sites, or text reviews.

You can't stick with windows 7 for much longer. It is nearly 7 years old, and they won't support it forever. With the typical price of a Windows OS being ~$180, getting the newest OS for free is a great deal. I have tried linux, chrome, and mac, but Windows remains the best for my purposes.

I've worked for more than one of the big software companies and both of them were far more concerned with profit and public image than spying. They don't give two shits if you've got some private ass stuff stored on their OS, as long as it's on their OS, not linux or mac. Sure they'll scrape data in a couple spots, but that's pretty much only part of their continuous effort to secure more customers.

Awesome, that's what I was coming to find out. Lots of sorting options would be amazing, like most controversial would be like reddit: close to zero average, but tons of up and down votes, so I guess likes and dislikes on youtube being almost equal.
Other stuff like over a certain threshold, like over 100k views, between x and y views, etc would be nice. Maybe sort by tags too?

It's an easter egg, it's something YouTube implemented. Some people think the whole youtube community comes together for that one video but it's simply not true.
And the Neutral Response video only has 5 million views yet it has 550k votes. But take this video which has almost 14 million views and only ~330k votes. So that Neutral response video has an unsually high ratio of votes per view. Not even PewDiePie, the most popular YouTuber has that ratio of votes. This is his most viewed video with over 70m views, yet only 1.3m votes. So it has 14 times as many views as the Neutral Response video yet just over 2 times as many votes.
There's no definitive proof that it's an easter egg, but it makes sense. No matter how hard someone brigaids the vote count, it always comes back up in 5 minutes or so. The 270k votes seems more likely for a 'meme' video like that. Someone actually asked on Quora about it but got no responses so I re-asked the question in the hopes that a Google or YouTube engineer will respond, they're usually pretty active on there.
First, it stands to reason that this video would have a much higher ratio of votes to views, since the votes are the main draw of this video. People are linked to the video from reddit (or equivalent site), see the joke, and then participate by voting up or down to even the balance. So it should have more than normal votes. A lot more.
Second, I don't know how your timeline proves or disproves anything. Are you saying that it isn't realistic for 34,000 votes to appear over the course of 3 months? One afternoon on the frontpage could drive that amount of traffic.
Third, saying that Youtube is permanently and majorly altering a user driven statistic is a bold claim that I find unrealistic. Likes and dislikes are an important metric that individuals and companies spend thousands of dollars cultivating, and I would be surprised if Google secretly manipulated those numbers for a joke.
And my final, and strongest, point: here is a repost of the Futurama clip. At the time of this writing Likes: 10,402 -- Dislikes: 10,401. If this video also has the like/dislike balance occurring, are you suggesting that Youtube decided to implement the same easter egg on a second, less popular video?
I believe that the internet is capable of bringing large amounts of people together to create stupid, large-scale, wonderful things, and this is one of them. If the internet was able to keep /r/thebutton running for 2 months, or play pokemeon over twitch, then it is certainly able to keep the vote count of a video balanced.
You can believe that the cancer ridden YouTube community did it if you want. But it's an easter egg. And the button can't be brigaded and messed up, so it's not hard for someone to come in and press a button. TPP was pure luck and the same principle that a bunch of monkeys on a typewriter will eventually write the works of shakespear.
And, no matter how hard people try to get the bar in one direction. 4Chan an other communities have tried, it comes back go equal in a matter of minutes. And the amount of votes in the matter of minutes is disproportionate to the amount of views the video would have statistically gotten in that amount of time.
And yes, YouTube has introduced it on all of the neutral planet videos. It's not hard go find them.
You think it's hard to find them? How did you find that video? It didn't take me long and it didn't take you long. Someone at YouTube sees it and flags it. There's being cynical and then there's being realistic. You can tell me that you saw a person fly, but I don't need definitive proof to tell you that you didn't see it.
Insisting that something is true when you have so little evidence is a bad look. The whole reason I commented was because you presented your easter egg explanation as a fact, when it turns out it is just your theory.
Just because you recall a 4chan brigade (which you haven't presented evidence for), doesn't make it a fact that Youtube is running an easter egg across half a dozen videos. It would also make sense that Youtube has systems in place that block or revert brigade attempts, or that half of the people in the brigade have OCD and counteract the damage that the others are doing.
I would respect you if started out by calling this a theory. But your confidence towards something that you know so little about is very immature and unhelpful.

