Forensic Files was always my favorite. I still like it, but it's not nearly as interesting to watch as it used to be.

I still love Law And Order: Special Victims Unit, but I can't bear to watch Bones anymore. Great shows, but Bones became too overdone and dramatic. SVU however is pretty great and has only a few cringey episodes out of hundreds.

It drives me nuts how people like these. Everything seems very artificial, more often than not someone is drumming up drama just to drum up drama. Reality is more "we got a dead guy, add it to the list of things we are investigating".

I get physically nauseous when I see an episode of CSI NY or CSI Miami. Weird thing I used to really like anything murder related ranging from those shows about mass murderers to casual stuff like CSI.

For me somehow it was dr. Phil, it was always on when I came home from school and I don't know why, but I always thought it was interesting. Now I can't stand to even hear his voice!

I was once addicted to shows like Criminal Minds, NCIS and stuff like Forensic Files. I also was glued to watching the Sopranos when it aired. For some reason one day the switch shut itself off and I don't watch that stuff any more. It's been quite a long time since I've watched these shows.

I think the standard for dramas gets increasingly higher each year with new shows from networks such as AMC and HBO or even Netflix and Hulu. Shows like CSI just don't hold up like they used to.

yeah looking back every single episode has the detectives looking for the suspect, they end up at some place the person worked at.
And the person they are questioning always answers so very casually about the suspect while they continue doing their work, "yeah this happens every day" like its nothing to learn their co-worker may have committed a heinous crime.

Also, every single episode, one of them is doing tests on some evidence then another detective comes in and asks "oh you found something", then they get a lecture of how a certain chemical or something else behaves under certain conditions and voila found the answer. You'd think them been seasoned CSI detectives they would already know these basic things.

Once you realize how formulaic TV dramas are, you stop watching them. There are a few that are gems but most are so cliché prone that they're not worth watching.

Law and Order SVU! And Bones. Those were my guilty pleasures.

There are much better shows out these days. If you liked the CSI format check out True Detective (Season 1 is much better but Season 2 has its moments).

Cold Case ftw

I was a huge CSI fan and then I realized I got into a reflexive habit of watching the first ten minutes (or just the pre-credits setup) and then walking away from the TV to do other stuff. Then I'd come back when the show was about 15 minutes from the end so I could see them find the truth and solve the case. I got used to everything between the opening credits and the last 15 minutes being nothing but inconsequential fluff.

Network tv shows are so terrible.

I did the same - loved NCIS, Bones, Castle. They all did the same thing of going on for too long and turning to shite, putting me off them forever. Meanwhile, though Fringe was more sci-fi than crime, it at least ended before they could write out all the characters I like.

At the height of CSI, practically half my graduating class went to get a degree in criminology. About zero of them work in that field.

I watched a shit ton of CSI in middle/high school, because my sister and mom are squeamish, and I wanted to be left Alone with my snacks while doing my homework.

I still love CSI (only the original, never watched any of the spinoffs). The series finale was just awful though. Made me wish the show had been cancelled sooner.

I used to be obsessed with Criminal Minds but then I realized I was always bummed out watching people get tortured and murdered while I ate dinner.

There are just so...many...of them. Twelve different shows, each with three separate spin-off shows. Most of them played straight, but a couple of them with a distinct novelty.

This one solves crimes. This one solves crimes by looking at bones. This one solves crimes by looking at numbers. This one has a quirky nerdy tech girl. This one also has a quirky nerdy tech girl.

Those things are one of my guilty pleasures.

I was obsessed with E.R. and Friends when I was in high school. Now, I haven't seen E.R. since then, but Friends is unwatchable for me. I don't understand how I liked it so much.

I love watching CSI on the plane because you can breeze through five episodes without using your brain whatsoever.

Just finished watching Broadchurch on netflix and that show was great. Its a detective drama, but its one continuous story with loads of character development.

Most girls liked shows like the OC when they were 14-15, but I was OBSSESSED with CSI - I liked the "science" and the subtle romance waaay more than the high-octane drama of those teen shows. I went from Redditor to imgurian for a couple years. Right up until like a year and a half ago when it seemed to be completely overrun with 14-year-old virgins and bronies. So much objectification and spite towards women, too :/ as a woman, it became impossible to enjoy it at all.

