Minecraft Realm says someone is whitelisted. Not appearing on their computer.

My friend added me to his realm, and I typed in my username myself. My skin appeared, so theoretically I would have been whitelisted. I went on Minecraft and the realm did not appear. We both restarted the game and no result. Help
