Unable to access friend's realm

I (crezey21) am unable to view or join my friend's (mandood36#1976) Minecraft realm, neither from in-game or in the launcher. In the launcher, I just get "Realms request failed. This could be caused by general network issues or a system failure. Please check your network and try again." and in-game, I can't even see a list of realms.

 

Edit: Noticed a new message appear at the bottom of the launcher