Imgur was MADE BY A REDDITOR who was fed up with the lack of reliable image hosting that could be linked on here. It evolved into it's own subculture though. Originally comments weren't even a thing, you wouldn't even see a preview thumbnail for popular images that had been posted. It used to just be "Insert link" and "upload" or whatever the basic functions are.

imgur is being overrun by teenagers posting softcore porn nowadays, tho.

I spent 2 years there before coming to reddit and my god it's turned into a shithole. 50% of posts on the front page, no exaggeration are lists of pornstars, or lists or anime that's already been recommended. It used to be nice but now it's nothing but porn to the point I absolutely cannot use it in public.

Mam I used to spend hours on Imgur too. Not sure why I dropped off, but recently I tried it again. It's only reposts of stuff that were common reposts from years ago when I frequented the site. There's nothing new there

And just so depressing too. It seems like half the articles every day boil down to "6 things to ruin your day and make you feel guilty." And maybe it's always been this way, but it just seems like the quality of the fact checking, interpretation, and writing have all gone downhill. I used to laugh and learn on that site. Now I ignore most articles and half-heartedly skim the rest.

I've pretty much given up on their articles and cherry-pick their YouTube content (mainly Obsessive Pop Culture Disorder and After Hours, although AHs has gone south as well imo). Cracked used to be a place to laugh and learn, now they're either pushing some agenda or just hyper analyzing things to the point that it's not even relevant.

I still enjoy After Hours and the occasional Photoplasty, but Christ almighty did the quality of their columns go downhill.

The site used to be funny, it used to actually make me laugh. Over time, it just devolved into re-hashed, click-baity lists that are more depressing than humorous.
It certainly doesn't help that a lot of the main writers have left like Gladstone and Seanbaby (I miss Popsicle Pete...).

I think they ran out of ideas, it's mostly social opinion garbage now or rehashing old articles. They also pride themselves on exposing "harsh truths" but they're often just outright false and inaccurate.

I love how the site's official description still lists it as a humor site full of "funny articles" but it seems like most of them are now about who's a bad person, who's sexist, who's this, who's that, how terrible this thing is, etc. and no humor in sight.

If it helps any one of the Cracked writers (Adam Todd Brown) has a podcast called Unpopular Opinion. It might be your kind of thing or it might not, who knows? It's a podcast that he does with a random guest or so and they talk about the article that he wrote for the week and what he learned about it. I've listened to it before the decent to clickbait territory. Honestly, it's the only thing I see from Cracked anymore and I used to eat those articles up when I was passing the time.

You're not wrong that Cracked doesn't have the same shine that it used to, but it bugs me when people refer to it as click bait. Click bait websites use a similar phrasing as Cracked headlines, but the phrasing of a headline alone does not indicate click bait. Click bait is an article with a headline promising a particular thing to get you to go to a particular site, attached to an article with misleadingly unrelated content.

Just because a website has headlines formulated to be enticing doesn't necessarily make them click bait - that term has a more specific meaning than that.

6 or 7 years ago, Cracked was my favorite website to visit, there was jokes and good information and I just spent hours a day learning the most random shit, then stopped for a bit when I discovered reddit. Went back a few months ago and it's almost worse than HuffPost.

I still skim the articles, and every once in a while there's something interesting, but the podcast is the best part of the site now.

It took me awhile to tap out from that site, the final straw was when they would have those "21 pictures about monkey butts" article and instead of a slideshow with a couple pics each page it turned into one maybe two per page. Get the fuck outta here with that nonsense.

A lot of the writers got old and/or turned their articles into thinly veiled political statements. Their old articles used be to fun and interesting like "6 crazy battles that changed the world" or "7 reasons why a zombie apocalypse couldn't happen". Then they got old and taken over by SJWs and the articles turned into "9 stressful things about raising a newborn", "6 things they didn't tell you about paying taxes as an self-employed worker" or "8 ways straight white males are evil". Sucked all the fun out of the site.

