Buy 365 near-identical, solid color shirts that range through the entire color spectrum in a loop. It will appear as though you wear the same color shirt every day, but in photos from previous months you'll be wearing a completely different color.

I plan to do this if I ever reach crazy-rich status.
Edit: So, thanks to you fine folks, I managed to achieve my lifelong dream of making Reddit's front page. I realize I can't tell my friends about it because then they may find out my username.
On an unrelated note, today I also achieved my life long dream of ripping a shirt by flexing (the shirt was a little small around the shoulders, I'm not actually strong). Shame, though. I really liked that shirt. Better buy 365 more.

senorbarba ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 05:08:56 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

It never gets better, my friend. I thought almost all my friends who were going to get married had, but then they start letting the gays marry. That made me have to drive 20+ hours to New York. Then your siblings' friends start in. There's always those younger cousins, and then, blam!, yours and your friends' kids are old enough to get married. Vicious cycle of weddings. We had two to go to last Saturday, and I was my fucking birthday!!

partanimal ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:35:17 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

No but for the full effect you would need to take a time lapse. If you contacted a shirt distributor warehouse or tye dye company and told then your plan I'm sure you could get a kick ass deal on nearly 400 shirts all dyed specifically that will be donated at the end of each month to the homeless.

If your rich enough that you don't need to work you can buy shirts for the next week on a weekend. So then if you know you have something important to go to you can buy a nice purple suit, or whatever color you are up to

NiceGuyJoe ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 03:01:07 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

NinjaRobotPilot ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:01:30 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

therussianalias ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 09:19:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Well, hello mister money-bags!

totallyshould ยท 12 points ยท Posted at 02:25:55 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I think that $30 is a perfectly reasonable price to buy a T-shirt that's been dyed to a precise custom color. What would actually be a lot cheaper is if they were all white T-shirts and you had a big thing printed on them. A printer could mix that precise color cheaply and accurately.

LiesToStrangers ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:06:29 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

In standard ink-jet cartridges that would be like, $100,000.00 worth of ink?

boredmessiah ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 11:54:57 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

My Canon inkjet should give me ~300 A4 prints per color cartridge and each costs about $20. Using this image and taking A4 as 21x29.7cm, one large sized tee is approximately equivalent to 33.13 A4 sheets. Let's make that 40 sheets to account for the extra ink required for cloth. Every cartridge would give me 7.5 tees, and so I'd need 48.67 cartridges. Round that to 50 and you have about $1000.

In other words, you probably need about $1000 worth cartridges to print a year's worth of tees, given that my printer is accurate enough. And I've overestimated at every step, even with the area of the tee. Unless my maths is completely off, I think /u/totallyshould is spot on. Blank tees and a color calibration device can't cost you the better part of $10,000.

LiesToStrangers ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:46:26 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Thanks for the math on that one. That was an informative and entertaining post. I am sure you already know that I was exaggerating to make the point that printer ink is over-priced but to be clear I will leave that for the record. Still quite expensive, I wonder how much that would cost in propper shirt-dye? I also wonder how effective printer ink would be at colouring shirts. My guess is not very good. With c, m and y shirt dye and mixing it up by measuring carefully im sure you xould do it at a fraction of that cost.

boredmessiah ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:01:21 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I know you were exaggerating, but I was curious as to how close or far off the mark you actually were. Sometimes doing the maths on wild estimates is fun. We all know printer ink is crazy costly, so the result was interesting. Printer ink would be rather inefficient, yeah. That's partly why I was overestimating. I suppose it would be even cheaper if you got hold of a suitable printer. And yes, careful ink mixing ought to make it cheap too.

LiesToStrangers ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:32:08 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah, I think you are pretty close though, I think some of your overestimations are cancelled out by the fact that shirt material is much thicker and more absorbant than printer paper and I am not sure if that ~300 pages estimate is for pages of solid colour. You are definitely closer than you think.

totallyshould ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:37:57 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Something like that, but I don't think that's what companies like Cafepress use to print the shirts.

s2514 ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 01:55:48 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I bet you could do it for like 5 bucks or less per shirt if you got a bulk deal.

