Barrels Disappearing

Three barrels completely disappeared from the right side of the 3x3 stack to make it a 2x3 stack now. Had items like a totem, food, building blocks, nether rack other stuff like that. I went upstairs to sleep after checking each barrel for enchanted books or tools. I went back downstairs and three barrels were gone from the right side, they were close to a chunk border but not on the chunk border. This has me scratching my head as A. No one was in my house, and B. I didn't think any kind of tile entitie could just disappear like that.