Yeah, now they are the kings of "let's poorly try to take the fun out of popular movies/shows/trends." Fuck Cracked.com.

I used to love reading Cracked but after while their content felt subjective and didn't hold any real validity behind their arguments. Apart from the Clickbait articles, they have some enjoyable segments. I still listen to their Cracked podcast and am a big fan of the After Hours segment on YouTube but most of the articles on the site are poor satire on pop culture or psychology. In regards to the criticism on Clickbait titles, one of their podcast episodes actually discuss the topic presenting the criticism and effect it has had on media and the Internet. They are aware of there overuse and abundance of click bait articles but defend their use by stating it is the most effective approach psychologically to attract readers to their website. Having a list or countdown draws the reader in to learn more about the subject or topic and similar to a puzzle the reader is more likely to continue reading due to knowing there is an end in sight and having consciousness in what may comes next.

Not to mention SJW bullshit.

I still check it Friday at work when I'm bored. I usually find 3-4 good articles over the last week to read....far cry from 1-2 decent ones a day.

Yep. The only reason I still visit them is because of the Photoshop contests and the "personal experience" columns. The only things that are keeping them from being yet another BuzzFeed clone are After Hours and Photoplasty.

It should be noted that the other players from the "New Yorker with tits" era of comedy publications are now dead or pandering to children, so I'll give Cracked some credit for holding out for so long.

I used to love it, as well. Back in the day, I'd read every article, every day, and enjoy all of it. Now, the Photoplastys are at least worth looking through, but the articles are either about misogyny in video games, or straight up anti-white/man. Just not worth it anymore.

Some of their stuff was gold. Ian Fortey's Poop Sandwich Billy is still one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Cracked was doing great stuff from like 2007-2009. Those Aren't Muskets, particularly Michael Swaim, turned out high quality stuff. Cracked TV was incredible, Agents of Cracked with Dan Obrien was funny too. Another guy was doing those "choose your own drug fueled adventure" type stories too.

YES. I read an article on there today for the first (and oh my god, now last) time in 4-5 years. It was "6 things that happen when you're raped by a celebrity." It was uncomfortable to read about Roman Polanski's victim going through 40 years of the same event being reopened every time she moved forward, with awkward wit behind it.

I read the beginning, skimmed through roughly 75%, and couldn't make it to the end. I can't tell if they were entertaining and got shitty, or if I really didn't understand what was funny when I was younger.

I sure wish they'd stop doing everything except After Hours / OPCD and just focus on those.

Same here, it was great for a casual read and the Top lists were actually pretty entertaining because the self-aware comedic writing just worked. Plus I have nostalgia for Cracked magazines of my youth so this was like a rebirth for my then 20-something self.

Maplestory was my SHIT for like 3 years. I would probably still be playing if they didn't introduce the potential system that made it pay 2 win. I miss the good ol days, when you had to buy a zhelm from a guild, horntail was nearly impossible and Pink Bean was impossible. The days of Tiger and xxxDrayxxx. Man, take me back.

I'm still subscribed to the MapleStory subreddit and someone posted a YouTube link where a KMS player tried to get three lines of ATT% bonus potential on his gear and spent over five grand... And still didn't get it. That, on top of the fact that I've probably wasted about a thousand bucks on Royal faces and hairs makes me never want to go back.

God, some of my most fondly remembered childhood years were spent on that game. One of the best things about MS in it's prime was that it basically forced you to interact with other players and make friends in order to level efficiently and not be bored on the trips between islands or while grinding.

Now they've added so much stuff and spread the population so thin that you can casually solo your way to the cap in a couple weeks andexplore a ton of maps on channel 1 while rarely seeing any other non-afk players. Now, if you don't already have a group of friends that play regularly, the game feels soulless as hell, and having 32 classes to choose from can be pretty overwhelming for people just joining the game.

I haven't checked out the Reboot server yet, so I'm not sure how much of this applies there, but damn, do I miss the days where Windia was still a new server.

4 yrs of my life I'll never get back. I still can't believe I wasted so much time on it. Never again.