[deleted] ยท 15 points ยท Posted at 02:14:08 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Hard to get a bulk deal when you're buying 365 different items, the vast majority of which will have to be made custom since T-shirt manufacturers only make like 30 different colors.

disguy2k ยท 22 points ยท Posted at 02:19:45 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You're better off buying white T-shirts in bulk and controlling the dye colours yourself. Especially because 90% of the colours needed to make this work won't be off the shelf

Lemonpopsicle ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 02:22:29 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

spongewardk ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 03:18:58 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I'd consider myself rich if I owned my house outright, always drove a luxury car made within the last five years, and ate out at $80/plate restaurants two or three times a week. And payed my kid's way through a private college. And that lifestyle was possible entirely on the profit from my investments.

CSharpSauce ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 11:41:27 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

InfanticideAquifer ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:58:52 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Oh, yeah, I suppose that the house in that scenario needs to be "nice" to qualify me as rich. Depending on area 500k would work.

I don't have a house right now. Or a kid. Or investments. But, if I am ever going to be rich (which is doubtful) I think it'll be after I have all that stuff.

NotReallyEthicalLOL ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 12:27:59 on June 9, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

you can buy 365 plain white shirts and dye them yourselves. The amount of dye it would take would cost less than $50, it would just take a lot of washing machine cycles

My mother was au pair for a very wealthy Italian family in the late 60s. Dream job Bathrooms with gold taps, that sort of stuff. She was treated more like a guest than staff. The man of the house wore this old sports jacket, and it made his very stylish wife mad. Get rid of the old thing, its falling apart, she would say. But he loved it, wore it every day. But it was getting old.. One day he came home with an exact copy of his favorite jacket.. and his wife was amused. So you are going to wear that until it falls apart too? No he says, and points to the 364 other copies hanging in the hallway!

grimeMuted ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 06:49:20 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Yellow light comes from a comparatively narrow band of wavelengths, and the RGB representation presumably used corresponds fairly linearly to wavelength. However, humans are good at perceiving differences between yellows (the just noticeable difference is low). This article gives some reasons why and seems fairly trustworthy.

TheGeorge ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 14:45:54 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Our eyes are crap at certain colours.

There's actually as many shades of yellow as there is each other colour, but we can't see them proper. We see some of them as different colours instead.

EZ_rider ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 05:21:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Not really sure, could be that a lot of the oranges and greens are technically considered yellows but our monitors/eyes display and see them as more orange and green than yellow...maybe?

I regularly buy t-shirts for a screen printing company. They cost less than $2 each. So I could pull this off for less than $730 if I could just find a wide enough variety of colors. I can't think of a single brand that has enough shades. I think they'd have to be hand dyed. Maybe if I bought 365 white t-shirts and dyed them all myself.

ZachWitIt ยท 70 points ยท Posted at 01:26:30 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

As a screen printer, you could not find 365 different colors in the spectrum. Hell the Gildans only have like 48 colors.

Only way to do this would be to buy a bunch of G500s and dye it yourself

Edit: this is what I get for responding with only reading half your comment - by exactly repeating it. I'm going to keep this up though to remind me of this shame.

[deleted] ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 03:34:16 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:34:23 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

How much would that cost?

ZachWitIt ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 04:19:19 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

To dye 365 shirts? Well if I ordered 365 shirts I bet I could get em at or around $1.30 a shirt, thatd be with a bulk discount on top of the discount we already receive for ordering so many shirts per year..... Then I don't know anything about dyeing shirts. Sorry we just print em!

capraclover ยท 20 points ยท Posted at 02:04:59 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Anyone who has ever hand-dyed anything will know dying 365 shirts would be hell. Assuming you don't want to wear pastels all year, it would be very hot water on the stove, stirring the shirts constantly... for 182 hours (30 minutes/shirt).

You'll also have to buy a ton of dye to get the color on the bottle which would be a chunk of change. Let's say you could dye 6 shirts per 8oz bottle of RIT dye at about $4 a bottle. That's $364 all by itself.

Source: once tried to dye 20 shirts green for an event. Pastel mint green was not what I was going for.

Make a color checklist, visit Goodwill once a week for a few months, check off what you find. Much better.

