For me, unless they're directly facing the bobber in a straight line, they ignore it. It also has to be a ways in front of their face. So it's more like
Just make it animated and add in the part where the fish turns in the completely opposite direction as soon as you cast your line, then swims so far into the middle of the pond/river area that your line can't reach it, and it'll be perfect.
I feel like the fishing system in this game is way worse than in NL, but all my friends keep telling me it's about the same. But I never came close to flinging my 3DS out the window because I had to be pixel perfect with my casts. I recall being able to let the bobber sit until the fish got closer to it and would then notice it and start nibbling. But then again, NL also didn't have tools breaking so I wasn't going red in the face with frustration when I caught my 80th seabass and had my 3rd rod snap in half within 15 minutes of play.
Man fishing used to be so fun in the old animal crossing. Now Iโm catching 10 seabassโ and crafting fishing rods every 5 minutes. I hope they fix the whole fishing system and tool system too.
Agreed. At the very least, make the gold tools unbreakable. It's a good goal to work towards, and anyone who gets the gold rod, etc. has seriously put the work in. Then they need to adjust the durability of everything else.
If I have to have like 10 spare fishing rods in my bag while I'm throwing bait trying to catch specific fish, the system is bad and they should feel bad.
There were silver ores (and all sorts of colored gems) in New Leaf, which you could use to re-color/customize furniture.
Iron ore did not exist in New Leaf.
Silver ore and gems do not appear in New Horizons (yet? ever?) with the exception of gold ore, however it seems the purpose has changed (from customizing furniture to now building tools).
I had meant since golden ore was the only ore to upgrade tools, that means its a third tier tool and is unlikely to be awesomely durable (if there were silver tools, Iโd expect gold tools to be even better!)
Please tell me thereโs a tool upgrade that makes durability a non issue. I donโt even care if itโs 100 uses, I just need something SUSTAINABLE!!!!1!!!1
Dismal equipment durability systems seem to be Nintendo's thing now based on BotW and ACNH. Greatly looking forward to the next Mario game in which I assume we'll have to replace Mario's worn-out shoes every 50 or so jumps.
Yeah I totally get it existing in games like minecraft, etc. that exist for micromanaging and stuff but AC games are the anti-thesis of micromanaging and all it accomplishes in this game is adding artificial length to the game by forcing people to either keep farming tree branches or whatever or just going, "eff it" and buying like 10 of a tool from nook's cranny.
What got me today was my iron watering can breaking. Seriously? I just want to water my god damned flowers in peace animal crossing.
That made me think about the ladder and the perch, I hope they didn't put a durability on them, because it isn't going to be fun getting stuck on a side of a river that you can't cross unless you have the perch.
Edit: After playing for a couple of days with them I know for a fact that they don't break, but when you are starting the game and you see that the other tools are breaking after a couple of uses, it can be a fear that the ladder and the vaulting pole could break anytime too.
I assume for if you drop your ladder or vaulting pole somewhere and someone steals it or something. I've played multiplayer games enough to know how this works. Sure, it might be an edge case, but it can totally happen.
Also probably in case you do something dumb like trap yourself with furniture while someone is visiting, or if something just glitches and you get stuck. Or maybe if you terraform just wrong? Dunno. There's a lot of potential things that could go wrong.
im pretty dissapointed that there is basicaly zero improvements to the fishing mechanics at all. like you cant even aim your cast or adjust power, you can barely cast across a river. you cant even jerk your rod around to move the hook towards the fish at all.
Yeah the fish in this game donโt see shit. Back on the GameCube I could cast a line from the other side of the island and those little buggers would see it.
IMO the better fish have a narrower cone. It seems it has to be mostly in front of the better fish for them to go after it.

Some of the fish definitely have quirks to them. Rocks seem to be able to see almost anything, red snappers I feel have extra narrow fields of view even feel the better knifejaw has a wider view.
I think it's gotten worse too. I still have my muscle memory from fishing in new leaf, and it feels like new horizon fish are just even more blind. That's frustrating enough, but then the fishing pole breaks immediately after you spend a full minute trying to get the fish. 9_9
I can second this. Especially when you get to harder fish. Thank goodness for my mods that allow me to catch fish at all. They just auto-catch it for me. I would never be able to catch most fish without that. I'd just give up, probably.

I know it's a joke guys but they use unreal engine 4 for the game engine. And I also use unreal engine for making games and the promblem they made when making the fish is that the moved the ai cone to far in front for the fish size levels under 4. So this cone isn't accurate(I know it's a joke). Also this will be mixed during the Easter update I bet so look forward for that lol.
I feel like fishing really highlights just how antiquated and clumsy the controls of ACNH feel... I could tolerate it on the 3DS because of hardware limitations, but there is literally no reason for controls to be so clunky on the Switch.
We really should be able to aim where we are casting instead of trying to find the exact right spot to stand and fiddle with facing the right direction with overly twitch movements.
The worst part is the ground works of making aiming a fishing pole already exist with the big net, it wouldnโt be that hard for them to let you hold action button and aim where you want to cast.

I know it's a joke guys but they use unreal engine 4 for the game engine. And I also use unreal engine for making games and the promblem they made when making the fish is that the moved the ai cone to far in front for the fish size levels under 4. So this cone isn't accurate(I know it's a joke). Also this will be mixed during the Easter update I bet so look forward for that lol.

I feel like fishing really highlights just how antiquated and clumsy the controls of ACNH feel... I could tolerate it on the 3DS because of hardware limitations, but there is literally no reason for controls to be so clunky on the Switch.
We really should be able to aim where we are casting instead of trying to find the exact right spot to stand and fiddle with facing the right direction with overly twitch movements.
The worst part is the ground works of making aiming a fishing pole already exist with the big net, it wouldnโt be that hard for them to let you hold action button and aim where you want to cast.
