Harvesting a crop twice glitch

When collecting crops ex: wheat, potatoes, sugar cane, you have to harvest the crop twice.

Using sugar cane as the example, harvesting the crop I break the 2nd/ 3rd cane, however when I LT to break it, it wont drop the item and I have to LT the crop again.
I've notice that it happens whether I'm moving or not I occasionally have to break the "Block" twice .
