Minecon cape code wont "redeem"

My friend attended Minecon 2013, and he was looking through his email when he stumbled across his Minecon 2013 Cape activation code. Since he does not play the game anymore, he sent me the code to attach to my account.

Lets cut to the chase...
When I click on the activation link, it asks for my Minecraft login (I searched up procedures for activating capes, and so far everything was running smoothly.) However, after I logged in, instead of going to the page where it has a "redeem code" button, it just skips straight to the profile management page where you can change your skin.

I know it is just a couple of pixels on your characters back, however I would really have liked it if it worked. thanks for taking the time to read this
