Several years ago I woke up in bed next to my (now ex) girlfriend and we had a conversation in fluent French. I got up and got in the shower, and as the water started running I realized, neither of us spoke French. When I got out I asked her about it. She remembered it happening but was as confused as I was. I can't even remember what we talked about because I don't fucking speak French. Brains are weird.

Awesome story. One question though: if you don't speak Chinese, how so you know you and everyone else was speaking fluent Chinese in the dream? Maybe it was just gobbledegook? You thought you were saying "That'll be 100 yuan for the red snapper" when in fact you were saying "Today is Mexico, and your sister is a fire hydrant"

past life memory? I have had some very involved dreams that are quite similar and that's what I figure they are.

this is a beautiful story. true or not, possible or not, we should all be so lucky as to walk a day in another persons shoes.

Can you remember any shop names, street names or landmarks from that dream? Do you remember any Chinese?

I had a similar dream:

It started when I was walking in an outside market in what appeared to be the middle east; I browsed from stall to stall buying various items and food. The whole time speaking fluent Arabic, and I was way shorter than I was in real life. It was strange.

It likely wasn't really Chinese, the human brain is very good at making up patterns like language. Neat dream, though.

Do you recall any more details? Did you ever try to pinpoint where/when that might have been?

Could be a memory of a past life. After researching past lives and if they are real or not. I can say I believe this to be more real than anything else I have heard on the after life. There is a lot of evidence to make it real. If you spend years researching it, its enough to make you say, ok this is more than likely real in some cases. Maybe all people don't get more lives tho. They ran out of quarters.

I've had dreams fluent in French before. It's very weird. Like watching a movie without subtitles, but you're in it.

A year or so back, I had a really messed up dream. I ended up writing a short story out of it, but it really bugged me for a while.

I walked into my old high school with a binder. Everything was going to plan. I had the people chained to the lockers and all the doors, except for the main entrance, were chained shut.

I walk upstairs and find my cousin has somehow broken free. He's screaming and swearing at me, but I don't know why. Next thing I know, he's charging at me and I sidestep him, grab him by the collar of his shirt and the seat of his pants and fling out the third story window. I lean out and watch him free fall and barely miss the canopy and smack into the sidewalk below with a crack of his bones. I watch him for a few minutes and then he begins to crawl away.

I catch a glimpse of myself in the broken window and I can see myself. I'm dressed like me, the hair is mine, the posture, the beard. Except, no matter how close I get to my reflection, I can't see my eyes.

Then one of my lackeys runs towards me and tells me that "she is close." I can feel myself start to salivate and I tell him to get things ready.

Moments later, I'm peering through the windows and I see her drive up. She walks in through the front doors and I spring my trap, enclosing her in a large cell.

I start to get overly excited and run up to the bars. I start to taunt her and laugh. Then, out of nowhere, she releases a blast of a greenish-white light at me.

Time passes slowly, I'm looking over everyone, but I can't speak. They ho through my binder and in it are clippings of old articles of bombings, shootings and other violent acts. Notes in my handwriting with plans of what to do next.

Then I woke up trying to understand what the hell just happened.

Adapt this into a screenplay. Two men on opposite sides of the world dream they're one another. Weird identity crises ensue.

How do you know it was really Chinese if you can't speak it?

even though you dont speak mandrian, in the dream did you know what was being said to you and what you were saying?

This... I've been trying to explain this thing that has happened to me several times in the past few years. I'll be falling asleep and remembering my day, and as I'm drifting off to sleep, I start remembering a completely different day from someone other than me. I'll usually wake up startled when it dawns on me that these aren't my memories, and in a few minutes, the memories fade as I try to grasp what I just experienced. Only a few stuck with me partially. An example:

I'm a university professor, preparing an exam about the cardiovascular system, and I'm walking to my car on campus, going over a list of details in my head of what I need to bring to campus the next day, while thinking about certain students, remembering exactly where I live and the house I share with my wife etc. It was a perfectly normal, vivid sense of memories, even mundane and completely accepted as my own. Then I literally gasped and bolted up startled as I returned to the real me. Another time, I was a truck driver in New York, worried about deliveries getting through traffic. Others just evaporated before I could retain them.

I wonder if this is some glitch in our Jungian collective unconsciousness.

If you are actually fluent you can just imagine actual chinese.

