Op commands not working

My friend started a Realm and made me an Op by clicking the crown in the settings. Yet when I try to use commands it always says "Unknown or incomplete command" My friend (the realm owner) Op'ed de-op-ed and Op'ed me several times to no resolve. This is really annoying and inconvient as My friend (the owner) can't be on all the time to moderate.
