Unbelievable that those filthy casual viewers have no clue about the origin of Reinhardts name. It's obviously based on the German Reichsprotector Reinhardt Heydrich, who resembles the show's character. Every time it flies over someone's head, I can't help myself and just have to point it out for them. Reinhardt and Mortimius exists solely for intellectuals. Is it that hard to understand?

You really do need to get into the mindset of the faggot atheist Redditor to understand why this show is so popular. These people have never heard of adult animation in their lifes that wasn't stuff like Family Guy, it was completely alien to them. And they can't laugh at these shows because they consider these shows stupid. They want a show that isn't necessarily smart or funny or well-written, but that appears to be to appeal to their surface-level taste. Because these people live for that mindless self-validation. They don't actually understand what makes for good writing or good comedy, nor have they ever picked a book about physics. They want to pretend they do so and circlejerk themselves, that's what matters. Rick and Morty is just perfect for its demographic: these same college-age self-important Bernouts who "fucking love science". The entire foundation of the show is built upon the dichotomy between "silly sci-fi humor and references" and " things are super deep and tragic bro". This pseudo-intellectual "nothing even matters, I'm insecure about existence, we are all going to die" bullshit that R&M shits out in almost every episode is what appeals to it's audience. The show doesn't actually have the tact to even begin to offer an interesting presentation and discussion of any philosophy, so it spouts these edgy teenage catchphrases. Nevermind the bean-headed, noodle-limbed unexpressive character design, or how the story is non-existent and only comes up when the writers beg you to feel something for these characters so devoid of substance, or how the entire show is a trendy forgettable scenario of the week memefest with just enough sci-fi references to trick kids into thinking they are smart for understanding them, or how the characters have somehow been reduced to even more obnoxious caricatures than before, none of these things matter. What matters is that it appeals to the millenial redditor audience, and that's what's selling Rick and Morty
As a fan I find this both obnoxious and correct. I just love Dan's writing, however flawed. Heres to him having a good TV take on Vonnegut, should be a good existential outlet.

Ugh, hate seeing this one. If Rick and Morty was for Smart people, the fanbase wouldn't be made of people that literally only Shitpost. Regardless, I know dumb as shit people who love the show, and wise-ass neckbeards who love the show. But who gives a fuck? I'm certain Dan Harmon (or Justin Roiland, whoever wrote it) knows their audience latches on to the dumb shit from the show and beats it to death, so they purposely wrote something as fucking stupid as that, knowing the fans would go psycho.
My theory is that he just remembered liking it, and needed a gimmick that people could chant. So he served a dual purpose of getting some for free ( source ) , and giving people that would not see another episode for a while something to muse on.

I mean they're pretty open that they just "shit out" (actual way Roiland described it) stuff that they think will work. At least they're not masquerading it as genius writing. Its absurdity is what makes the show so enjoyable and it's just a pillar to Harmon and Roiland's style of comedy, they've been doing this stuff for a long time.

Yep. I hear some dumbass quote in nearly every Reddit thread from Rick and Morty and it really made me not want to watch it.
Finally tried it a few days ago though, it's pretty good so far. I just have to distance myself from the fans or I'll end up fucking hating it like Doctor Who.
The show is a (probably intentional) infinite meme generator and is very fake-smart all the time, which is basically the perfect storm for a really annoying fandom.
Hussie is included as a fan in that because he acted like one in the writing
And the ending was hussie ending the comic to kill off the main character with 20 layers of meta yeah fuck that I liked the really cool slick guy who was the opposite of the midnight crew leader.
It's good as long as you don't think it's smart, always right, or especially clever. That way lies only darkness.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, it's got some good smart comedy, but it's not superior to, like, good Simpsons or Futurama, and people shouldn't get too pretentious about a show that takes a break from itself to passionately defend use of the R-slur.

Well, the pause to attack people who consider any use of the word retarded an insult was actually a lead up to a joke.
...the R bit was about people complaining when the word is used for its dictionary definition and not as a slur, before becoming a bait-and-switch/hypocrisy joke ('drawing humour from being hypocritical', not 'an attempt at humour which was itself hypocritical'). They didn't defend people using it as a slur, though anyone who somehow thinks Rick is generally a good role model (seriously wtf is with these people) would probably take it as justification.
Perhaps not giving the issue the weight it deserves, but these things are subjective and another point in that very joke was the change in meanings of words over time, e.g. idiot/moron moving from definitions to pure insults.
edit: I left the hypocrisy explanation in from before restructuring to make the original point clearer. Now I'm leaving it in as a vaguely-bitter indirect dig at various other media.