If you know little to none - you can make up enough to sound reasonable but not enough to dissect a single phrase and make sure it is real.

I've had several dreams similar to that. Sometimes I live alternate lives, and other times I'm still me, but I meet someone, become their friend and know them for many years in the dream world. Once I met someone and got to love them as much as I love my family members or my close friends. I honestly had a sense of mourning when I woke up because I knew I wouldn't see him again.

I have had a similar experience when I was about 19. In my dream I was heavily pregant and out shopping. I went into Labour and dreamt the whole thing. The pain, the nurses and medical staff, my midwife all round me were all so real. I remember the weight of my new born in my arms after giving birth the way I felt sore and tired but ultimately happy afterwards. And to this day its as real as anything else in my life.... Except for the fact I woke up to my single childless life.

You know that is one of those things that really make me wonder about things like time and persistence. What if every morning we woke up as a random person somewhere on the Earth complete with every aspect of them that makes them them. We then go through and live a day in their life. The next morning, we start the process anew as some other random person.

I have had weird dreams like that where I'll be fluent in Japanese or Korean. I'll wake up and try to remember the dream then realize I don't know what I was saying.

I've had similar dreams, and it's super disorienting! I don't know what they are - maybe glimpses into an alternate universe? Or projections of our mind of possible lives? A past life? Who knows.

I often wonder about this kind of thing. Like where does your brain make up this stuff. Probably pieces of language you pulled from movies here and there.. I've dreamed things that I couldn't imagine in real life. Stranded on a planet and figured out how to make my spaceship work again. And it was all very technical stuff that I would never be able to do in real life.

I'm sometimes astounded by how clever the subconscious mind can be. I had a dream that was like an episode of South Park, complete with original characters, an overarching story line, and clever one-liners and visual gags. Or like wandering through temples full of intricately carved details. I could not imagine this shit consciously.

I've had something like this happen to me, and it scared me a lot. I went to sleep and "woke up" halfway through the day in someone else's life. My memories were this woman's in what I think was one of the Virginias, and I was unpacking and decorating a house I just moved into with my boyfriend or fiance or something like that. I woke up in the real life, and it was like being physically jerked away from something.

A few months later, I went to sleep and woke up in the same "world". It was obviously later in this woman's life by a few months. I remember talking with my/her partner and things were going well for a few hours when out of nowhere he looks straight at me and asks "Who the hell are you?" I was woken up with a jerk again, and I haven't had the dream since.

The thing is, both times it happened on an equinox, spring and fall, of the same year. I was living in Japan at the time, and when I looked up weather and sunset information for where I thought this woman lived, it coincided with what I experienced in the dream. I've also had issues with night terrors, sleep paralysis, and very vivid nightmares on and off since I was a kid. This was completely different from any of that.

I tried seeing if I could find any information on the people, but all I remembered was the man's first name and a rough estimation of where they moved or where they moved from which didn't give me much to go on. I'm probably crazy for even looking, but it was all so real that I still wonder if there wasn't something to it.

What if the twist is that you are actually transporting between two lives? And when you two meet each other, the universe explodes?

As someone who has been to a fish market in China, the smoking thing is really true. I can imagine some of the fishmongers going about their day like this.

I've had a dream wherein it was like a TV screen. There were cartoon dinosaurs in black and white (think Woody's Roundup from Toy Story 2) and speaking (the same kind of effortless) fluent Spanish to each other. It makes me think the brain picks up on a lot more than it lets on.

I've noticed quite a few glitches throughout my life, a lot of them in the last few since since I've moved to NYC. I'm 31 years old and moved to the city in January of '11. Since then I started studying meditation and various forms of mysticism (e.g. Hermeticism, Magick and things along those lines)