I was addicted back when it first came to the US. I stopped shortly after 4th job was finally released. I just stopped logging in. No clue what happened to the guild I was in or the people in it.

I tried it again about a year ago and dude...haha nope. The UI is super cluttered now, there is a billion classes and the old classes felt way different. I got bored and looked up hacks because fuck it why not, botted a new character on Reboot and non-reboot, I got three characters to about 150 before getting bored and quitting again.

It just isn't the same. And back in my first run I probably spent about $1,000 NX on paypal, except I only used maybe half of it and sold the rest for mesos/items.

Tennis is great, tennis kids are huge shitbags

I used to play tennis from 6 to 11 years old where I had to stop because of an accident. I got surgery 3 times in the following 4 years and after that, I had lost my hope to catch up to my old teammates. But what really turned me off tennis back then was the way we were expected to train and play. When I started, a family ran the club, the dad and his two kids along with some other coaches trained us and his wife would take care of food, of us, of keeping everything running. It felt like being part of a big family that shared the love for a sport. We trained and played to have fun, to do something outside of school and to, well, play a sport. When I was 10, or somewhere around that time, I began hearing that a few others who had been in the club for years (adults, mind you, who never took part in tournaments or anything) disliked this easy-going atmosphere we had and demanded we play more tournaments, train more often, do anything to win trophies. The family who ran the club fought against that, but eventually quit because these motherfuckers pretty much bullied them into it (it's worth noting that at the time, the old guy was in his mid-sixties). We trained and trained, even though our new coach was never satisfied with our performance, and we lost almost every round in the tournaments. If we had kept playing for the fun of it, and to take it easy and get better with no pressure, I could've picked up my racket right after I had revovered from my last surgery.

Good news, though: I'm starting college next week, and will join a club in my new town then.

You should take up pickleball - the community is very welcoming! We get a lot of tennis refugees.

I strongly encourage you to pick up a racquet again. I've been playing for over 14 or 15 years now. Once you get past the 'youth' stage in tennis, and enter the world of adults in your local club, you'll meet a whole new group of people who play a sport to get away from their busy life, to make friends, and spend time with people who they share a hobby with. You'll meet people who enjoy the sport, not people who are only focused on winning.

You'll meet people who have recently started, and you'll meet people who have been playing for half their life. And almost every single one of them will be just as friendly as the next person. You'll find many, many doubles partners, you'll form bonds and friendships. And you will fall in love with tennis again, once you get over the hurdle of frustration when you notice you can't hit a ball for shit anymore.

How do you stab someone in the back when it is basically a single player sport unless you completely focused on doubles?...

That was me with soccer. I played on one team from age 8-18. My dad was the coach. I knew some of those girls for 10 years. Some more cause my dad recruited from the rec league I was in. It's really fucking rough when your dad is the coach and you suck. The team became really elite and I just wasn't on par with a lot of the girls skills. It was obvious I wouldn't be able to stay on the team if it wasn't for my dad. I went to those stupid games and just rode left bench for a very long time. When I was a kid I loved it, but as I grew older it was just the bane of my existence

If you have any interest at all to still play, play social, it's great. Sure there's still some people who are way to into it, but a majority are there just to play a fun sport causally, drink some beer and talk some shit.

Same feeling here with baseball. The hate between teamates is horrible, and downright stupid. That's why I now do Cross Country.

My tennis coach was an ex-marine, so we never had the clique problem. It was a pretty great experience.

Hopefully it's something you can pick back up! I've had similar experiences, and after a year+ and a buffer hobby/sport, it becomes fun again!

It was the same way for me in dance. I danced from the time I was 4 until I was a junior in high school. I can remember exactly two friends I made doing it during that time. I was a pretty great tap dancer, but since I didn't do lyrical or modern and was only okay at jazz, and wasn't skinny and blonde and leggy, and on top of all this was (am) a huge introvert...I never made friends. But I kept doing it because tap dancing itself made it worth it. But by senior year I was too busy with school and finally quit.

