New animals not spawning

I have a realm subscription with two other users and we play on the second world. I noticed that once the animals are killed in any area for food, no new animals are spawned afterwards. I've tried staying in one area for longer to see if it's a chunk update problem but it looks like it doesn't make any new animals spawn near me.
