Account reactivation should be streamlined
I've shared this opinion for awhile now, just haven't considered this medium to forward it.
As a fan of 'cool usernames' here on Minecraft, I often monitor what events occur in the community. In this time, I've noticed several cases where an account has been hacked (usually via database breach) and the hacker has proceeded with these following steps (generally):
Step 1: Secure the account, reset SQs & information.
Step 2: Change the username, either to the previous or something stupid (oftentimes it's a tag showing who did the offense)
Step 3: Deactivate the account.
Step 3 is my focus here, as this disables the original owner from reverting the username change in time for the original account owner to take it back.
Oftentimes money is involved too, as ideal usernames can fetch upwards of $1,000.
While me telling you previous offenses would have no gain, since the account's current owners obtained them legitimately and don't deserve to lose the usernames, there's one case I'm hoping to prevent on it's way currently.
I've been in contact with the owner of the name 'Adult', a similar process was performed on his account and in less than 2 days the username drops to the public, allowing anyone to claim it. He has all original information tied to the account, only that it's been deactivated so that the hacker can ensure he can't reclaim the username.
The enabling process is complicated, as it usually requires over a month of back-and-forth with Mojang support to verify account ownership, and due to backlogs I can't name a single case where this was achieved in time to save the owner's username.
Now onto my suggestion. Reactivation should be easier, I don't believe it should reach the attention of support at all, and should be an automatic process to prove ownership and to re-enable sooner.
I'm not familiar with the logistics of this, but any method to prevent what I described above would be beyond fantastic, and vastly appreciated within the Minecraft community.
If you're capable of helping at all with 'Adult', I'd suggest extending the block period (When a name is changed, it is reserved for 31 days to allow the owner to claim it back) so that the owner may have time to reactivate their account.
An alternate option is re-activating the account for the owner (Account info visible here: https://namemc.com/profile/burthalou.2) or simply moving the username 'Adult' back onto the account before someone is capable of stealing it from them permanently.
It's a stretch to hope you'll be able to help with Adult's scenario, but perhaps a feature could be introduced to prevent this in the future.
Thank you for your attention!