I danced for a few years in college too but had the same issue making friends in the group (did make a few, but they were also in band with me, which I think is why they stuck), and when they passed me up for tap choreography and instead filled the docket with lyrical/modern (out of I think 25 numbers, only 2-3 that year were tap) I quit and focused on marching band instead.

I still miss dancing, and wish I had time to find a place to do it, but I'm sure the same thing would just happen again.

Sadly, that happens a lot when you get a group of girls together for anything. I encourage you to go back, join an adult league or something. There will still be childish people, can't ever escape that, but the majority of them will be mature adults.

Same. I never played in college but in high school I can't tell you how many people would throw the biggest fits if a shot or serve didn't land in. Like really kid you are a grown man in High school. Don't scream for your mom.

Really. My school was the opposite. We were all from different cliques but once we were on the court we were like on big family. I had the best time playing tennis and I still go out and play with people who played in high school.

I feel similar about baseball. It's amazing how someone that has such a small time in your life can completely ruin something.

Your comment reminds me of an article somewhere after the whole Sharapova-Meldonium thing (that I wish I can find now, gah), basically saying how it's not a surprise that none of the other women players had much to say/support her. Apparently the female tennis world is like what you said, very competitive/clique-y and it's not a world where you can make friends.

Just to follow up on so many comments encouraging me to play again, here's how I moved on. I still don't play tennis or really want to, but my burnout lead to great things. Senior year of college, I needed another sport to unwind after my stressful practices with my catty teammates, so my sister encouraged me to start riding my bike. I ended up in a local bike shop having my janky secondhand bike repaired, where one of the managers encouraged me to join a women's development team they were forming. In the years after college, I became a competitive cyclist across a few disciplines. Nearly a decade later, I'm still on an all women's team (no cliques on this team!). That chance conversation in that local bike shop lead to me meeting my husband (he works in the bike industry). I'm sidelined at the moment because of a medical issue, but I am so happy that hating something I used to love lead me down this path. All the same, those snooty girls can go fuck themselves.

Tennis is a completely awesome spectator sport. I'm glad I never had it ruined for me by knowing the shit behind the scenes.

I played tennis though college and I definitely know what you mean. A lot of kids are raised without the "team camaraderie" mentality so they don't know how to be a team. It's an individual sport so it's easy to lose sight of what's important if you're on a team.

That's how I feel about swimming. I was in the sport from 5 to 20 years old. I was captain of my HS team and captain for 2 years of my college team. I quit due to a shoulder injury and other reasons, but I'm only now realizing just how miserable those girls made me for the last two years. I haven't swam in nearly 6 months, I'm glad I don't have the added stress of "gotta make them like me so they don't make my life miserable."

Well technically I still do but it's for other reasons now so...yay?

In their defense, real high school is actually filled with people who look to be no older than 12. They hit that one on the mark.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! I thought it was just me getting older, but I still enjoy watching Wizards of Waverly Place and Lizzie McGuire and older shows like that, but the new stuff is terrible.

I used to love Hannah Montana (well, the last season or two not so much) and The Suite Life with the occasional Wizards of Waverly Place or The Emperors New School.

I had a similar experience to Disney and Nickelodeon about 10 years ago. I think you and a lot of other people are/were experiencing an aging out of those channel's demographics.

I remember watching Disney Channel all the time, between that and Nickelodeon, those were my go-tos. I remember watching and loving Bug Juice, The Famous Jett Jackon, Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, Kim Possible, That's So Raven, Phil of the Future. But right around 2005/2006 (around 14 to 15), a lot of the new shows were just not appealing to me like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, even spin-off shows of my previous favorites like The Suite Life on Deck and Cory in the House were just... I don't know, not appealing or funny at all. Probably because their demographic are pre-teens/tweens and I was a teenager getting into other channels more like Comedy Central, ESPN, G4, Spike, ect.

I find it interesting how young these actors are nowadays, or at least how young they look. When I was little, they always used actors in their 20s and sometimes older to play the high school kid roles. For instance, in Grease, the youngest actor in the main cast is Dinah Manoff, who played Marty Maraschino. She was 19 at the time.

I remember getting to high school and feeling so small and self-conscious because the people that were supposed my age on tv were full grown adults. Same for freshman year of university.