...and? The reason that the neutral response video has so many votes is because the whole premise of the video gives a reason to vote. It's much more likely for someone to give a like or dislike on that video if they're already signed in and everything, than on any other normal Youtube video.

5 minutes is a pretty long time to give the internet as whole to do something. I wouldn't be surprised if there are hundreds of people that make it their duty to make sure that the video stays at a neutral amount of likes and dislikes.
Then it's extremely weird how the video started off as a regular like/dislike bar and then all of a sudden became balanced. Regular youtube users aren't doing it, no matter how hard you believe.

I laughed at this one because it's one that my brother shows his 2 year old son. His son fucking looooves that video, too.
This also explains the dislike ratio to it. I watched it once with him, and he explained to me that it's kind of one of their routines, his son likes to watch the video at least once a day. He even asks for "green bus".

He did it for attention, and it worked. Half of the brazillian YouTube community jumped screaming at that guy, he received a ton of hate... but he gained many thousands of subscribers, it was quite a jump for his Channel.
His excuse was something like "this 100k plaque is holding me back from reaching one million".

Im pretty sure the most disliked video is either Baby by JB, or Friday by Rebecca Black. I remember seeing it on a video a while back on the most disliked videos, I don't have a source though, just assuming :).
I've thought of something similar, but sort using a formula of number of views and view duration. For example, a video with 1 million views with an average view duration of 80% will rank much higher than a video with 1 million views and 40% average view duration. I wish YouTube would publish those numbers.

They used to have that feature implemented but removed it, sonow the closest thing is sorting a search by upload date.
As someone who doesn't browse YouTube, this is useless to me. I don't know the names of any channels.
I feel like your site has potential, but would have a much broader appeal if the default option was to show most disliked of all time, with an option to search by channel.

I wish you could see most disliked even if it's less than 30% overall. For example, it's likely that a popular YouTuber may have an 80+% positive rating on all videos, but there has to be one that's liked the least. I would like to see that kind of detail.

And he's still getting better, too. Since he switched to 30 minute videos a few months ago he's started to move away from his constant subject switching, trivia filled videos into videos that really feel like they have a lot of meat.
I did it on top of the construction site in the main city. Get booster rockets, attach them to a guy, attach the guy to the crane, set boosters off and contract quickly after then let go. It counts the way up and the way down so it's easy to get about 1.5 or so, you just have to get a bit lucky.
You have more imagination than me. At this point I just wingsuit around with the nuke gun in hand, ready to cause chaos when necessary.

I grappled onto a train while parachuting and waited a while. You keep getting further away from the train the longer you wait and it doesn't seem to have a limit. Also when you reel in you also get the extra length added by the train moving.
I think I got 1.8km when I did it, and I could've gotten more but I got bored.

When looking at it as a channel by channel basis, sure you can use that metric to see which videos are disdained. But just because people do not like a particular video doesn't make it controversial unless a considerable amount of people also enjoy it.
It just means that video didn't resonate with their intended audience.
God damn you are dense. A subject is not controversial unless a large amount of people disagree with the topic, but another large group of people also agree with it.
It has nothing to do with people's personal opinions about the person in question, or any of their past works. It only pertains itself to the issue in question, and if a group of people's feeling are split on the matter.

If you get "nothing controversial", then it means the channel has no videos with more than 30% dislikes. If you get a message saying the channel is in a queue, it could take a short while due to the large number of requests right now.
EDIT: tl;dr I haven't got around to multithreading yet!
But then it wouldn't reflect how bad the video was, just how many see it. Gangnam style has more dislikes than my Dragon Ball Z AMV with Linkin Park music (which has 1 like and 39 dislikes) but that doesn't mean it's worse.

