This is very similar to the plot of an episode of Masters of Horror: Pick Me Up.
On a two-lane highway, two serial killers clash in a turf war: one is named Wheeler (Michael Moriarty) who kills hitchhikers he picks up in his truck, and the other is named Walker (Warren Kole) who is a hitchhiker who murders whoever gives him a ride. Stacia (Fairuza Balk), a recently divorced woman, falls in between the battle of wits.
Imprint is my absolute favorite of the series. It doesn't get shown on TV because of how ridiculously extreme it is, but I think it's still on Netflix and there just aren't too many other movies that have ever made me feel quite as dirty after watching them.

I really like the detail they put into that scene. The way the car stops and bathes the guy in red, the way the red mist slowly escapes from the trunk with the body inside, and the steering wheel with the guy's hand touching the red part.

Bedeviled is the one that takes place on that island, right? Saw it about 6 months back. I didn't really care for it, personally. It was an interesting concept but the movie just dragged on and on for me. Probably my least favorite Korean movie I've seen. Granted, I haven't seen a ton but I've seen my fair share. But this is just my opinion. I've heard people say good things about it so maybe I'm in the minority.
The topic reminds me, though. I need to watch The Good, The Bad, and The Weird.
[deleted] · 1 points · Posted at 14:54:54 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
Yeah, the payoff is definitely worth watching. And even though it was the worst Korean movie I've yet seen, it's still nowhere near the level of the worst US movie that I've seen. I'd probably give it a 5-6 out of 10.
And I've been meaning to watch TGTB&TW but never got around to it. I've got a copy of it on my HD though and will probably give it a watch this weekend. Haven't heard a single bad thing about it.
ppopjj · 2 points · Posted at 07:53:25 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
I didn't like The Host as much as I Saw the Devil, but Oldboy is one of my favorites.
Whilst I can see the similarities, I don't think this is quite what OP had in mind. Soo-hyun wasn't a serial killer, he was a secret service agent. He only goes on the rampage when Choi Min-sik's character (sorry, forgot his name) kills his fiance. It's just a revenge type story, similar to that of "Taken" but a bit more extreme.
Albeit it's definitely worth a watch, one of my favorite films of all time.
EDIT: Don't worry, I'm dumb. He meant a certain scene, not the whole film.
He's referring to the cab scene, where Choi Min-sik's character, the serial killer cab driver, picks up the serial killer by the side of the road, then also picks up Soo-hyun.
bokbok · 1 points · Posted at 12:32:11 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
I thought the cop had hired the cabbies to kill him but I guess this makes sense seeing how he keeps dragging the thing on.
I love the Ramsey Brothers. The Interrogator is by far my favorite.
chime · 17 points · Posted at 06:26:46 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
This is a weird coincidence. There's another set of Ramsay Brothers in India who are very famous for making horror films. They're spelled 'ay' instead of 'ey'.
[deleted] · 7 points · Posted at 10:32:24 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
Ramsey Brothers made first Indian Zombie film iirc with chump change for budget, a govt.guest house for location and their relatives as cast.
I'd like to see a movie where that's the opening scene and then they go on a killing spree together. Or maybe it then switches perspective to some hapless victims and this duo are the villains.

Believe it or not, my friends and I just made it for a final project in our film class.
Starts with a serial killer who picks people up on the side of the road and kills them. He sees a guy in the middle of the night, picks him up, but he happens to be a serial killer who kills the people that pick him up.
They both get in the car and are driving along when BAM they get a flat tire from a nail in the road. They see a motel in the distance, and it just so happens that the motel owner is a serial killer who kills the people that stay at his hotel. So now it's three serial killers, all trying to kill each other, none of which know the other two are serial killers themselves.
It was really fun to make.

So what happens at the end!?!?!?
[deleted] · 12 points · Posted at 07:04:46 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
There's really only two options really...they all die or they all live.
Or the good looking one picks up a bear skin rug at the store and a marvin gaye album, stokes up his bedroom fire until it's sexy and then lures the two female killers into his boudoir where they realise how bad they want it after focusing on murder all day.
Clothes get ripped off, one girl has an amazing rack and the other has the phattest ass and they all just start at it, they're drinking wine off each others bodies, one of them is dripping wax onto the others, the dude practically glistens with his cut physique as he takes turns absolutely ploughing these girls.
Suddenly theres blood everywhere and the dude is screaming, he's staring at his missing arm of which only the mangled stump remains as you hear an unmistakable roar of a bear as it rises up from the ground holding his arm in its mouth.
It swipes and gouges rack girl on the back of her leg while stepping on cut dude and biting out his throat. The two girls run out of the room, rack girl stumbling as the giant bear bursts through the wall of the motel and bear hugs her from behind leaving a gloriously long scene of her incredible rack as the girl with the hot ass who is much better to watch when it flips to bear eye view chase cam has a hectic scene of running and sliding under a row of parked cars. One by one the bear knocks them aside hunting for her with its collosal strength.
She manages climbing up into the drivers seat of one towards the end of the row, but no keys but then she sees a lighter and has an idea.. she runs out to the smashed up cars that the bear knocked out of the way with big bear booty cam following and suddenly boom. Pan out and the bear is on fire, the girl with the phat ass is standing at the end of a trail of fuel from a broken car and then all these native american ghosts start pouring out of the bear and swirling up into the sky as huge explosions happen from the wrecked cars.
She gets into her car still shaking and drives home. She suffers flash backs in dreams of the bear over and over. Ends on a scene set an unknown amount of time later where she's holding a pregnancy test, it's positive, soft bear growl. Fade to black.
Oh it's not that impressive of a movie. We're high school seniors so it's hilariously inexperienced-looking.
It's about 10 minutes long. I can talk to my friend and see if he'll upload it if you guys actually want to see it. But be warned: it's nothing phenomenal. Our idea was the best part of the movie haha.
Wow. Believe it or not, I'd never seen that before. I didn't write the script or come up with the idea. I did a bit of acting and some post work.
Didn't realize it had been done before. Not trying to steal anything from anyone.
I sent him this thread because i thought it was funny we'd come up with the same idea. Haha