Wow, I can really relate to this. My sister still watches it, because of 'nostalgia', but in my opinion Disney Channel should die already. Also, nowadays kids are behaving differently, and in the mindset that they are one of the characters in a Disney Channel sitcom.

I actually blocked the channel when we had cable. Only channel ever blocked.

When we cut the cable I noticed my daughter progressively mimicking bratty cool kid behaviour again. I checked her Netflix viewing history. All Disney shows, we told her no more unless my husband or I were in the room to monitor subject matter and discuss situational content. Behaviour improved. Summer came we relaxed the rule thinking maturity. NOPE. Within 2 weeks she started acting like a vapid shallow smart ass. Back to previous rules about Disney channel viewership.

I was watching this show about high lvl cosplayers once, and these people go to a convention out of town (they had this amazing cosplay) and are in the cosplay competition . And theres this group of Dr. Who fans (all girls) who are cosplaying all of the Drs from that point (also in the comp), and they are just awful to these people. Saying all kinds of horrible stuff. It was disgusting

I lost interest when Moffat took over

Loved the first season with Eccleston. Then watched two seasons after with Tennant. By the 4th season (Series 4) I realized they were pandering to the audience. Nothing wrong with a bit of pandering but I felt like it lost the whole point of what made Doctor Who a nice break from mainstream TV.

The fans became ridiculous and just wanted too much out of that show.

I loved Doctor Who, right up to the point I realised they commercialised every "cool" thing that was said/done. Completely 100% turned me off forever.

After working the last convention I'm pretty sure Jack Barrowman hates the fan base too by how he looked at the end of night one. Never seen a celebrity drop the smile so quick after going behind the curtain.

I grew up on Doctor Who. I raised my kids on Doctor Who. But that amazing feeling the show gave me left with Tennant and Davies and never returned.

I know others have enjoyed the post-Tennant era, and I'm glad for them. I don't mean to suggest they're wrong. I'm just saying the magic was over for me personally.

I made the mistake of saying I wasn't such a fan of the new Doctor, (The current one) fucking tirades from people about it! "What? He's the best yet!" "Well don't watch it then! You won't be missed!" Doesn't matter that I've been watching it since I was 5, I suddenly became this enemy. Besides...Tom Baker was always the best.

I got into that show around the time I had made a Tumblr and was like, "oh cool, there's Doctor Who blogs on here" and followed them. Big mistake.

I'm a fan, and I agree. I attend conventions here and there and I do my best to be a counterpoint to the many, many outspoken, overly-opinionated fans that flood the internet.

Look, I have my list of favorite episodes/stories and those may not be the same as someone else's. And that's okay. But what I won't do shit all over a storyline/character/writer/plot that I don't like. Instead, I just view it and move along and wait for the next storyline. Maybe someone else really liked that episode/plot as much as I liked another one.

Yep same here. The die hard crowd is cringey and annoying. I have three awesome doctor who t-shirts I don't wear in public anymore because I didn't want anyone to associate me with them or for them to think I was one of them. Is it shallow... Yeah but they are honestly so annoying. I've been a fan since my aunt introduced me to the old shows as a kid and I still love it. But I'll never openly admit it.

Oh, definitely. I only met other fans when I was a bit older and not as obsessed. A few were genuinely nice people, but some were downright turds. Avoid fans.

I was obsessed when I was a kid, had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the show. I still watch it because I feel like 12 year old me wouldn't forgive me if I didn't.

That said the last two seasons were good.

I liked it until matt Smith left. I don't know what it is about it, I like capaldi, I don't like Coleman much. But it just didn't... It wasn't really FUN anymore.

This. I played Neopets in the late 90's early 2000's. I remember there were aspects of the game that you could customize using HTML. So, while in 4-7 grade, I taught myself HTML. Later that knowledge would involve into other programming languages, and now I am a software engineer. I'm honestly giving Neopets huge credit for this major aspect of my life.

I've never read about another soul who played Neopets, other than myself. Lost my password a couple years back so I couldn't sign back in, it was a sad day for me. I think all my pets are probably dead