As I began getting deeper into my head and exploring altered states I started noticing weird occurrences such as lights being off in a room as I pass through it and the. Switched on when I came back through moments later, while being alone in the apartment, same with TV and also candles relighting themselves after being extinguished. I am aware that all of those experiences could be accounted for by means of electrical issues or my own lack of attention to a detail such as sitting on the remote for the tv and being unaware it happened or not blowing the candle out completely. I try to be skeptical of all of these things because I have no proof but my own experience and memory. However I also have pretty regular lucid dreams and sleep paralysis and on one occasion this past 11 of November(2013) I had a dream experience I will never forget. I work for a company managing food carts and the night before (11/10/13) we took the cart to be inspected in Maspeth, Queens I dreamt that I was driving through Williamsburg, Brooklyn and I was headed to our garage to store the cart, which is attached to a ball hitch on the bumper of a van, down a particularly bumpy patch of rode (which really exists), the cart came unhitched and rolled away down the street and around a corner and I jumped out of van and chased it on foot and then woke up. The following morning, we prepare to take the cart to the inspection and I tell my boss about my dream and he says he will drive. After the inspection, he is driving back from Queens to Williamsburg and we pull up to an intersection and I noticed that our cart was gone. My boss was driving too fast around a corner, cart hit a bump and flew off the van and slammed into a parked car. I couldn't believe it and my boss never said anything to me about the dream. Definitely the most glitchy experience of my life. EDIT: Pardon any errors or Rubin sentences, I'm writing this quickly on my phone before running out the door.

Every once in a while i have a dream in which people is talking to me in x language which i know, and i reply to them, I'm sorry i don't speak that language!

The weird thing is, i know what they are saying, because its me saying it, its my brain! but in my dream i can't remember a single word in that language!

My dad has epilepsy and says that he'll experience this when he doesn't take his meds. Sort of like a fugue state. He went to Aspen on a business trip to design a ski lodge and he forgot his meds at home. He was supposed to do a big presentation but he never showed up. His coworkers looked for him for hours until they finally found him walking down the highway in the snow, 8 miles from their hotel. Apparently he had completely forgot who he was, where he was, and why he was there. He figured if he just started walking he could piece things together and figure things out. He snapped out of it when he saw the familiar faces of his coworkers.

I'm currently living in canada. My native language is German but I'm quite fluent in English. At least once a week while Im having a conversation with someone, my brainy decides to forget that I'm supposed to be speaking English and I catch myself in the middle of a German word. Now, that itself is quite normal. The problem is that now increasingly often as I listen to someone, I get confused that they are speaking German. It only lasts for a second or two, but in that time everything they say i perceive as German and think about it In German. It freaks me out because the only times I'm speaking or writing in German usually is when I'm talking to my family.

That's happened to me a few times. It's dizzying. I had no idea it was a thing!

TIL : jamais vu

I just had something similar happen. I was having a discussion with my brother about unlock codes on our phones(Samsung dot codes). As I was trying to explain the reasoning of my code I attempted to enter it and everything went blank. I absolutely for the life of me could not figure out how to unlock my phone, which I do a hundred times a day, every day. It lasted for about a minute or two and was kind of upsetting, thinking your brain has completely lost that information was a scary feeling. I put the phone down took a breath and was hoping muscle memory would work, sure enough without thinking much about the actual code and just letting my thumb do the work I figured it out. My only reasoning to this event was that I did this so often my brain no longer stored that info into a portion of memory I could recall, so when I actually tried to recall it there was nothing, and thinking about the fact I was nothing and I'm losing my mind also didn't help my muscle memory to enter the code. I have no science to back up this theory but this is more comforting than worrying about Alzheimer's or dementia.

That's actually a pretty common cognitive impairment caused by being chronically sleep deprived.

How old are you? This might be Alzheimer's or some sort of brain defect if it happens again.

My buddy had this happen to him. We were driving to Flagstaff from Phoenix and just randomly he just looked "off". He looked very uncomfortable and confused. I asked him what was going on and he said he had no clue where we were or what was going on.

I ended up convincing him to go make sure he didn't have a stroke or something. We were talking about that day a few hours ago. He still gets pissed because he has no fucking idea why or what triggered his brain shutting down.

I've never heard of this before. I know this was posted like 23 days ago but I just wanted to thank you. I though I was crazy. I frequently get this so I should tell a doctor about it. But it always happens when I'm talking to someone mid conversation, where I am starring at them, I'm listening intently, and what ever they say sounds like a completely different language. And I know logically it is English, I just have no clue what they said.

It's happened more then once with different people. Hasn't happened in awhile but yeah....

I'd never heard of Jamais Vu but it sounds a lot like something that happened to my mum while driving. We were on a familiar motorway chatting and I think she had to turn off at some point when she suddenly sais "I've forgotten how to drive". She honestly forgot what she was supposed to be doing with her legs for about 15 seconds. I couldn't drive so was of no help. Coulda just been early sign of alzheimers though.

I had this happen once. I had to call my ex to ask why I was going to a certain appointment, what I should say and where it was. To this day I wonder if I had stroke.

