Everyone's gotta report on the president. He's a major figure in world politics, and he does some ridiculous stuff. It's unavoidable unless you work in a field that's almost totally unrelated to world news, like sports journalism. Even then it might come up if politics and sports collide, as they sometimes do.

Really? I didn't know morning hosts have to be there that many hours early. Makes sense then. I remember I used to work 10pm-7am and when I got home I'd start drinking. My roommates would make fun of me but I was like "It's 5pm for me :( we're in different timezones right now".
Good rule of thumb: If you see them on screen, they've been there at least 3 hours.
Actual crew might be there around 2 or 3 for the 6am broadcast.

Makeup, walk through of the content, and any other prep necessary. They also do a live studio look before the show starts to get you to stay on the network. Plus knowing your star/host is there early certainly puts your mind at ease.

I don't watch American Dad so I didn't even know that I was responding to a reference haha. Yeah, it's called Kathie Lee and Hoda. Apparently people on Reddit hate it? I like it more than other morning shows though from what I've seen. It's just them being dorks and it has a fun, light "airy" vibe to it. I've only watched it a handful of times but after googling it they really do have wine in every single google image picture haha.
For a long time I thought the episode about MMJ (you know, where Hailey loves it and Stan loves it more) wasn't real and then I found out MMJ was real...
What I'm wondering is why this happened. It's obviously his job to promote the mug, and her job is...? Probably to not to be a dick right? Anyway, I laughed why am I complaining.
I think the point is that it suctions or adheres to the table. It sticks well enough to take a small bump but a mechanism allows it to be removed straight up.

Also, if the thing is sealed shut, why does it matter if it can fall over? It's literally DESIGNED to be handled that way. The whole concept of this mug is pointless.
The mug is fine and a good idea, it's just dishonest marketing. If they called it 'the mug that is resistant to toppling when you bump it slightly with your forearm when reaching for your mouse" it would be a great product.
Also, wouldn't it be really easy to design a mug that actually wouldn't fall over simply by weighting the bottom and making it a half-sphere like one of those Weebly Wobbly baby toys? Basically a tippy cup for adults. Seems a much better design.

Also, if you've ever spilled something, it wasn't because you lightly tapped it (in those situations you could just grab it as it tilts over). Usually when you spill something you're reaching for something on the other side of the table and knock it the hell down because you go all the way through with your movement.

I am finding out that both that and the opposite of jumping as hard as you can from the edge yet still not making the jump seems to be the basis of crash bandicoot. I definitely would have rage quit these games as a kid if we had them.
That's what the mug was designed to prevent: those situations where you have to grab a mug to keep it from falling over when you've tapped it. The mug is supposed to make those situations a little bit easier and a little bit less stressful, since it takes care of itself, and if you were trying to keep a toddler from falling off a chair they've suddenly climbed up on, for example, you can remain focused on the safety of the child (or whatever you were focused on in the first place) without dividing your attention to prevent the mug from falling. The design of the mug is fine, and actually quite useful. The crappy design is the marketing campaign, for lying about the mug's capabilities. It's a bullshit claim, and it detracts from the mugs appeal.

It's not really a scam it's just exaggerated. It has a suction on the bottom that prevents it from falling over when you push it a bit. It's kinda neat and would work well on a plane or train of if you nudge it by accident, but won't work if you really shove it.
I actually had one where there was this flap that would slide open and shut. I suppose I didn't think that some could be made a little differently.

Yeah those flaps are meant to stop it from splashing upward, not to make an air tight seal when it falls. Stuff will still leak out in most cheaper ones.
My point is, the cup is sealed so that you don't lose everything when it tips. Sure, some will leak, but not nearly as bad as if it was a glass or something.

I have a mighty mug and it's actually really good. It's not designed to be punched hard, but if you knock the mug it doesn't fall over.
The original gif in this picture happens when it gets dusty/dirty on the bottom. You just need to run it under a tap and dry it and it starts working fine again.

Honestly I've never considered accidental spills to be common enough that I had to sit down and think "if only there were an invention that would elleviate this issue."

I also like the brand avex. Pretty similar to contigo but has some nice features like locking lid and rubber bottom so it doesn't slide/make a loud noise when you put it down. I like cups.

