problem connecting to a realm

Today I tried connecting to one of my friend's realms and it would take forever to connect. So I re-installed the Minecraft application and try again but I still have the same problem. Not sure what is going on. I've never had this problem before I looked up solutions and my wifi was fine everything was okay and nothing worked.
