Xbox One won’t let me play on realms

I am playing on the Xbox One. Whenever I try to join the realm that I created myself, it says that there is a pending realms update and I need to wait 48 hours. However, my friend, who is on the windows 10 edition, can join the realm just fine. I am confused.