Also, the shirts have to be the same make

s2514 ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 01:57:35 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The best part is that you don't need to buy them all at once you can do it in payment plans.

disguy2k ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 02:34:11 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You would always need the primary colours RYB. Each colour is a ratio of these. You would need to vary your batches to make them additive instead of subtractive. ie. once you got from red to pure orange you would need to go to pure yellow and add red to go back to pure orange. You can't just keep adding yellow to get yellow. At least with this method you could get more mileage from the dye.

s2514 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:51:44 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I want someone to figure out the actual cost and time (including dye) on how to do this in the most efficient way.

ossej ยท 18 points ยท Posted at 01:14:31 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

If you dyed then yourself you could reuse shirts. Add yellow to the red ones to make orange shades, add blue to the yellows to make greens, then add red to the blues to make purples.

s2514 ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 01:58:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 08:29:58 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

ossej ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:12:54 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

It would be hard to get the darker tones out. Like going from Red to Yellow. Adding yellow will make the red orange, but the red will still be there, so you'll never get that shirt to be just yellow.

alfredbester ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 01:27:00 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

[deleted] ยท 191 points ยท Posted at 22:26:24 on June 4, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

This would cost about $2000, probably. If you're willing to go with, say, half as many shirts and wash them more frequently to reuse them more frequently, you could still pull off such an effect for half the price.

Get down to one shirt per week, running a tiny load of laundry every night or so, and you're down to about $260 (if you can get them around $5 per shirt). That's... that's approaching quite reasonable. 52 colors might not confuse EVERYONE, but I'm sure people would give you some quizzical looks.

This is top notch craziness right here.

Go from say (to use RGB hex) #000000 to #0000FF. 256 days and you've gone from black to bright blue, but nobody's going to see the difference between the shirts so long as they see you at least once every few days and you wear them in order.

[deleted] ยท 13 points ยท Posted at 22:31:56 on June 4, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

For quite a few of the shades you could re-use the shirts if you dye them yourself.

RobotPolarbear ยท 13 points ยท Posted at 00:47:57 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I can get plain white t-shirts for $1.35 a shirt. I'd have to dye them myself, but I could do it. Less than $500 plus the dye.

[deleted] ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 01:18:27 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah, it would be much easier to start with one color dye and then slowly dilute that dye with a different color until basically none of the original color remains. Dye shirts periodically during the process.... easy

atetuna ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 15:53:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

That wouldn't work. If you look at the RGB values for each wavelength in the visible light spectrum*, you'll see that there's a blend of two colors for every wavelength from 380-645 nm. It's even harder from 380-420 nm because both red and blue are shifting at the same time.

*I don't know where you'd find these values since I just programmed a spreadsheet that shows that data based on this bit of code.

8e8 ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 00:56:04 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

By half the shirts and then go in reverse when you reach the end of your spectrum.

peabnuts123 ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 13:19:54 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The difference in colour between weeks is significant enough to notice you are wearing a different colour though, unfortunately

MichaelNevermore ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 01:58:21 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Actually, you wouldn't need to buy them all at once. If you just get 10 of them, you can sell them after you've worn them. They'd resell for a decent price since they'll be barely worn. That would knock the overall price down considerably.

kuilin ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 16:49:27 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Sell them to another Redditor. If we coordinate, we only need 365 people wearing these, cycling amongst themselves, and each person only needs to fund for one shirt!

MichaelNevermore ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:10:49 on June 6, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

swohio ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:38:07 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The truly great thing about the original idea is that everyone will think you are wearing the same shirt repeatedly but you'll be able to honestly answer "no this a totally different shirt." In your idea, you are wearing the same shirt 5-7 times throughout the week (depending if you continue this on weekends or not) which kills half the fun in my mind.

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:28:14 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Yes, yes... BUT half the fun lives on! Like two halves of a worm, both continue to writhe though only one will live.

I would totally do this but with a dress shirt and matching tie. The tie doesn't have to e the same color as the shirt but it will also slightly change color. That would be so kick ass.

Seventytvvo ยท 31 points ยท Posted at 02:08:15 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You start with the complimentary color for the tie, and then have both go around the color wheel. You'll always be looking good any day of the year with this.

LeaveTheMatrix ยท 14 points ยท Posted at 01:53:04 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Shirts start out white, eventually going black.

Ties start out black, eventually going to white.

That's how I would do it.

bentreflection ยท 26 points ยท Posted at 02:43:45 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

LeaveTheMatrix ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:54:23 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Depending on just how gradual you did the gradients.

umopapsidn ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 04:32:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You could do one logarithmic and the other linear.

Audiovore ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:11:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Perhaps inverse the tie? Not sure if it'd always complement. Plus the beginning middle and end would have some matchups, depending on your chosen shade range.

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:15:06 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Nahh not inverse, that would be an eyesore for a lot of the colors, plus it would get boring after a while.

Not inverse as in negative color, just the opposite direction.

Also, hire a few hundred actors to populate a street your victim frequents. They can randomly stop in front of your victim, look them in the eye and say 'you know you're dreaming, right?' or 'you've been in a terrible accident' or 'please, wake up!' once every few days. And everytime an ambulance passes him have all your actors immediately stop and stare straight at him before resuming whatever they were doing.