This reminds me of the part in Chuck Klosterman's "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs" where he talks about the stories he heard about hitchhiking as a kid:
My fourth-grade teacher told our class that we should never hitchhike, because the only people who picked up hitchhikers were perverted serial killers. This advice was complicated by what my fifth-grade teacher told us the following year; she said we would all have our driver's licenses in a few years, and the one rule we always needed to remember was to never pick up hitchhikers. This was because all hitchhikers were serial killers. According to what I learned in public school, every person on every freeway was trolling for destruction. I used to imagine nomadic sadistic drifters waiting for the first opportunity to kill each other.
Has Rob Schneider been in anything recently? I think the most recent movie I saw with him was Benchwarmers. Although I think he's been in a few since then that were just complete shit, but I can't think of anything in the past few years.
I hate romantic movies. Part of the reason I can't watch most movies anymore... even with non-romance movies they always squeeze in a shitty sub-plot romantic interest and it makes me want to shoot myself in the head.
Does anyone remember the name of a movie about a female hitchhiking serial killer who at the end of the movie gets into someones car and as he drives away you see a bunch of body parts and realize it is a hitchhiker serial killer?
[deleted] · 3 points · Posted at 13:55:42 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)

I think a serious version could be good too. Imagine two serial killers with cabins in the same remote stretch of forest but oblivious to each other until the events in the film. They'd be reticent to charge in because it's neither of their strengths, so you'd see them probing forward to find an assured advantage. It could turn into protracted battles of cover/traps/psychology, with each killer stalking and trying to ensnare the other using their own unique style. Imagine two Arnolds from Terminator pitted against each other, but each is distinctly different from the other in methods and character.
I'm not sure what the catalyzing event would be. Maybe both killers happen to be in the area at the same time (when previously their schedules never overlapped). Then one of them screws up and the person they captured audibly yells. The killer assures them that no one is around, but then notices distant smoke in the trees (from a cabin) for the first time. He locks the person up (who will remain alive through the duration of the movie - establishing an interesting third perspective) and goes to investigate - to head off a possible alert going out. (No phone or cell service, so someone would have to drive to a town to raise an alarm.)
Meanwhile, the other killer heard the scream and realizes that there's somebody out there. Defensive at first, he decides to probe outward to take find and eliminate the threat, if needed.
They don't cross paths and manage to find the other's cabin. Upon realizing the owner is not there, finding signs inside that the resident is a killer, and inferring that they left to kill the other person, they double back to their own place. From there the fight begins and plays out over the course of the movie. I won't tell you my ending or the specifics. I'll let you imagine your own version. It seems like it could make for an interesting story/film.
I know others have mentioned movies and TV and YouTube videos, but there is a rather well written book that discusses this same topic. If I could remember the name...
[deleted] · 2 points · Posted at 11:43:52 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
I used to pick up hitchhikers. One day a rather rough looking dude gets into the car and I asked him if he was a serial killer. When he said no I said good....only one allowed in the car at a time. The look on his face was priceless.
THIS ALREADY EXISTS!! For the live of me I can't seem to find it, but here is what I remember - I believe it was one story out of several, and that the film was something akin to "creepshow" or something...
The hitchhiker took for trophies the license plates, and the driver the signs of the hitchhikers he has killed.
I think it was in a dessert area, but i'm not sure. Can't seem to find it..
EDIT: It's the My Generation episode of Strange Frequency...so..not a film per se.
The song kind of sucks IMO, but the video concept is similar to your premise. Of the duo, one plays a "minister" that goes around to houses pretending to be an evangelist but instead he kills its residents. The other keeps having people come to his house (e.g. delivery men), then kills them. In the end, the minister comes to the other guy's house.
This was great because in the one I'm talking about the two serial killers meet a third. Pretty sure the segment was called "My Generation" because they were all different ages.
Remember seeing this. Saw the title and thought 'its been done'

