huge square chunks completely gone = falling out of world

my wife and i play together frequently and this problem has now consumed several maps and is destroying hours of work as we try to do it in survival... one day we have a huge castle we are trying to develop and find our end world portal. the next day half our village replaced with a hole that you can build across and act like the end world were you fall out of the world and die.. it sucks