There's nothing wrong with that statement. Its saying that it works on any flat surfaces and that most desks are flat surfaces. The reason they use most is that some desks might not be completely flat, like if it has cracks for artistic purposes.
I have one of these, it totally works. If any kind of dirt or debris gets on the suction device, it won't work at all. You have to brush it off first. I'm guessing since this is a store model, it's dirty AF.
Yeah, the outer section is like a sleeve over the rest of the cup. When you pull straight up on it it releases a little valve that lets air into the suction cup.
When my wife and I were getting married, we decided to do our registry in Macy's. We were walking around the China section, and I came across these wine glasses, that said "unbreakable". Naturally, I spiked one in the floor. Needless to say, it shattered, and my wife got very mad at me.

Given that it's a store display model the suction cup in the bottom has probably been beaten to shit. I've got MightyMugs and my girlfriend has one and they work perfectly fine on flat surfaces.
Wife spills her drinks so much so that I have to treat her like a kid: no drinks allowed anywhere except at the dinner table.
Bought her two of these and I swear they have yet to fail.
Disclaimer: they need to be used on smooth flat surfaces for the suction cup to work, but as long as that's the type of surfaces you have, then you're golden.

It's a bit of a stretch, but you could take the claim as "the mug that won't fall over when other mugs would" and take that to imply an uneven or sloped surface that's beyond the level at which a normal mug would fall over.
I think assuming the surface has enough flat space to accomodate the suction cup, that this claim would be true.
Put it this way. You could stick one of these onto a coffee table and move that table around the room or even tip it upsidedown and the mug will not fall off thanks to the suction cup. But if you slam it's side it'll topple over

The definition of "falling over" is debatable in this situation. Nothing ever "falls over" without a cause. If I accidentally smack the cup and it falls, it's still me pushing the cup. So, did it "fell" or did I "push it"?
But really, both things happened. I pushed it and it fell. It fell because I pushed it.
If it's past 45 degree's it's not by any definition standing. So if the argument is that it's falling "over", that's not the case as there's no tipping point for it to go "over.

My car's cup holders are the stupidest flimsiest most precariously perched square cupholders youve ever seen. If I bought this cup my car would be like - 'challenge accepted'.
It's a lot harder to tip over. I have to push mine quite hard to get it to let go and fall. It also only really works on surfaces that suction cups would normally work on.
I know this is a joke, but also, it isn't just a suction cup at the bottom
It's a pretty neat mechanism where there's a seal that is broken if you lift from the top, (sort of like an advanced version of putting your thumb on a straw and lifting liquid up with it, but when you let go, it'll drop the liquid out.)

Yeah, a tiny little deal that's capped by the weight of the cup, it has just enough room to release when you pick up the cup. Air flows in and the cup unsuctions
Not literally. It has a flat bottom that stays flat on the table and allows the cup to kinda move around it so, if you accidentally hit it with your elbow, the bottom will stay on the table when the rest of the cup moves, so it doesnt actually tip over.
I also have a Mighty Mug and it works great on every surface in my office. I can literally smack the hell out sideways and it won't tip over. Lifting straight up (and only straight up!) releases the vacuum and requires no more force than what it would take to lift a mug of the same mass.
really it depends on thr surface, my desk is textured si it doesnt grip so hard, but theres a glass door in my house that if i put the mug on it my 6 y/o cousin can hang off it

I can actually get mine to hang sideways off my desk at work since it's steel. Works best half-full so it's heavy enough to pull sideways on the suction but not enough to break the seal.
This one looks way better than the morning show/demonstration ones. BUT if it only functions well out of the box and not after being used then it's kind of useless.
I wonder how good it is though, this video makes it look legit.
Not saying regular use with occasional hits would wear it out fast or anything- just that something that's out in a store as a display model typically gets a lot more beat up because most people who try using it are pushing it to its extremes.
I've had one for a while and it works quite well. If the bottom gets dirty it starts faltering a little and it kinda works better once it has liquid in it as well. If you apply a constant push to mine it tends to tip over but it can handle a bump most of the time.

In any case, any time I've tipped over something it wasn't due to a slight graze but a full on accident swipe or jerk of my arm that would have surely knocked these things over.