This happened to me once. I was walking through the cafeteria at college and all of a sudden just didn't know where I was, who I was, what I was doing. I just stood still for 15 seconds freaking out then it went back to normal...

I have tears in my right now, thinking about, and reliving the sensation. Never knew what jamais vu was until reading this, but know I've had it...bad. The experience left me huddled in a ball on my bed, hyperventilating, experiencing the first real anxiety attack I've ever had. I dont really get anxiety attacks ever, unless I wake up from being blacked out, but even then, its nowhere as intense as this random occurrence, but I tried explaining it to the people around me, (my mother and father) as deja vu, but not quite, because I've never lived it, but it's happening again. The gut sinking feeling that something. not sure what, but something bad, real bad, was about to happen.

Background. No history or signs or symptoms of any mental disease, personally or as far as I know genetically. Sometimes your brain just wigs out.

edit: I wish to further explain that during the whole experience I felt like I was dreaming. I felt detached from reality, as if I had taken a xanax or something, hazy semi-blurred peripheral vision and very low immediate comprehension of what was actually occurring around me. Though xanax would do the opposite of make me freak out, and I was completely sober.

I used to have jamais vu on a daily basis, as part of my seizures. It really is very alarming and disorienting.

That, coupled with Alice-in-Wonderland syndrome and one reality-obliterating hallucination, prepared me well for future psychedelic experiences.

I get deja vu a lot. And it's really, really clear that I have pre-seen the experience I'm going through. Very odd.

I get that all the time when I am driving! For a few instants I don't know how to drive! It's so scary!

This sounds a bit like derealisation as well, which can be a coping mechanism for stressful situations.

This only happened to me once a few years ago but I've been assuming brain tumor ever since.

In middle school we had a library on the top floor. It had entrances on both ends. Normally I would always enter one specific entrance because my Reading classes were always on one side and I never went there for any other classes. This went on for over two years. Then one day I entered from the opposite doors. The whole place was completely different like I'd never been there before. Nothing was located where it used to be. I asked people when they rearranged everything and why but just got weird looks. A few days later I entered from the usual doors and found everything familiar and normal again. Seemed odd they'd put everything back. A few weeks later I entered from the opposite doors and once again found everything rearranged.

I get that for a few seconds the day after I've smoked a joint, particularly if the day after is a day im working.

I dont have any cool deja vu or jamais vu stories but you mention this reminded me of tripping on acid back in college. I had a moment of "jamais vu" where my whole reality cracked in half as if it were glass and there crawled a crack in the glass from top to bottom. I remember fear at that one instant like no fear ever before. Man I miss acid.

Happens all the time driving. Daydream ends, then I realize I don't know where I am for a few seconds, then recognize something. Dangerous because the sudden panic affects driving and spatial awareness. Probably will get Alzheimer's... only 31 and this has happened at least since I started driving.

Thanks for the link! I've had this happen, too. Several times, now that I think about it. Weirder still, much as you described it, when I'm driving. Nothing scarier than being behind the wheel at 50+ mph and suddenly having no idea why you're even in your car, let alone where you are or headed.

Acouple months ago I think I experienced jamais vu too. Mine was forgeting all together how to tie my shoes. It was so weird, and got to the point where I looked up a video on how to tie them. I felt so stupid afterwards

I've had small bouts of this before. I would we up and think "Wtf is this thing in my bed?" and it's my cat, it's like the first time I've ever seen a cat when it happens.

Had this happen once, left college to go to work at my retail job. 15 minute drive to get there. I pull into the parking lot and sat there thinking, where am I and what the fuck just happened? I could not remember the drive at all...not one memory. It was as if I teleported to work. Really freaked me out the whole day.

Going off of part of the definition provided in your link, I once spent about an hour trying to figure out how to spell "was." It was an eerie experience to say the least. I kept typing it up in Word different ways, all ending with that red squiggly line.

Ive had this before! Quite a few times actually. The most notable was when I was driving to my boyfriends home (of 3 years) so I obviously had driven there hundreds of times when suddenly I forgot everything. Where I was. Who my boyfriend was. Where I was going. Where did I come from. I was struck with such confusion and fear. When I finally came to which seriously felt like 5 min later (but was probably 30 seconds) I called my bf and explained what just happened to me. We thought I had a brain tumor or something wrong with my head for quite awhile after that. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I remember multiple times being stressed out of my mind, still not finished with my homework after an all-nighter, working on it 15 minutes before it is due in the library before school starts (which is pretty damn early in the morning). The library tends to get rowdy before school starts, which causes that characteristic buzz of multiple conversations happening at once.

