Diamond weapons in inventory suddenly vanish.

While playing in my realm, my son said that his enchanted diamond sword was missing from his inventory and then the next day my enchanted diamond ax disappeared from my inventory and then my diamond sword disappeared. This is a big loss when playing in survival with no cheaters turned on. thanks for any help.