I have one of these and this GIF isn't a good representation. I think it must be the cardboard display it's on, which isn't flat and rigid. On any table it will EASILY withstand what the person is doing here. It actually takes a significant amount of force to knock it over when it's on a table. A light bump or brush wouldn't even phase it.
This might be a different brand, but a friend had one on board a submarine we served on (Varying angles as much as 30 degrees at a time) and it actually worked VERY well. You could push it's top and it wouldn't budge, the only way to move it was to actually lift. It did fail at something like a 42 degree incline though, because of the gravity, at that point it was hardly sitting in the suction cup base properly.
Most people had one of these or similar. Usually have some soft grippy rubber on the bottom (like that semi sticky shit people put in kitchen cabinets) and a lid with a valve to prevent a spill even in case of a tumble. I've never seen one budge from anything less than a full on slap. The ones they sell near Norfolk are about 2 lbs empty.
I have the Mighty Mug and it's works insanely well. There were time, when I was first getting used to it, where I grabbed the mug to pull it towards me and the mug wouldn't move.
Can kind of confirm. Was in the navy and our ship would list pretty bad some times. One guy in our shop had something similar and while every one else's mugs were sliding around his stayed put.
It didn't fall over, you pushed it over. Cup is designed to withstand light bumps obviously.

That's not really how it works, your finger will always experience an equal and opposite force.
I have one of these. There is a circular 'crack' about a third of the way up, where the mug's top sections sits in the bottom. If you lift it directly up the crack opens a little and allows air access into a suction cup underneath. However if you exert sideways 'tipping' force the crack remains closed and the suction is maintained. It honestly works very well and I've deliberately punched it a few times without spilling it to show it off. Hit it with all your might like Kathy Lee did and you'll beat the vacuum, it's not made by NASA

It's a marketing slogan. "The mug that won't fall over with minor everyday bumps and nudges" doesn't flow as well. Slogans are to catch people's attention, not to include all possible qualifiers and caveats. You can see those when you investigate the item further.

Honestly I can't understand what the majority of this thread thinks the mug is supposed to do. Create an equal and opposite force against any push somehow? The OP pushes it all the way over until it's already sideways. That's not just a casual bump, like it's meant for.

So it should arguably be posted in /r/falseadvertisementbutonlyifyoureanidiot. You're essentially only going to be satisfied with this thing if it has magical powers. The design is fine. The ad's claim is technically incorrect, but it makes no difference to the practical use of the product.
I wouldn't really call it false advertising, because usually false advertising isn't so flimsily paper-thin that it only takes a harsh nudge to see through. I just wonder if salespeople have to explain to potential customers, "no, we don't actually mean literally" every time they knock one over sarcastically. Building a stumbling-block into your product's presentation isn't great design, especially if you encourage people to stumble over it on your poster by saying 'try it.'
But I also wonder if this one is empty. I'll bet it's less prone to tipping if its full.

I have one. I give it a good slap every once in a while for entertainment. Still doesn't fall over. Just need to clean the suction cup at the bottom every once in a while and make sure it's on the right surface.
Yes son.. I was bringing milk home too until I tipped my hot coffee over in the car, causing an accident inside the tunnel and that's why I couldn't just come back. I needed to invent the non-fall tumbler so that no one else would ever be in danger again.
They do. I used to see them all the time 20-30 years ago. They even had a kinda rubberized surface on the bottom. You would probably need to pick it up and dump it out to make it spill.
Owned one of these and the suction cup base is strong enough that I could place it on the side of my fridge and it would just stay there. Problem is it's no good on surfaces that aren't flat, otherwise it's perfect for work if you've ever known the drama that follows spilled tea.
I'm pretty sure it won't fall over if you accidentally nudge it while not paying attention which is why most mugs fall over. No shit it will fall over if you apply constant force at the highest point, it would have to be attached to the damn table to not fall over. The point is to have extra grip so that under normal circumstances it doesn't get nudged and fall over, which is very useful.

I have one of these from Mighty Mug. Not sure which brand is the knock-off but mine looks identical to the one in the GIF.
Anyways, I got it as a gift 2-3 years ago and it actually works very well unlike what is shown here. Maybe there's some debris under the mechanism or that cardboard display (which bends easily) doesn't acculturate simulate 99% of tables I've ever put my Mighty Mug on.
With the mug empty it can easily withstand what the person is doing here. It would require even more force, to the point that the mug is leaning over with the suction cup quite stretched. With the mug full, it holds on even better.
It's a conversation starter with anyone who sees it, and mine's still in great condition even after using it nearly everyday for the last few years. It's honestly been the best gift I've received in a long time.
Misleading. The mug stays still if you hit it quickly (which is how accidents happen). It will tip if you slowly push it over; that's how the mug lets you pick it up.
I have this mug. I also have the wine and pint glasses. They work 95% of the time. Though that 5% has resulted in spilled coffee.

