Dragon Egg Disappeared

After we defeated the end dragon, the realm host moved the dragon egg to the top floor of our villager hall. Only the host and myself had even looked at it after it was placed. He updated the realm to 1.17 last week and it wasn't until last night that we noticed the egg was missing when he went to show it to another player. 

Steps to Reproduce:

[Step 1] Place the dragon egg in the overworld
[Step 2] Update to 1.17
[Step 3] Egg disappeared

Observed Results:

Egg is missing

Expected Results:

Egg should be where it was placed

Notes:

I'm attaching a screenshot of where the egg was placed prior to updating. I have also checked the surrounding areas in hoping to find it in case it got teleported for some reason. We do not have a backup save of the realm. We have cumulatively amassed over 2,000hrs in this realm already and are all finding this discouraging. Besides player influence, is there any other way our egg would have moved on its own? Is there any way to remedy this without starting completely over?
