World Disappeared

I went to log into my friend's realm that we've been playing on recently to try and make some progress on my own and when I loaded the realm it started the game over as if it was a completely new game. The map is unfamiliar to me and I have none of my items or my levels. When we last logged off we were in the Nether so I'm thinking this could be because of the update.
