''Dead'' area on server, can't mine, farm or place torches there

We're on a direct connection server (multiplayer). The issue is that there is a small area in the server just about 2 x 2 chunks in which most of us cannot mine, farm, place torches, etc. Doors placed there just bug out in the sense that there are two bugged parts appearing. Removing the door is not possible for me, it just reappears instantly. Mobs walk through there and the counter mentions when I have placed a torch, but it disappears when placed on the ground. If I try to mine or shovel something there, the block instantly reappears. At first it looks like a part of the server is severely lagging, but the rest of the server is working fine and smooth. We tried relogging and restarting our respective computers and the server owner did a hard reset of the environment.

I don't know whether to pick this up with the host or this way cause I don't know the way the network works. I know normal realms are hosted by Mojang and perhaps we need to pick this up with the actual host, but I don't know if this is game-code related or host-related.
