Realms Server Lag

I purchased a realm a couple of weeks ago and it was fine since not many people were on it, but as time went on, there would consistently be at least 5 people on at a time and this is when there were spaces of time where the entities in the game would freeze; this happens to everybody on the realm. These freezes occur every few minutes for 5-30 seconds at a time. Everyone in the world notices it as well. I don't know what the inside issue is and was hoping I could get some feedback on this problem. Thank you.
