GF cannot play realms with me because of Microsoft account settings

My GF is unable to join my world or play any worlds in multiplayer and it says its because of how "the Microsoft account is set up". specifically pertaining to multiplayer games and clubs need to be allowed but we have checked this several times and it is not the issue. i have seen no one else have this issue and i am clueless on how to solve it. Please help!