So I'm typing, minding my own business, and suddenly my ears sort of "tune into" (I don't know how else to describe this) one voice or one conversation, and although they are speaking in English (my native language and the only language I know), I hear them speaking as if I do not know English. I can hear the words objectively and attach no meaning to them, as if I were listening to someone speak a language that I don't know. I'll recognize the occasional very commonly-used word, and that's all.

When I realize I'm doing this, it takes concentration to maintain, but it feels almost as if I'm shifting gears into a lowered state of consciousness, like going back in time to before I knew English.

I never made the connection between sleep deprivation/anxiety/stress and this phenomenon, but it would make sense if I was experiencing jamais vu. The weird part is that it didn't really freak me out until now. I just thought it was cool.

Brief loss of memory can be a symptom of something else.

I've had similar experience like this also but I think it had to do with lack of sleep. I use to have to wake up at 3am every Monday morning to catch a 5am flight. The airport was 1 hour away and while driving to the airport I would become confused if I was going in the right direction on the interstate. I needed to go south bound but sometimes I would think "did I take north bound???"

Ive expended jamais vu a couple times in my life. But deja vu has become a common thing for me. Ill fall asleep, dream something and ill see the whole thing clearly, scenery, people, down to the clothes and words that are spot on. But I never remember the dream when I wake up, our if I do it's vivid. Maybe from that day a week or two or three pass and then it happens and it all hits me. It's always one scene of that dream I remember. Something like a trigger word and action and it all comes back. And every time it happens I say deja vu and anyone I'm with looks at me and says the same thing, I wish I could experience it once.

I've learned to live with this... ability, since about 5th grade, and it still finds ways to surprise me

I used to deliver pizzas in my hometown and had this occur a few times on some super busy nights. Very stressful considering I live in a small town and couldn't figure out where I was going for a short period of time. Thankfully it hasn't happened since I stopped delivering pizza.

I didn't know there was a name for this. It happened to me once in my sophomore year of high school. I had been in the building for a year, so I obviously knew the place. One morning I completely blanked on where the bathroom was. I didn't wander around looking for it, I just stood there completely dumbfounded on which way to go. I actually had to ask my friend who was standing next to me. Freaked me out for a while.

I never realized this was a thing. It happens to me occasionally in social interactions. For just a fraction of a moment, I'll have a feeling like I have no idea who my husband or best friend is, mid-conversation... it's so very unsettling!!

I was sitting in my room playing a game when I forgot Damn near everything. Where I was, who I was. I had a fit like a 5 year old lost in a grocery store. I started crying (mind you this was about a year ago) until my dad came in my room. He asked me what was wrong and I just looked at him for a minute, stopped crying and said nothing. I literally forgot why I was crying as soon as I saw something familiar.

Deja vu a couple of times, that's it? I get deja vu at least every couple of months, and it usually comes in spurts where it hapens a few times over a few days or a week. Last about 30 seconds or so, I usually try to maintain the feeling as long as possible but it disappears like it never happened. So strange - some kind of neurological fart.

I've had jamais vu as well, though less frequently. It's usually happened in reference to thinking about a word and how it just doesn't seem to sound right, or I think it's spelled incorrectly, even when it isn't. Happened more as a kid than an adult.

This happened to me all the time, though much milder cases. I'd have couple of things to do and suddently I have no idea what I was doing and what I was supposed to do next and it would take sometimes several minutes to regain it. This was in a phase of my life where I was often very sleep deprived. I also had daytime hallucinations (stuff like things moving, and shadows morphing into spiders - only in my outer field of vision though).
Get your daily sleep, folks. And if you can't, you probably need to change some things in your life.

There's also a condition called temporary global amnesia and it happens to business travellers more than anything. Its in one of the worst case scenario books and explains how to recover should you experience it. Remembering that of course is another issue....

It seems like the more I learn about psych conditions, the more likely one is to happen to me.

Just an FYI - jamais vu can be a symptom if seizure activity in your brain. If you've ever had any other "funny spells" like this before you may want to get yourself checked out by a neurologist.

