I can't redeem my 2016 cape

My friend got me this code from minecon 2016. I opened the URL but when I clicked on the redeem button it pops up with " Something went wrong when trying to redeem your cape!
Invalid code." May or is there a way I can be sent a new cape code that I can redeem and that is fully working?
