In a realm on Minecraft PE I can't see the chat messages of anybody else,

In a realm on Minecraft PE I can't see the chat messages of anybody else, they can see mine but I can't see theirs, i can however see when people join, leave and die. This has persisted for a couple of months and is a real pain.
