sniffer not digging

I have 2 sniffers in our realm and no matter what i do they are not digging. I have moved them to different areas, replaced the blocks with different kinds and even let them free roam and nothing. The only thing that someone else suggested that they had the same issue is that this realm has the add on mini blocks and mob heads. what can i do?