Assaultman67 ยท 11 points ยท Posted at 04:11:05 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Because you're causing your victims to absolutely swear you've been wearing the same shirt for a year.

The thing is, if they see you in photos and see different color shirts, they might to start questioning their own sanity.

That's gaslighting.

[deleted] ยท 16 points ยท Posted at 05:37:38 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I don't see why people wouldn't notice the changing color...Maybe not after a day, but after a while you'd be like, that guy bob sure likes green shirts, wonder why he swapped to blue?

Is it really so hard to imagine that you could do the shirt thing with the intent of messing with someone's perceptions?

I get it. It's a stretch. But c'mon, I found a way to relate a misplaced comment about an elaborate coma prank to an idea about colored shirts. That's gotta be worth something, right?

You could also find 5 other friends, and each of you buy 2 months of shirts at each segment of the color scale. then, rotate shirts so that you would be the "rainbow" group of friends but it's be hard to realize that you're switching colors with each others.

SquidLoaf ยท 6 points ยท Posted at 01:12:37 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

If we're being technical, no. Haha

veggiter ยท 26 points ยท Posted at 00:24:42 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)*

Not really. Sure, evolution looks like that from afar, but it's not really how it works. This implies some kind of an ordered, consistent progression.

Evolution would be more like you randomly wear a different color shirt every day, and buy more of the ones you are complimented on and less or none of ones you receive criticism for or aren't complimented on. When you go to throw out shirts, which you do often, you favor those that receive fewer compliments (that is, you throw more of them out). Also, you occasionally and randomly burn piles of shirts for no reason (extinctions), throw bleach on some shirts ("bad" mutations) and mix new dye into some loads of laundry (neutral/potentially good mutations).

Also, the shirts would have to be sentient and capable of exploiting and sabotaging each other to increase the likelihood of being complimented on (predation/parasitism) and capable of working together for mutual benefit (symbiosis).

mullerjones ยท 29 points ยท Posted at 00:37:28 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I think he was only talking about the incremental changes

veggiter ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 00:49:49 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Right, but it's not at all how evolution works. It's only how it appears, which actually seems to be at the center of why a lot of people don't understand it.

That is, how evolution "appears" can be very misleading.

I was partly trying to be a pedant for the sake of it, but it really is an inaccurate and all too common view.

mullerjones ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 00:58:06 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Actually, it is a bit how it works in general. You sometimes have some big jumps in evolution, but generally you have small incremental changes. No one said anything about the mechanics behind it. The comment was more akin to species differentiation, different small changes in two groups that you don't perceive between one generation and the next until offspring between them becomes infertile due to the differences.

veggiter ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 01:14:23 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Actually, it is a bit how it works in general.

No it isn't.

No one said anything about the mechanics behind it.

The word choice "works" implies it's talking about the mechanics behind it.

The comment was more akin to species differentiation, different small changes in two groups that you don't perceive between one generation and the next until offspring between them becomes infertile due to the differences.

It's still only related to species differentiation in terms of how it looks not how it works. Species don't make slow imperceptible progress toward a new species, like the shirts would.

Evolution โ‰  progress.
Evolution โ‰ˆ change

Just because change sometimes averages in a certain direction doesn't mean that it's not moving in all different directions at the same time. If you disregard the chaotic basis of evolution than you are completely misrepresenting it.

mullerjones ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 01:51:33 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Dude, you were the one who used the word progress. I only talked of change, I didn't feel the need to specify the minutia of each step and say that they mutated randomly and were selected based on which traits gave them a reproductive advantage up to that point in which the genetic differences were large enough to render their offspring infertile.

As to the shirts, it's only "progress" as you called it if you know they are changing towards a certain color. If you were some random coworker, for an example, you would only notice small changes that build to something else.

veggiter ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 02:14:45 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I said progress, because the color change is progressing toward a specific and predetermined end.

Again, this looks like but does not work like evolution. The way it works is not at all similar to how evolution works, no matter how far you zoom out.

mullerjones ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 02:23:55 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Again, you might think so, but I don't. To me, zooming out it kinda reminds me of evolution in a way, and I don't think I have a poor grasp on the concept. I think it's more of a thing about abstraction.

veggiter ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 06:03:49 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Again, working like and reminding you of evolution are two different things.