Back in like 2002 David used to make Dragon Ball Z videos with Linkin Park music and host them on his website he paid for and I think he made money. Crazy times, before YouTube even existed.
It's interesting that you put the same visual content to the same audio content - but given the target audience, I'm sure that appeals to lots of people and isn't the wildest idea.

well yeah, but most people want to see POPULAR bad videos. Maybe have a slight weight against view count, but only slight. It's like not wanting 1 dislike and 0 likes like you said. No one wants to see 12 dislikes and 1 like.
Then they would just take the ones with the highest percentage of dislikes, and rank them after their view count. That way the list would have a 'perfect' (if it could search through all of youtube of videos with something like <50K views) list of views with both high ratios and high view counts.

Oh yea. I work on a car classifieds website. Our company is closely monitoring the desktop/mobile ratio and the mobile has been slowly but steadily climbing. What's more surprising is that desktop is not loosing, mobile is just climbing faster than desktop. At the moment I think we're at 55% for mobile, which includes both android and iOS apps and the users accessing the website from the mobile devices (even though our website is not resposnsive, we're working on it).
This yea, one of our yearly goals is "Mobile first", we need to make everybody in the company understand how important mobile is and to design everything with mobile first, because even now the majority of our visitors is using the mobile, so no point in making desktop centric features.
One of the things that surprised me at one of the meeting was when the boss asked us "did you ever watch a full movie on your mobile phone" (of course I didn't), but one of the guys did raise his hand, and boss told us that some people DO watch entire movies on their mobile phones!

Friday was removed and reuploaded a few times so its dislike count is way smaller than it originally was. It'd probably still be first if all of them were added, but because people could have disliked it multiple times (once each upload) it's impossible to tell.

This video had around 95% dislikes before the uploader decided to disable voting. It's a prank where he kidnaps two of his friends and as a joke, kills one of them with a pistol, in front of the victim of the prank.

The only dislikes I have on my channel so far is because some douchebag asked for feedback on his total shit post video about how stupid somebody was and I told him it was utter tripe and he went on my channel and downvoted til he got bored. Sorting by dislikes isn't going to give you a channel's most controversial videos. You would need the numbers of likes and dislikes, and look for videos where they are closest.
Sorting by dislikes is just going to give you the worst videos.
Just went back to the site today, and it is doing much better, great job! It's a hell of a lot faster, is more lenient with dislikes, and disregards videos that barely had any likes or dislikes. Great changes so far and so soon. I think it'd be better to bring back the date of the video.

Eh, I generally don't like any video reviews of any piece of hardware component (as opposed to a whole device with custom software like a phone or a prebuilt PC or something), unless it's like 3 minutes of nothing but dry facts and benchmark. Anything more than that seems like a waste of time to me, I just happen to know about that guy's channel. That's why I generally opt for either automated comparison/benchmark sites, or text reviews.

You can't stick with windows 7 for much longer. It is nearly 7 years old, and they won't support it forever. With the typical price of a Windows OS being ~$180, getting the newest OS for free is a great deal. I have tried linux, chrome, and mac, but Windows remains the best for my purposes.

I've worked for more than one of the big software companies and both of them were far more concerned with profit and public image than spying. They don't give two shits if you've got some private ass stuff stored on their OS, as long as it's on their OS, not linux or mac. Sure they'll scrape data in a couple spots, but that's pretty much only part of their continuous effort to secure more customers.

Awesome, that's what I was coming to find out. Lots of sorting options would be amazing, like most controversial would be like reddit: close to zero average, but tons of up and down votes, so I guess likes and dislikes on youtube being almost equal.
Other stuff like over a certain threshold, like over 100k views, between x and y views, etc would be nice. Maybe sort by tags too?