I've been a big fan since the start and I don't blame you at all. It's worth checking out, but even I find myself rolling my eyes and trying to avoid mentions of it, even as a fan. I have the exact same "fucks sake not this show AGAIN".
I still love it when I watch it and again I'd highly recommend watching it, but it's very easy to hate with how much Reddit treats it like the second coming of Christ.
Really, most (if not all) fandoms are just awful. Rick & Morty, Steven Universe, and even My Little Pony are just fine on their own, but the moment you delve into their respective fanbases you feel the sudden urge to put a bullet in your head.
Steven Universe fan theories tend to be pretty nonsensical when it comes to plot (although, theories on character development are a different story), but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea of theories in a children's series.
Remember Gravity Falls? That was a series with a similar demographic, but both its setting and its own writers encouraged the development of theories on where plots were going to go. Theories are not bound to adult shows.
I really like Rick and Morty, but all these people talking about how "smart" it is is really annoying. They're trying to find deep philosophy in a TV show where one of the characters is canonically called Mr. Poopy Butthole. In the words of Rick Sanchez, "Stop digging for hidden layers and just be impressed."
I never "hated" Friends but I think during the 1990s there were some people who had serious "Friends" fatigue because even though they never watched it the whole "Friends" style seemed to dominate network TV in the 1990s for awhile. Network suits kept putting the basic "Friends" formula into the Xerox machine over and over in the hopes that any of the increasingly smudgy, blurry copies would capture any sort of an audience - thus guaranteeing for several seasons that there would be a steady supply of cookie-cutter knock-off sitcoms - most of them short-lived - about single, over-sexed urbanites in their late 20s. They never really stopped, honestly, though the flood did abate after awhile...say around maybe 2002 or 2003 or so.
"What do you want to watch tonight in the 1990s? There's Group of Twentysomethings Who Constantly Yak-yak About Their Sex Lives Sitcom on ABC, Group of Obnoxious Twentysomethings Sitcom on Fox, Fish-Out-of-Water Twentysomethings in the Big City Sitcom on NBC and just for variety's sake, that new Bickering, Mismatched Twentysomethings Sitcom on CBS."
Well, that's not Friends' fault. Hack TV producers are always trying to hastily copy the new hotness. I personally think Friends is just fine, although I admit the laugh track is obnoxious.
Fun fact, it isnโt a laugh track - they filmed episodes in front of a live studio audience, so youโre hearing actual laughter. Plus if you do the laugh-removal treatment to Friends, itโs actually still funny as opposed to BBT which actually uses a laugh track that makes everything horribly awkward when removed
Yeah this is a thing I've noticed lately. I can see why people would dislike it but honestly it's very solid entertainment with genuinely funny bits. Just because the humour isn't particularly referential or "deep" people think it's insipid and "normie". Like...damn let people like what they like, it's harmless

My favorite thing from Futurama was the proof from the one episode where they all switch minds and have to go back. It turns out that there's actually a mathematical proof for that, and it was done specifically for that episode.

it's definitely a smart cartoon in the sense that it deals with some themes, philosophies, and conflicts that are interesting! maybe not usually well-executed but give credit where credit is due

Smart tv is something that makes you genuinely feel intelligent for understanding and figuring out the direction of the plot before they tell you, and then still sometimes (but not all, because then it slides into badly written and lolrandom) manages to throw you through a loop. Futurama was smart tv, Westworld is smart tv, and yes, Rick and Morty is smart tv.
A show that directly aims to educate the viewer on a topic is just educational.

In some aspects I guess but they literally named a character "Mr. Poopy Butthole" and one of the episodes they sing about shitting on the floor for like 5 minutes. Nasty unnecessary garbage like that happens somewhat often in Ricky and Mickey. It's not "smart" and it's one of the things that really detracts from the show for me.

I mean they're pretty open that they just "shit out" (actual way Roiland described it) stuff that they think will work. At least they're not masquerading it as genius writing. Its absurdity is what makes the show so enjoyable and it's just a pillar to Harmon and Roiland's style of comedy, they've been doing this stuff for a long time.