teeIam · 1 points · Posted at 04:57:31 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
Or a subtle variation: Killer is trying to kill some people thinking he is the scariest thing in the situation. Meanwhile, another killer is trying to kill that killer, not knowing he is trying to murder other people.
I actually had this exact idea a few weeks ago, but for an online short, not a feature. I've only told one person about it, and I'm guessing you're probably not my brother.
Is no one interested in a realism meets metamodern take on this trope? I see many people desirous of strict genre adherence, like buddy serial killers. I was thinking more updated Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer or Joyce Carol Oates' Zombie with Italo Calvino bent.
Devout · 1 points · Posted at 11:07:38 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
I've wondered if there is a movie about the filming of a movie where the actors slowly discover that none of the effects are special, they really did just cut that guys arm off.
"Um...look, I know I said before that I was all right taking turns, but it just seems like I am going to be way too dead to do anything when it's my turn."
"But we agreed to do this according to seniority. I have for sure been at this longer than you, kid, ergo I go first. Hand me that tourniquet, hmm? You're bleeding like a prom queen here."
There's a short, free story on Amazon called Serial. It is divided into three sections:
1. One where it shows a serial killer that picks up and kills hitchhikers.
2. A hitchhiker who kills the people they pick up.
3. They meet.
It's a short, twisted and fun read.
There was a movie called Strange Frequency I think which was a bunch of short Twilight Zone/Outer Limits-esque movies. One of the scenes was about a guy who murders Hitchhikers and picks up a serial killer. I would post an imdb link if I wasn't on a broken smartphone.

On top of that they run into each other because a shady character manipulated their travel arrangements. He's the guy at the rental car counter or the pump jockey at the gas station. The entire movie, these two killers have this epic showdown of murder and the final scene the winner walks away and runs into the shady character(in another disguise of course) who then proceeds to subtly set him up to run into another badass murderer.

Good concept expand on it more and get a script done you have the staring blocks of what could potentially be a good film.
the entire movie should be intense like 2 cats about to duke it out. lot of infra-perceptible intimidation escalating into full on intimidation ...one move of bravado and they both go their separate way. it happens in a single location: inside the car. i like to watch crazy films.
Bf and I came up with two starring actors that we would totally watch in this plot: Christoph Waltz and Bill Nighy. Both have the right amount of badass vs. hilarity.

I watched that film along with The Host(not the twilight movie), and Oldboy. If you haven't caught those Korean classics either, make sure to add the. To your list as well.

The ant scene is fucked up yes, but e its the only one of its kind.
You should give it a try, but only when you are in a neutral mood, watching it while happy or down is not a good idea.

Came to the comments to mention this. The whole movie is intravenous badassery, but that scene was especially cool.
What are some other good Korean thrillers? I loved the Vengeance trilogy as well.
Lord_Nicolas_Cage · 1 points · Posted at 12:04:57 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)*
Fleudian · 3 points · Posted at 12:19:37 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
He's referring to the cab scene, where Choi Min-sik's character, the serial killer cab driver, picks up the serial killer by the side of the road, then also picks up Soo-hyun.
bokbok · 1 points · Posted at 12:32:11 on April 5, 2014 · (Permalink)
I thought the cop had hired the cabbies to kill him but I guess this makes sense seeing how he keeps dragging the thing on.

Twiztid - Hahahahaha
The song kind of sucks IMO, but the video concept is similar to your premise. Of the duo, one plays a "minister" that goes around to houses pretending to be an evangelist but instead he kills its residents. The other keeps having people come to his house (e.g. delivery men), then kills them. In the end, the minister comes to the other guy's house.

Adding to the "this has been done before" list. VH-1 did an underrated horror (quadrilogy?) called "Strange Frequency" back in 2001.
Seriously, for a straight to video horror flick it was really quite good (at least in terms of story) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274906/
This was great because in the one I'm talking about the two serial killers meet a third. Pretty sure the segment was called "My Generation" because they were all different ages.

That would be a short movie, but I would definitely watch it.

Or a subtle variation: Killer is trying to kill some people thinking he is the scariest thing in the situation. Meanwhile, another killer is trying to kill that killer, not knowing he is trying to murder other people.

Make it like a serial killer war kinda thing, where they keep trying to save each other's victims while killing their own.

Is no one interested in a realism meets metamodern take on this trope? I see many people desirous of strict genre adherence, like buddy serial killers. I was thinking more updated Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer or Joyce Carol Oates' Zombie with Italo Calvino bent.

There's a short, free story on Amazon called Serial. It is divided into three sections: 1.

The entire movie, these two killers have this epic showdown of murder and the final scene the winner walks away and runs into the shady character(in another disguise of course) who then proceeds to subtly set him up to run into another badass murderer.

the entire movie should be intense like 2 cats about to duke it out. lot of infra-perceptible intimidation escalating into full on intimidation ...one move of bravado and they both go their separate way. it happens in a single location: inside the car. i like to watch crazy films.
