java display error trying to launch game.
Put the summary of the bug you're having here
What I expected to happen and Describe what I thought should happen here:
Self explanatory.
Describe what happened here:
Game crashes while trying to launch.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Game was running fine until I ran into an issue that I could not install several gnome based applications. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS standard installation with an added gnome legacy desktop. After researching this problem, I found that I was dealing with a KDE/GNOME verified issue #1451728(kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error). I didn't have this issue when running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the same desktop configuration. Although I have been running Ubuntu desktop for over a decade and am somewhat Linux Literate, this Ubuntu internal conflict of desktop dependencies has been going on for over 2 years, since the release of 15.04, and well beyond a knowledgeable layman OS user such as me. I am being verbose here on the history of the issue I am dealing with in order to give you an understanding that will be needed in order to look into this problem for me and other users that may run into this same problem. This is an Ubuntu issue but it is one that injects itself into being a Java issue and thus affecting any graphic intensive Java application like Minecraft.
I read the 2 year long thread on this issue on kubuntu-ppa bug reports that purports to have solved this issue, promised to have the fix in the 16.04 release which didn't happen and still has no released update that fixes this issue. What I found there is a potential fix that was supported by a second response to the thread so I tried it and it fixed the issue of installing the Gimp graphic editor and seemed to remove the conflict that was at issue.
sudo dpkg -r unity-scope-gdrive
sudo dpkg -r account-plugin-google
sudo apt-get -f install
This morning, when I tried to run Minecraft, is when this crash started happening. I don't know what it will take to reverse the removal of unity-scope-gdrive and account-plugin-google to get back where I was before installing Gimp. I am asking you guys for help and if you might have a solution to get the game working without having to re-install or modify my OS.
My e-mail on sleepyvalley.net is no longer working for me so if you respond back to me, could you use thomas.strike@gmail.com?
Thanks for your consideration in this matter.
