Involuntary manslaughter was an option, but the prosecution heavily concentrated on the first degree murder charge. Also the definition of involuntary manslaugher is kind of confusing, and tighter than you would think. It's explained here:
Maybe the prosecutor could've gotten it though if he would've spent his time on convincing the jury why it was at least manslaughter. Instead he went all in on premeditated murder.

Casey Anthony actually did what she was charged of doing, but the prosecution just didnโt support the case well enough. The maximum sentence for the firearms charge is 10 years though. And I'm pretty sure the judge can take into account the whole situation in sentencing him (including the fact that someone died as a result of the incident), so he could very well get the max.