I have had that happen to me once when on a leisure drive, I didn't forget where I was but I suddenly experienced my city as if I was visiting it for the first time. It was really strange as I've lived here over 20 years but it was astonishing to see everything in a different perspective. Even my appartment was unknown to me until the effect dissipated a few mins after I can back home. I knew where it was and grossly what it was but it was like I was in another country!

This happens when I'm riding stoned.

Jamais vu is nasty, especially in retrospect once you snap back to it and fully grasp how much you just closed behind a door monumentally. I woke up in the hospital after a terrible migraine, and the first thing I remember seeing when I opened my eyes was this creepy old man sitting at the end of my bed. I remember freaking out trying to figure out why my family or friends weren't there; just this guy who immediately came over to my side and acted like family.

Took me a minute to snap to it and realize that it was my dad... I didn't recognize him or his voice for about a minute, I pieced it together through context and then it all came rushing back to me.

I have TBI and this has happened to me before. You are right. It may not last but for a couple of seconds but it is still terrifying.

I'm pretty sure this is indicative of mini-strokes. I'm not a doctor, but you might want to bring this up next time you see one.

I suffer from mild anxiety, and I used to get this a lot when I was younger. I had a whole bunch of triggers that would usually combine into a jamais vu episode, and it always happened in the shower. For years I was scared to shower at night (it never happened in the morning when I was tired).

This has happened to me, actually I think most students can relate to it, but sometimes it gets a little too scary. During exams (speaking from India, here they get really serious) crazy things happen. Once I had a friend across the hall, the entire hall, trying to signal me discreetly. So I turned my head, glancing around to see if any of the 3 invigilators were looking (they're really strict, you can get kicked out, taken to principal etc.). It was safe, so I asked him what. He wrote on a slip of paper, and I kid you not -

"What is 3x4 ? " He was taking all that risk for that. My jaw dropped, later he told me he wasn't asking those sitting nearby for fear of being called a retard. Things like these happen to me too, having to write down, painstakingly, 10x9, and sometimes I even have to divide 2-digit numbers (think 64) by 2 on paper. For someone who considers himself very good at maths, it's chilling when attacks like these hit. Anyway, onwards.

During the English exam, I had just 10 minutes left to dash off an essay on some really unfamiliar topic. So I was casting around for ideas, I decided to write out a brief sketch in pencil, just to have a rough frame of what I was going to write. So then suddenly I was about to write "corruption" and forgot it's spelling! I mean, it's not that big a deal, so I started framing it, then I realized I couldn't write "corrupt" or even "then", "today" or "good morning". Sweating and frantic fist clenching ensued. Fortunately, I'm a touch typist (typing without looking at the keyboard keys) so I simply mimed typing these in air and was able to get through somehow. But man, I came close to a panic attack.

Someone below mentioned that muscle memory can help counter these happenings, and I think it's true.

Oh and I'm 17 and this happened a year back, so we were in 11th grade.

I wonder if there's something about driving in particular that makes this experience more likely to happen than in other settings. The only time I've experienced anything like this has been while driving.

Huh. So that's what It's called. I've been experiencing jamais vu probably 1-3 times a year since I was young.

It's never with anything crazy, just super mundane things. One event had to do with the whole family and a specific table red and white checked cloth. I think it was a birthday.

It is weird that most of my deja vu happened when I was younger too. The strangest time was when a friend of mine took me bowling in a place I had never been, and at one point I felt like I had already done this before. It hit me so hard I almost freaked out in public. Very odd sensation.

Oh man, this happened once to me. I was driving in a car with my GF (I wasn't driving!) and her relatives. All of a sudden I realise I have no clue where I am and who these people are. Sudden panic attack. Lasted for a few seconds and then I "came back". Crazy.

I always called it Vu Ja De.

Something similar has happened to me before. I believe it has to do with my internal compass. You see there are several Targets (dept store) in my area and I have moved several times in the last 10 years. I got used to the layout of one and then moved closer to another one. The other Target has a similar layout but not exactly the same. The orientation of the store is different, so instead of walking in from the south you walk in from the east. I swear for the first year it would fuck with my mind so hard to the point of when I would go in I would kind of get excited like it was an alternate reality trip. Is there a name or condition for this?

Oh man I could NOT cope with that. I think I'd just vomit everywhere and quit. And then quit again just to be safe.

