Passive mobs such as villagers and horses disappearing

My horses and villagers keep disappearing. I've tried every trick I can think of.  I've made homes for them,  I've renamed them,  I've traded with them,  I've kept bell near them but they still keep disappearing. Please fix this problem. This never used to happen in the past...