expertise: Work at a desk job and have countless hours to analyze while working.
If you notice the mug has those lines which is part of the suction cup. The cup when rested pushes down and completes the suction. While lifting up it up it release. Its kind of a cup inside a cup. As long as you lift from above the lines its releases the suction. Only issue is there is a rubber ring on the bottom that needs to be occasionally shaped and free of dust. When you first take them out of the box you need to round them out which is why this one fell so easily. Also the weight of the liquid puts pressure on the suction seal (?) and helps.
I love mine. If you bump it, it stays upright. If you put steady pressure in that spot, which lifts it from the base, the suction cup will release and it will tip.
Misleading gif, it's a pretty decent cup. The lid is nice, seals decent and is nice to drink from. Got mine half off, I'm happy with it.
Wondering if the rubber underneath is worn out from everyone at the store trying it out. I actually bought one of these because it works. I can slap it several times consecutively before it 'degrips.' Of course, extreme force is going to be a bit much for it. Overall, I believe it's meant for accidental hits which would prevent it from falling over, i.e. having it on a desk and you swing your arm around forgetting that you have it there.
Well to be fair, it does claim to be a mug which doesn't accidentally fall over, rather than a mug which uses The Force against anything trying to move it from a vertical position...

Owns a similar mug. It makes a difference whether the mug is empty. If you have liquid inside, it works quite well with the added weight inside, kind of like a roly-poly toy. When it's empty, it doesn't function as intended, which is fine since you can't spill an empty mug.
The product is fine. You guys are retarded. Of course if you purposefully push it all the way onto it's side then it's going to lay down. It's designed to withstand realistic situations where it gets bumped.
I own 3 of those and they work pretty well. Thing is they only work on non-porous surfaces since it's a suction cup doing the work and you need to make sure that the bottom isn't dirty so it sticks properly. With that taken care of, they work really well. It saved my work keyboard quite a few times.
So I have a similar model. I put it down once outside my work bathroom, on top of the water cooler.
I walked out and swiped at my mug, and immediately noticed that it felt... heavier than usual. Suddenly, a huge white piece of plastic crashed to the ground and skittered down the hall, smashing into the leg of my manager, making a horrendous clatter.
I took the top right off the water cooler and sent it down the hallway with one swipe... people looked at me like I had just entered a murderous rage and threw it in anger. Awkward.

I have a mug that has this property apparently. I did not know about it before I bought.
It is not like it is glued to the surface but it really helps with regards to spillage. When you hit it accidentally with your hand, arm or with some object on the table, it stands its ground well. Saved my ass many times as I am a clumsy person in general.

My coworker got one and we all took turns trying to knock it over. Some of them actually work really well, but if the force to knock it over is even slightly angled up it will fall.
I've got one of them. It actually works well when the only force being applied is am accidental nudge.
When people spend all day forcefully trying to push over the display model it breaks the seal that the bottom creates and obviously won't work anymore.

I own one of these myself. They do work, provided that (1) there is no debris on the suction cup, and (2) the surface is flat and dry. You have to push pretty hard to force it over, in my experience (though I was reluctant to try, because it always contained my coffee).
A roly-poly toy, round-bottomed doll, tilting doll, tumbler or wobbly man is a toy that rights itself when pushed over. The bottom of a roly-poly toy is round, roughly a hemisphere. Many roly-poly toys are hollow, with a weight inside the bottom. They have a center of mass below the center of the hemisphere, so that any tilting raises the center of mass.

Just put a bunch of glue on the bottom of the cup, place the cup on a desk or somewhere, wait 5-10 mins and you got your own cup that never falls over

so just a little about these mugs, I've created a few 3d models of these for infomercials and have played around with them a bit. not this brand though. I will say that they generally work pretty well. they do work better on some surfaces than others. this wood in the video should be fine though. this biggest problem I've encountered is dust and debris build up that gets stuck to the bottom over time will prevent it from properly suctioning to the surface. I imagine a public display like this will have that issue. I have placed a new one on a glass desk and put a lot of force on it and it wouldn't budge.
I hate these things. Everyone is always like "omg you can't knock this over watch!" And proceeds to give it the smallest of pushes. Like no shit it won't fall over with minimal pushing. If you hit anything hard enough it will fall over.