What if you're just stuck in the Time Loop and it WAS you walking by that room on night one, and it WAS you in the room cleaning - just on a different night.

Your whole life is a giant time loop stuck repeating in the same hotel, and eventually you start going crazy and try to get your past self out of the hotel before you do something dangerous and then it turns out that the older version of you is absolutely crazy and trying to stop the middle version of you from getting young you out of a hotel. I mean, that's just my opinion (but hey, it would make an awesome movie!)

So; I was helping my brother move some furniture and set pieces out of his shop and out to the truck. The building is big and old as f all, and the maintenance guy who had lived at the place had passed away a couple of month before.

So we're using one of the elevators on the front of the building since it has access right to a door. this is gonna take a number of trips to get everything downstairs but we've done this before.

But this one night the damn elevator decides to take me up to the top floor. the one it isnt ever supposed to go to without the key.

and it shuts down. locking me in.

so building security gets a call, the damn thing isnt responding. I force the doors open and get out. it's stupid dark up there and I swear someone or something is watching me.

The building had seen better days; as much as i can see from my cell phone light it looks like the floor is littered in trash and bird crap. (probably bats too) - i hightailed for the stairs and got the hell out of there.

elevator didnt work for another 3-4 days. (and we had to move the rest of the stuff through a really complicated passage) I never rode it again.

I giggled at the part, "Hello, this Draven."

This creeped me the fuck out, because I worked security at an old condo a couple years ago and this pretty much described it to a T (except I think the highest floor was 20). In one of the towers we had a crazy old lady who would go on rants about the little people operating the machines (in the mechanical rooms) to harass her and accused us of working with them. To this day I have no idea who leaked the information about our unholy alliance.

But yeah, I hated the mechanical rooms, they just gave me the creeps. Always felt like I was being watched.

I've had a couple of dreams which have been so vivid, I swore they were real... it might be this.

Similar experience, posted it in the glitch sub before. I vividly remember this girl at my school dying in a car accident, drove over the side of an exit ramp that was having construction done on it, and the reason she didn't realize it is because she was texting. I remember my sister and her friends going to the funeral(She was in my sister's grade), we lived in a small town and I remember everybody talking about it for weeks. Fast forward almost ten years, I've told my fiancee the story enough times she knows the girls name by heart, mainly to try to convince her not to text while driving. My fiancee is from the other side of the country, and I never go back to my hometown, so she doesn't know any of the people I went to high school with personally. One day she's looking at my sister's Facebook page (I don't have one, so I'm oblivious to what's on people's pages) and says "Hey isn't this that girl who died?" and I come over to check it out, turns out she's alive, married to an old friend of mine, with a kid, and no one remembers the car accident/funeral. I'm still so confused.

Mine is similar. In college some acquaintances asked me to go watch some ice races. I decided to take a nap, woke up, went groggily to ice race. Only vaguely remember being there, still not sure if I actually went or just dreamed that I went.

I have had weird instances where I remember something thats seems real... but I know it is not just because of some basic memory for the past few days.

Like for example I will distinctly remember recently visiting the top of Empire State Building... but I know for sure I have not been in New York City in 2 months, so it must be a dream. But the memory is still pretty convincing. The only reason I can disprove it is because I know I would remember taking the train to the city, or standing in line, or buying tickets... etc. Also I have at least a vague idea of everything I have done the past week.

I had the most perplexing moment one day, when I was at school, and the father of the family I was staying with suddenly stood in the doorframe of the classroom. He said, [mother's] dead, just passed away this morning. I told my classmates that I had to go, packed up, and completely stunned, I followed him to the car, and we got home in silence. There she was, right in her usual chair in the kitchen. Imagine my surprise and relief when I realised that the figure sitting in the chair was actually breathing, and weeping. It was her dad who had died, and I misheard "dad" for "dead". Not that I didn't regret the passing of her dad, but I had hardly known him.

This happened as well, except it was about William Hung and Miyazaki. My best friend told me this. She also told me that the moon was made out of the pieces of earth that got blasted out, and that the mass is exactly the same of what's "missing" from the earth. I don't know what to believe.

This happened to me, only it didn't last as long. My grandfather had died, but because I was busy in school and under a lot of pressure, my family decided not to tell me (I'm very close to my grandfather and consider him my dad.) I didn't find out until I came home for the holidays weeks later, missing the funeral. I was incensed and so hurt, and I'd gone to bed crying and angry and at my mom and refused to speak to her.

