According to xbox the issue has now been identified: https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-live-status
There appears to be a current outage when trying to access the game or website which can result in the following errors:
- Eroded Badlands
- Drowned
- Cauldron
- Launcher asking the user to authenticate again
- Windows error code 0x80040005
