Cannot connect to some realms. ekm: Realms service error (500/500) Internal Service Error

When trying to connect to my realm or a friend's realm I first get the message "ekm: Realms service error (500/500) Internal Server Error." When trying again I get the connecting to realm screen indefinitely. I can connect to a different friend's realm without issue. It happens if I try to connect from the realms menu in game or directly from the launcher. When I select my realm and click configure I get an error screen with "Realms service error (500/500) Internal Server Error."