Makeup, walk through of the content, and any other prep necessary. They also do a live studio look before the show starts to get you to stay on the network. Plus knowing your star/host is there early certainly puts your mind at ease.

That's what the mug was designed to prevent: those situations where you have to grab a mug to keep it from falling over when you've tapped it. The mug is supposed to make those situations a little bit easier and a little bit less stressful, since it takes care of itself, and if you were trying to keep a toddler from falling off a chair they've suddenly climbed up on, for example, you can remain focused on the safety of the child (or whatever you were focused on in the first place) without dividing your attention to prevent the mug from falling. The design of the mug is fine, and actually quite useful. The crappy design is the marketing campaign, for lying about the mug's capabilities. It's a bullshit claim, and it detracts from the mugs appeal.

It's not really a scam it's just exaggerated. It has a suction on the bottom that prevents it from falling over when you push it a bit. It's kinda neat and would work well on a plane or train of if you nudge it by accident, but won't work if you really shove it.

Yeah those flaps are meant to stop it from splashing upward, not to make an air tight seal when it falls. Stuff will still leak out in most cheaper ones.

I have one of these, it totally works. If any kind of dirt or debris gets on the suction device, it won't work at all. You have to brush it off first. I'm guessing since this is a store model, it's dirty AF.

Yeah, the outer section is like a sleeve over the rest of the cup. When you pull straight up on it it releases a little valve that lets air into the suction cup.

It's a bit of a stretch, but you could take the claim as "the mug that won't fall over when other mugs would" and take that to imply an uneven or sloped surface that's beyond the level at which a normal mug would fall over.
I think assuming the surface has enough flat space to accomodate the suction cup, that this claim would be true.

It's a pretty neat mechanism where there's a seal that is broken if you lift from the top, (sort of like an advanced version of putting your thumb on a straw and lifting liquid up with it, but when you let go, it'll drop the liquid out.)

I can actually get mine to hang sideways off my desk at work since it's steel. Works best half-full so it's heavy enough to pull sideways on the suction but not enough to break the seal.

I had one a while ago and it's alright, but I really wouldn't trust the flip-top on the cap to stay on if it gets knocked over.
I got one of these afterwards and have knocked it over a few times near my PC, but the stopper never comes out. It's a bit more safe IMO.

I've had one for a while and it works quite well. If the bottom gets dirty it starts faltering a little and it kinda works better once it has liquid in it as well. If you apply a constant push to mine it tends to tip over but it can handle a bump most of the time.

Right, but the issue is that they market it as "never tip over", "can't tip over", "won't tip over", "untipable". Those are all misleading, it should simple be marketed as "tip resistant".

I have one of these and this GIF isn't a good representation. I think it must be the cardboard display it's on, which isn't flat and rigid. On any table it will EASILY withstand what the person is doing here. It actually takes a significant amount of force to knock it over when it's on a table. A light bump or brush wouldn't even phase it.

This might be a different brand, but a friend had one on board a submarine we served on (Varying angles as much as 30 degrees at a time) and it actually worked VERY well. You could push it's top and it wouldn't budge, the only way to move it was to actually lift. It did fail at something like a 42 degree incline though, because of the gravity, at that point it was hardly sitting in the suction cup base properly.

Most people had one of these or similar. Usually have some soft grippy rubber on the bottom (like that semi sticky shit people put in kitchen cabinets) and a lid with a valve to prevent a spill even in case of a tumble. I've never seen one budge from anything less than a full on slap. The ones they sell near Norfolk are about 2 lbs empty.

I have one of these. There is a circular 'crack' about a third of the way up, where the mug's top sections sits in the bottom. If you lift it directly up the crack opens a little and allows air access into a suction cup underneath. It's a marketing slogan. "The mug that won't fall over with minor everyday bumps and nudges" doesn't flow as well. Slogans are to catch people's attention, not to include all possible qualifiers and caveats. You can see those when you investigate the item further.

I wouldn't really call it false advertising, because usually false advertising isn't so flimsily paper-thin that it only takes a harsh nudge to see through. I just wonder if salespeople have to explain to potential customers, "no, we don't actually mean literally" every time they knock one over sarcastically. Building a stumbling-block into your product's presentation isn't great design, especially if you encourage people to stumble over it on your poster by saying 'try it.'
But I also wonder if this one is empty. I'll bet it's less prone to tipping if its full.