Yep. Creationists make a distinction between "micro-evolution" and "macro-evolution" even though they're the same thing. They admit that, yes, there are slight changes over time, and it's completely reasonable to believe that (micro-evolution). They deny that one species turns into another, though (macro-evolution)... even though macro-evolution is really just repeated instances of micro-evolution. I like the color analogy, which I think very effectively shows the silliness of the argument.

Solution: Get three or four people together of the same size to all buy one set, then each start at different points in the spectrum. Even just one other person would cut costs in half. The more the merrier, and there are a lot of interested people in this thread.

You're only going to wear each shirt once, so it doesn't matter whether you own the shirt after that.

Thanks! It's a true honor!

farmthis ยท 7 points ยท Posted at 01:08:46 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

To put that in a little more perspective, that gives you 2 months to go from each primary color to secondary color.

IE, 60 days to go from yellow to orange. 60 more to get from orange to red.

It would be very gradual, indeed.

jazzyt98 ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 00:16:28 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

If you do it for work days, then you need less than 250 shirts. (roughly)

hyjnx ยท 5 points ยท Posted at 00:25:21 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You must commit to the plan! Everyday! What if you see a coworker on the weekend effect ruined. Your not the crazy greyscale guy who only wears that one shirt, anymore.

satanlicker ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 00:53:44 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

This...actually makes a stupid amount of sense, i really hope someone does this

xaqaria ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 03:28:56 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Start a kickstarter to raise enough money to actually do this and document the experience in a clever way. Make a short film. Remember me when you get internet famous.

zorfbee ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 23:16:42 on June 4, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Brilliant!

Big-Bruizzer ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 01:35:36 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

First you have to find a company that makes all those different color shirts. If you're a guy, good luck with that one.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ TheLimewedge ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 01:38:44 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Yeah. I figure I'd have to go custom.

TheDon_Perignon ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 10:42:16 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Or buy 183 shirts then wear them in reverse order to get back to the beginning. If you're not so rich.

HotRodLincoln ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 14:16:31 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Interestingly, the human eye can discern around 10 million colors, if you happen to be really rich.

That's around 27,400 years worth of shirts to do it right.

shadycthulu ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 18:23:25 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Dont do this. Some guy did this woth socks. New clothes have residue coating from wherever the hell theyre made. Gives you a rash if you constantly have it on you

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ TheLimewedge ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 18:26:09 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Good call. If I could figure out how to wash them all once workout the colors running, I could probably avoid this.

shadycthulu ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 18:43:46 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Its a dope ass idea though. Its one of those videos you'd find with sick ass editing and find on every media outlet

ImJustRick ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 20:01:51 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

It would be easier to just color-correct a still image of him wearing a white t-shirt 365 times.

OP, I'll do it for you if you wanna see what it would look like.

KingDarkBlaze ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 20:51:49 on November 14, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I want to see

JimJamieJames ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 18:24:54 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

First off I love this. OP, I wonder if this "all-over" t-shirt printing would work.

[deleted] ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 19:21:45 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Okay, this is the best Crazy Idea I have read, and for the life of me, I don't know why.

Seriously, a creative Kickstarter campaign would absolutely get funded. For $25, you get one of the t-shirts.

Do it. I am in.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ TheLimewedge ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 20:30:11 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I'm actually going to try to flesh this idea out. If I have the shirts away as donation rewards, I could solve the two problems of what do I provide as legitimate rewards and what do I do with 365 shirts next year. This is a good idea.

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 22:35:58 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Just PM me when you are up and running... I am in!

365 days of flipbook picture T-shirts.

BeerPowered ยท 4 points ยท Posted at 23:13:48 on June 4, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You don't need to be crazy rich to do this. $500 should be more than enough for that. Cool stuff.

Proxystarkilla ยท 10 points ยท Posted at 01:09:58 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

That'd be less than 2 dollars a shirt.

BeerPowered ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:53:05 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

That's how much plain shirts cost. Just might get difficult to acquire all the colors.

Daggertrout ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 01:48:19 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Bulk discount.

BoneHead777 ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 02:56:44 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You don't really get bulk discount for 365 different items. Unless you're buying white and color them yourself that is.

ekaceerf ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 22:29:08 on June 4, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

this is a amazing idea.

PapaPetro ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 00:38:00 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Sounds like such a fun idea but so much work to execute... perfect for this sub!

SquidLoaf ยท 2 points ยท Posted at 01:09:16 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Crazy rich? You can get a plain colored t-shirt for $5. What's 5 x 365? I might not even have to get a loan for this!