I woke up and immediately started crying again, and still angry, called my grandparents' house to yell at my grandma over how she could do something like that (I have never, EVER raised my voice to my grandparents. I was angrier than I've ever been in my life before or since.) My grandad answered the phone. I realized I just had a really intense, realistic dream, and play it off the best I could. I talked to him for as long as he'd let me (he's not a big phone talker), still refused to speak to my grandma until I processed it all, and had to take a while to regroup myself.

Probably a dream you had. They can implant memories.

I think this is called confabulation. It's a really weird phenomenon!

Instead of freaking out, calm yourself knowing that memories are made as we need them. Don't think of it as a binary, but a gradient true-false. Then think of all the times you have been in an argument with a SO about some trivial detail "we already watched that movie" etc.

We do this all the time, but it is rarely given significance and hence forgotten.

Things we dream and daydream about are also incorporated into our recollection if it fills the spot needed to conclude a narrative we already anticipated.

Memories are tools for a biological organism that isn't perfect but a product of gradual change.

I had one of these recently. I was so sure a good family friend of ours, who just happens to be our mayor, was dead. I remember my aunt coming into the house and telling me. Vividly.

But then it was like…I just seemed to forget about it.

Until, that is, few days later we were at the cemetery (my dad died a few years back) and, I suddenly remembered it, said to my mom, "so when's (the mayor) funeral? and why didn't the town do anything for him?" and she replied, "what are you talking about? he's not dead." and i said so fucking confused, "yeah he is. aunt (the website says not to post names) called the other day. he died. " and my mom was like, "that's not funny. he did not die." but i was so sure he was. i even called my aunt and everything she had no idea what i was talking about.

Saw him a few days later. Alive and well. And he said to me, "So I heard I died?" Because of course my family thought it was funny in the end and told him. I was so embarrassed.

I'm still so sure that day happened though.

It is not your mind. DARPA can implant a chip to your brain (nano size) and they can rewrite/change/delete your memories.

Something similar has happened to me. I've had my radar detector for a while now, and always leave it plugged in since I do a lot of highway driving but if my phone is about to die I'll unplug my radar and instead use the only cigarette lighter to charge my phone. Sometimes I'll do this, and I'll forget to plug my radar detector back in. I'll get this huge urge that I need to slow down, and sure enough I'll get to the next clearing and there will be a cop.

I was leaving the oilfield one night around 11:30 pm driving pretty fast on an old road. I remember driving by an old gas station listening to dubstep to try and stay awake, then I came to in some Indians driveway, I didn't feel like I woke up either. I turned around and got back on the road when I relized that I had drove for almost 15 miles down a curvy road.. I still don't know how I pulled that off.. It happened in Randalett UT near Skinwalker ranch.

Holy shit. I don't want to say where I live, but there's an excellent restaurant near me called Red Barn. At least, I think it is excellent. A friend and I tried to go there a couple months ago and we simply couldn't find it. My friend had been there that same week and we both used different navigation apps. We didn't get suprise slurpees but it was still really weird.

You said the dog was sleeping when you left. The door accidentally slammed, which might have messed up the circuitry causing the lights to go off. Now your dog wakes up and is startled by the fact that everything is dark and you're not in the room. Then he gets defensive as he hears you trying to smash the door, however as you keep trying to bust the door down - it gets louder and louder which scares the dog, causing it to whimper and eventually stop making noise and move to the furthest part of the room.

Your dog was asleep, he didn't hear you go out but he heard when the wind slammed the door, which subsequently jammed, freaking him out because you were gone.

The shed, probably being old, likely had faulty or degraded wiring. When the door slammed it probably fucked something up.

So your dog, waking to a loud noise in the dark without his master begins barking.

You are rattling the door trying to get back in, he doesn't know it's you so he barks louder and growls trying to scare off whatever scaring him.

When you begin bashing the door it's just too much for him, he can't seem to frighten off whatever it is he thinks is frightening him and becomes frightened enough to flee, when you finally unstuck the door, to a distant corner in the hopes that this unknown predator won't notice him.

When you finally find your flashlight, pointing it at him, it initially blinds him.

So now he's frightened and shaking huddled cowering in a corner with his eyes shut.

As his eyes adjust, and he calms down slightly, he notices it's you, or that you're there, and seeks comfort from his favorite biped.