No shit it will fall over if you apply constant force at the highest point, it would have to be attached to the damn table to not fall over. I have one of these from Mighty Mug. Not sure which brand is the knock-off but mine looks identical to the one in the GIF.
Anyways, I got it as a gift 2-3 years ago and it actually works very well unlike what is shown here. Maybe there's some debris under the mechanism or that cardboard display (which bends easily) doesn't acculturate simulate 99% of tables I've ever put my Mighty Mug on.
With the mug empty it can easily withstand what the person is doing here. It would require even more force, to the point that the mug is leaning over with the suction cup quite stretched. With the mug full, it holds on even better.
It's a conversation starter with anyone who sees it, and mine's still in great condition even after using it nearly everyday for the last few years. It's honestly been the best gift I've received in a long time.

expertise: Work at a desk job and have countless hours to analyze while working.
If you notice the mug has those lines which is part of the suction cup. The cup when rested pushes down and completes the suction. While lifting up it up it release. Its kind of a cup inside a cup. As long as you lift from above the lines its releases the suction. Only issue is there is a rubber ring on the bottom that needs to be occasionally shaped and free of dust. When you first take them out of the box you need to round them out which is why this one fell so easily. Also the weight of the liquid puts pressure on the suction seal (?) and helps.

I love mine. If you bump it, it stays upright. If you put steady pressure in that spot, which lifts it from the base, the suction cup will release and it will tip.
Misleading gif, it's a pretty decent cup. The lid is nice, seals decent and is nice to drink from. Got mine half off, I'm happy with it.

Wondering if the rubber underneath is worn out from everyone at the store trying it out. I actually bought one of these because it works. I can slap it several times consecutively before it 'degrips.' Of course, extreme force is going to be a bit much for it. Overall, I believe it's meant for accidental hits which would prevent it from falling over, i.e. having it on a desk and you swing your arm around forgetting that you have it there.

Owns a similar mug. It makes a difference whether the mug is empty. If you have liquid inside, it works quite well with the added weight inside, kind of like a roly-poly toy. When it's empty, it doesn't function as intended, which is fine since you can't spill an empty mug.

I own 3 of those and they work pretty well. Thing is they only work on non-porous surfaces since it's a suction cup doing the work and you need to make sure that the bottom isn't dirty so it sticks properly. With that taken care of, they work really well. It saved my work keyboard quite a few times.

I have a mug that has this property apparently. I did not know about it before I bought.
It is not like it is glued to the surface but it really helps with regards to spillage. When you hit it accidentally with your hand, arm or with some object on the table, it stands its ground well. Saved my ass many times as I am a clumsy person in general.

Mean it's not crappy design it's just exaggerated marketing. You can tell by the video it at least resists falling over a little. Obviously if you apply enough force at the right spot it will tip. But it's not a bad design it's just not magically perfect like the ad sounds

I've got one of them. It actually works well when the only force being applied is am accidental nudge.

I bought one of these for my spill-prone grandma for christmas. It does work quite well and is designed nicely. Yes, if you push it hard enough, it will tip over but the point is that it won't fall over if you accidentally nudge it.

Dunno if anyone will care about the 376th comment, but I've seen a version of these cups/mugs in shops that work perfectly well. If you grip them and push down with brute force they'll fall over but on normal surfaces they'll stay up just fine.

I own one of these myself. They do work, provided that (1) there is no debris on the suction cup, and (2) the surface is flat and dry. You have to push pretty hard to force it over, in my experience (though I was reluctant to try, because it always contained my coffee).

I've seen this. It actually works, but you have to have a smooth, clean surface, because it uses suction, I believe.

Welp I invested the mug that does not fall over before them
Just put a bunch of glue on the bottom of the cup, place the cup on a desk or somewhere, wait 5-10 mins and you got your own cup that never falls over

so just a little about these mugs, I've created a few 3d models of these for infomercials and have played around with them a bit. not this brand though. I will say that they generally work pretty well. they do work better on some surfaces than others. this wood in the video should be fine though. this biggest problem I've encountered is dust and debris build up that gets stuck to the bottom over time will prevent it from properly suctioning to the surface. I imagine a public display like this will have that issue. I have placed a new one on a glass desk and put a lot of force on it and it wouldn't budge.

I hate these things. Everyone is always like "omg you can't knock this over watch!" And proceeds to give it the smallest of pushes. Like no shit it won't fall over with minimal pushing. If you hit anything hard enough it will fall over.