It's not like there hasn't been YouTube easter eggs before. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIkhgagvrjI will forever say 301 views for example.
And the Neutral Response video only has 5 million views yet it has 550k votes. But take this video which has almost 14 million views and only ~330k votes. So that Neutral response video has an unsually high ratio of votes per view. Not even PewDiePie, the most popular YouTuber has that ratio of votes. This is his most viewed video with over 70m views, yet only 1.3m votes. So it has 14 times as many views as the Neutral Response video yet just over 2 times as many votes.
There's no definitive proof that it's an easter egg, but it makes sense. No matter how hard someone brigaids the vote count, it always comes back up in 5 minutes or so. The 270k votes seems more likely for a 'meme' video like that. Someone actually asked on Quora about it but got no responses so I re-asked the question in the hopes that a Google or YouTube engineer will respond, they're usually pretty active on there.

Here is my rebuttal:
First, it stands to reason that this video would have a much higher ratio of votes to views, since the votes are the main draw of this video. People are linked to the video from reddit (or equivalent site), see the joke, and then participate by voting up or down to even the balance. So it should have more than normal votes. A lot more.
Second, I don't know how your timeline proves or disproves anything. Are you saying that it isn't realistic for 34,000 votes to appear over the course of 3 months? One afternoon on the frontpage could drive that amount of traffic.
Third, saying that Youtube is permanently and majorly altering a user driven statistic is a bold claim that I find unrealistic. Likes and dislikes are an important metric that individuals and companies spend thousands of dollars cultivating, and I would be surprised if Google secretly manipulated those numbers for a joke.
And my final, and strongest, point: here is a repost of the Futurama clip. At the time of this writing Likes: 10,402 -- Dislikes: 10,401. If this video also has the like/dislike balance occurring, are you suggesting that Youtube decided to implement the same easter egg on a second, less popular video?
I believe that the internet is capable of bringing large amounts of people together to create stupid, large-scale, wonderful things, and this is one of them. If the internet was able to keep /r/thebutton running for 2 months, or play pokemeon over twitch, then it is certainly able to keep the vote count of a video balanced.

You can believe that the cancer ridden YouTube community did it if you want. But it's an easter egg. And the button can't be brigaded and messed up, so it's not hard for someone to come in and press a button. TPP was pure luck and the same principle that a bunch of monkeys on a typewriter will eventually write the works of shakespear.
And, no matter how hard people try to get the bar in one direction. 4Chan an other communities have tried, it comes back go equal in a matter of minutes. And the amount of votes in the matter of minutes is disproportionate to the amount of views the video would have statistically gotten in that amount of time.
And yes, YouTube has introduced it on all of the neutral planet videos. It's not hard go find them.

Insisting that something is true when you have so little evidence is a bad look. The whole reason I commented was because you presented your easter egg explanation as a fact, when it turns out it is just your theory.
Just because you recall a 4chan brigade (which you haven't presented evidence for), doesn't make it a fact that Youtube is running an easter egg across half a dozen videos. It would also make sense that Youtube has systems in place that block or revert brigade attempts, or that half of the people in the brigade have OCD and counteract the damage that the others are doing.
I would respect you if started out by calling this a theory. But your confidence towards something that you know so little about is very immature and unhelpful.

...and? The reason that the neutral response video has so many votes is because the whole premise of the video gives a reason to vote. It's much more likely for someone to give a like or dislike on that video if they're already signed in and everything, than on any other normal Youtube video.
5 minutes is a pretty long time to give the internet as whole to do something. I wouldn't be surprised if there are hundreds of people that make it their duty to make sure that the video stays at a neutral amount of likes and dislikes.

I've thought of something similar, but sort using a formula of number of views and view duration. For example, a video with 1 million views with an average view duration of 80% will rank much higher than a video with 1 million views and 40% average view duration. I wish YouTube would publish those numbers.

I wish you could see most disliked even if it's less than 30% overall. For example, it's likely that a popular YouTuber may have an 80+% positive rating on all videos, but there has to be one that's liked the least. I would like to see that kind of detail.