...the R bit was about people complaining when the word is used for its dictionary definition and not as a slur, before becoming a bait-and-switch/hypocrisy joke ('drawing humour from being hypocritical', not 'an attempt at humour which was itself hypocritical'). They didn't defend people using it as a slur, though anyone who somehow thinks Rick is generally a good role model (seriously wtf is with these people) would probably take it as justification.
Perhaps not giving the issue the weight it deserves, but these things are subjective and another point in that very joke was the change in meanings of words over time, e.g. idiot/moron moving from definitions to pure insults.
edit: I left the hypocrisy explanation in from before restructuring to make the original point clearer. Now I'm leaving it in as a vaguely-bitter indirect dig at various other media.

I've been a big fan since the start and I don't blame you at all. It's worth checking out, but even I find myself rolling my eyes and trying to avoid mentions of it, even as a fan. I have the exact same "fucks sake not this show AGAIN".
I still love it when I watch it and again I'd highly recommend watching it, but it's very easy to hate with how much Reddit treats it like the second coming of Christ.

Steven Universe fan theories tend to be pretty nonsensical when it comes to plot (although, theories on character development are a different story), but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea of theories in a children's series.
Remember Gravity Falls? That was a series with a similar demographic, but both its setting and its own writers encouraged the development of theories on where plots were going to go. Theories are not bound to adult shows.

I never "hated" Friends but I think during the 1990s there were some people who had serious "Friends" fatigue because even though they never watched it the whole "Friends" style seemed to dominate network TV in the 1990s for awhile. Network suits kept putting the basic "Friends" formula into the Xerox machine over and over in the hopes that any of the increasingly smudgy, blurry copies would capture any sort of an audience - thus guaranteeing for several seasons that there would be a steady supply of cookie-cutter knock-off sitcoms - most of them short-lived - about single, over-sexed urbanites in their late 20s. They never really stopped, honestly, though the flood did abate after awhile...say around maybe 2002 or 2003 or so.
"What do you want to watch tonight in the 1990s? There's Group of Twentysomethings Who Constantly Yak-yak About Their Sex Lives Sitcom on ABC, Group of Obnoxious Twentysomethings Sitcom on Fox, Fish-Out-of-Water Twentysomethings in the Big City Sitcom on NBC and just for variety's sake, that new Bickering, Mismatched Twentysomethings Sitcom on CBS."

Fun fact, it isnโt a laugh track - they filmed episodes in front of a live studio audience, so youโre hearing actual laughter. Plus if you do the laugh-removal treatment to Friends, itโs actually still funny as opposed to BBT which actually uses a laugh track that makes everything horribly awkward when removed

the writing staff of Futurama held three Ph.D.s, seven masters degrees, and cumulatively had more than 50 years at Harvard. but futurama isn't some kind of super smart show that only smart people can enjoy. It just has bonuses if you do know things.

look fellas i love rick and morty just as much as the next guy... but it's not that smart of a show
it's definitely a smart cartoon in the sense that it deals with some themes, philosophies, and conflicts that are interesting! maybe not usually well-executed but give credit where credit is due
it's still a cartoon about a drunk scientist and a whiny prepubescent boy going on sci-fi adventures that are mostly always based on a movie
why do people act like this show is smarter than it is?? i cant wrap my head around the concept because i just see it for what it is, like i am completely unable to fool myself into seeing the show through their eyes!! i dont get it
it's like saying star trek is a show for genius people only
actually it's exactly in that vein and it's worse because at least star trek tried to be realistic

It's very well written though. I think so at least. They put so much effort into background jokes, and just generally stuff you might miss the first time around. I think that's Dan Harmon, then there's all the zany random stuff from Roiland. I really like that stuff though. Reminds me of all the weird shit he used to say on his podcast.

but the way these idiots present it as if it's actually making them smarter, or that they're so smart because they understand some of the concepts of the show, i mean they're just being pretentious

You're just confusing smart tv for educational tv.
Smart tv is something that makes you genuinely feel intelligent for understanding and figuring out the direction of the plot before they tell you, and then still sometimes (but not all, because then it slides into badly written and lolrandom) manages to throw you through a loop. Futurama was smart tv, Westworld is smart tv, and yes, Rick and Morty is smart tv.
A show that directly aims to educate the viewer on a topic is just educational.

In some aspects I guess but they literally named a character "Mr. Poopy Butthole" and one of the episodes they sing about shitting on the floor for like 5 minutes. Nasty unnecessary garbage like that happens somewhat often in Ricky and Mickey. It's not "smart" and it's one of the things that really detracts from the show for me.