BoneHead777 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:55:44 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The problem is, good luck finding all the right colors. Most places where you can buy shirts have 10, maybe 20 base colors if you're lucky. You're going to order around 350 custom ones, and that costs. The cheapest way would be to buy white ones in bulk and color them yourself, as others have said

Its been a while... but this is an amazing crazy idea.

LeaveTheMatrix ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 01:35:33 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

People often think I wear the same color shirt, can I help it I have a closet of plain black shirts?

broscientologist ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:39:14 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The sorties paradox

Black6x ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:17:24 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I plan to do this if I ever reach crazy-rich status.

Or you could just go shop at Old Navy, where $100 will get you 200 shirts,

Ez_Duzit ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:51:08 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

He needs the exact same shirt in 365 unique colors.. I'd guess about 1k min to do it right

chriswen ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:26:30 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Someone needs to design the shirt so I can buy it. You could do a 4 month rotation to make it more affordable. And I would recommend it being like a polo so it'd be a bit nicer. And it should go through nice shirt colours.

And a cool idea would be a co-op where you'd loan out a bunch of shirts to people (for a fee). An awesome business opportunity. And everyone gets a chance to do this.

punkmuppet ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 11:56:09 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

That would be amazing, imagine your whole office doing it, cycling a month apart, and only your bus is out of the loop.

Ghostwoif123 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:31:25 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

this is seriously a genius idea, not a crazy one!

GiantSpaceWhale ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 03:59:53 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Duuuuuuuuuuuude this is an awesome idea!!

zBriGuy ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 04:27:06 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

If someone were to mix shirt dyes to mix the colors to do so, what would the ratios be?

[deleted] ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 04:27:36 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Poor man's solution: Photoshop 365 photos wearing a bright color that's easily selected and altered. You could probably automate the task. So all you really need to do is take the photos.

jisc ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 04:39:01 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Go kickstart it I will donate.

FatherEarth ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 04:42:32 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

And where are you going to find 365 different colors?

geoman2k ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 05:11:27 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

couldn't you do this with a lot less than 365 shirts and just a really clever ink dying schedule? seems like that would make it even cooler.

shmegegy ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 05:47:21 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

who are you that people pay so much attention to what you wear?

redeyeddragon ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:45:25 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

belchium ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 05:53:26 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Is there anywhere online that sells high quality t-shirts in a range of plain colors? Not necessarily 365 different colors, but a selection of 10 or so colors would be nice.

cromulent_word ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 06:38:44 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The only bad thing about this is that so many of the colours are eye poison.

kasar7133 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:06:10 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I want to do this so badly now. Damn...

oh_no__notagain ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 07:41:01 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

zim2411 ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 13:56:11 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

They did something similar in the Silent Hill movie. They had over 100 different shades of Rose's outfit that would subtly change between scenes. It's unnoticeable until you compare screenshots from different sections of the movie. Earlier vs Later.

Aerik ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:10:40 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

this is what it would feel like to be immortal and being around evolving animals, but still with the mental capacities of a normal person. Some modern non immortal person would ask you what the animals looked like millions of years ago, and you'd say they looked exactly the same.

buckygrad ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:27:30 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

You need to be "crazy rich" to buy 365 shirts? No - just have around $7K to blow for worthless internet attention.

ice-king ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 15:57:36 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I actually want to do this now...

noobloid ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 17:53:28 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

In the meantime, how about doing it with a shirt which you wash to fade if it's even possible to do that. I feel like the shirt will rip before it fades. Bleach? I dont know what im saying. I suck at laundry.

i-make-robots ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 23:48:25 on July 21, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

I'd have to number them so I get the order right. On the plus side, I'd never wear the same shirt twice in a year so there's a chance it would be clean the second time around.

enfenry ยท 1 points ยท Posted at 02:41:19 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

Plethorian ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 01:41:56 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

52 would work. You could do this on your own with dye - 52 or 365. Ballcaps would work too.

green_meklar ยท 0 points ยท Posted at 01:44:13 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

This is actually kinda brilliant. I don't know where I'd store 365 shirts, though.

Also I wonder how long it would take people to realize that your shirts have been changing colors...

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ TheLimewedge ยท 3 points ยท Posted at 03:17:17 on June 5, 2014 ยท (Permalink)

The shirts would be so close in color the difference would be imperceptible. People who see me every day would assume I'm erasing the same shirt because it would be almost identical to the day before. Similar to how you don't notice your friends aging until you see pictures from years ago.