It works by getting the playlist which contains all a channel's uploads. I'm guessing just like in a normal playlist you might come across a video that is private, it works in the same way.

I did it on top of the construction site in the main city. Get booster rockets, attach them to a guy, attach the guy to the crane, set boosters off and contract quickly after then let go. It counts the way up and the way down so it's easy to get about 1.5 or so, you just have to get a bit lucky.

I grappled onto a train while parachuting and waited a while. You keep getting further away from the train the longer you wait and it doesn't seem to have a limit. Also when you reel in you also get the extra length added by the train moving.

But it is used to find controversial videos.
If you go to someone's channel that is generally well liked (ex: Ze Frank) and sort by most dislikes, you will find his most controversial videos.
It works for single channels, not all of YouTube

I fail to see your reasoning. A video with few likes but many dislikes is not controversial.
When looking at it as a channel by channel basis, sure you can use that metric to see which videos are disdained. But just because people do not like a particular video doesn't make it controversial unless a considerable amount of people also enjoy it.
It just means that video didn't resonate with their intended audience.

If you get "nothing controversial", then it means the channel has no videos with more than 30% dislikes. If you get a message saying the channel is in a queue, it could take a short while due to the large number of requests right now. EDIT: tl;dr I haven't got around to multithreading yet!

If you make a top 100 most hated list then make sure to set a minimum amount of ratings otherwise you'll get videos with 0 likes and 1 dislike.

Back in like 2002 David used to make Dragon Ball Z videos with Linkin Park music and host them on his website he paid for and I think he made money. Crazy times, before YouTube even existed.
It's interesting that you put the same visual content to the same audio content - but given the target audience, I'm sure that appeals to lots of people and isn't the wildest idea.

Oh yea. I work on a car classifieds website. Our company is closely monitoring the desktop/mobile ratio and the mobile has been slowly but steadily climbing. What's more surprising is that desktop is not loosing, mobile is just climbing faster than desktop. At the moment I think we're at 55% for mobile, which includes both android and iOS apps and the users accessing the website from the mobile devices (even though our website is not resposnsive, we're working on it).
This yea, one of our yearly goals is "Mobile first", we need to make everybody in the company understand how important mobile is and to design everything with mobile first, because even now the majority of our visitors is using the mobile, so no point in making desktop centric features.
One of the things that surprised me at one of the meeting was when the boss asked us "did you ever watch a full movie on your mobile phone" (of course I didn't), but one of the guys did raise his hand, and boss told us that some people DO watch entire movies on their mobile phones!

Not really. As someone here pointed out, Linus Tech Tips gets a bunch of dislikes every time he reviews Apple products. That doesn't mean that the videos are bad, it just means that the people watching are morons.

it's kinda sad how many of the shittier large channels don't have any controversial videos (e.g. Pewdiepie). Hoping for /u/Seytonic to include more YouTube channels, and I personally am all for having a less limited dislike percent than 30% or just showing a channel's most disliked video[s], despite it not being incredibly disliked.

I agree, in the future I hope to index at least 5 of a youtuber's most disliked videos even if they don't obey the 30% rule. More channels are included as people request them, its just very slow at the moment since there are 5000+ channels waiting to be indexed haha.

This video had around 95% dislikes before the uploader decided to disable voting. It's a prank where he kidnaps two of his friends and as a joke, kills one of them with a pistol, in front of the victim of the prank.
I don't know why he thought people would like it. Maybe he's just fucking sick. As far as I know this is not humor, and it's not funny in a single way.

It depends on the community. Viral videos tend to have the worst comments, but find a community related to a niche, especially on a smaller YouTube channel, and you can actually have some decent conversations and meet some nice people.

Sorting by dislikes isn't going to give you a channel's most controversial videos. You would need the numbers of likes and dislikes, and look for videos where they are closest.
Sorting by dislikes is just going to give you the worst videos.

Trust me there are many, CODblackopsPS's channel has over 1 million videos. Trying to index a channel like that right now would be suicidal on the server.
