Comparators do not detect signal from items passing through hoppers

I use this exact design in singleplayer most recent version 1.16.1, and it works fine, but with realms, the comparator does not receive the signal.
I saw a bug report for this in 1.14 but for java edition, it works for me in java edition, but not for realms???
